WOW!! That's some impressive numbers for a stock bottom end (crank & rods). I have told people that they were wasting their money buying a forged crank & rods unless they are going to spin the engine up into the high 7000+ range or go with a stroker kit but ya can stroke a 350 with a 400 crank, there are other options also. But I don't know anything.😉😉😃

@@Ratridez I helped a friend build a 383 stroker using stock cast crank & rods from a 400. New .030 pistons, aggressive cam, aftermarket aluminum heads. single plain high rise intake, 2" carb spacer & a 750 cfm double pumper carb. It was a beast & with 8" street tires it was a handful. It was in a '78 Malibu 2 door. I know the HP & torque were way up there but the engine never seen a dyno. I can't say that one is stronger than the other, both short blocks make a good foundation for making power. Fords are to but they just cost a little more for parts.😎

I think it was hot rod or car craft that years ago built a 360 with a tunnel ram and w2 heads that achieved 600 horse and a ton of torque. So of course I have a ported w2 360 on the stand I want to try. I did come across a eagle forged crank in 3.58 stock stroke, brc made the pistons years ago for me, and a solid roller a little bigger .650-.660 lift, only a single carb intake though, but a Holley Strip dominator and have Victor Jr to try. Your setup inspires me. Nice job.

That's def. in the ballpark. We built a similar 360 with some spare parts about eight years ago, including mildly ported Performer RPM heads, 1.6 Probe rockers, a leftover Comp roller cam meant for a boosted application (114 LSA and .620 lift), and a Performer RPM dual-plane intake. It made 529 hp and 474 pound-feet. Stock bottom end with 10.5:1 compression. Nothing fancy, just good breathing.

Pretty awesome of you to give away your "secrets" like that. Some don't mind sharing, some do. Are these heads similar to a new pair of Edelbrocks I see? They use custom rockers like this one and flow like 300 cfm or close to it on the intake side. That's crazy for a non-hemi. I just rebuilt my 5.9 magnum with kb 232. I can already tell a little difference even though I kept everything else the same. I should've did this the first time around. I won't be making your power, however. :)

Thanks for watching. Umm if your referring to the edelbrock victor heads, those heads flow way more and are serious! But they require a lot of work to make right, I have only seen a couple of builds on the internet yawing them. These trick flows are way better than the edelbrock RPMs tho.

I think I've only seen them here. The massive flow comes with the massive price tag plus having to use the special rockers that are almost 1,000. So around 4,500 for assembled heads and rockers, don't know about everything else for the valve train. I'd never buy them but if I was building an all out racer they may be the ticket. I really don't know if someone is taking the RPM heads and just doing a lot of porting. Always neat to look at what's available. I just put OOTB EQ heads on my engine since that's all that was needed. Great heads.

I have a 360 LA I’m putting in my truck, was gonna save up for a hemi but my dad convinced me to do the 360 since it was a package deal with a truck he bought off a friend that he had laying around, it has a .455 Mopar cam, some beefier valve springs, and a 650 double pump carb, only issue is that since it’s a LA and not a magnum we have to make whole new mounts because my truck came with a magnum v6. Hoping it’ll do around 300hp/320tq to the wheels, it’s a 89 dakota, later in the future when I can perfect the truck I’ll bulletproof the engine to take a 6-71 blower if I can find a kit for it

    Hello from Buffalo New York.
I’m currently on my way to something similar to what you built.
    360 hypertectic pistons.
Compression will be slightly over 10-1. Full engine bottom end balance. Rods ,pistons, crank all balanced. I’m going with magnum heads. Cleaned up , new valves springs , not sure about the guides
My engine builder knows that stuff.
My questions are what lifter goes use?
    Push rod?
I’m going with a comp cams hydraulic flat tapper.
Also, I wanted to use an old school tunnel ram with single 4 bbl.
but I was told it won’t work because of intake bolts arrangement.
That sucks. I was also told there are ways to make the intake work.
    What do you think ?
I hope my engine rocks out the horsepower as much as your does.
    It’s going in 74 Duster w built 904.
So we will see I guess.

Hey there. Sounds like a nice build but yes magnum engines use different intakes. I would suggest ditching the magnum heads and getting the trick flows. Then you can use a tunnel ram (LA bolt pattern). You won’t get anywhere near 500 hp with those heads anyway. You will prob be like 420 hp or 450 with a solid roller cam.
