Someone in my office forced a book on me saying "It's was amazing & I know how you love to read. You'll love this." And maybe it was a superb historical/mystery/romance, but it was not for me. And I usually have books in mind (a kind of mental tbr). Anyway, 2 weeks later I returned the book to her desk with a note saying that I really enjoyed it & thanked her for lending it to me. Luckily she is the type of person who once she starts talking, she goes on & on. I was able to do a lot of nodding, and 'oh yeah-ing' to get throught our "discussion of the book". I'm a monster.

Here's my philosophy on loaning books: You don't loan out things you're not okay with never seeing again. I say this both from the never seeing a book again side and the never gave a book back side. Life happens, in weird and wonderful and often chaotic ways. (Honestly, goes for more than books.)
Speaking as someone who stole some library books once upon a time, it really comes down to where you live, how religious your parents/family/friends are, and if you have any personal disposable income. At least this was the case for me and anyone else I've talked to who also stole a library book or two in their day.

So I looked for it, my eyes went up... and landed on the last sentence, which is like the most revealing sentence ever. Yeah.

  • @loldebiteloldebite1607

Fun anecdote. I often stay awake to read a bit more, but I usually stop before 2 am, 4 am tops if it's THAT good or if I'm THAT BAD into it but I always stop, because I only want to continue if I feel like the good is GREAT, but at the same time reading such a great book while completely exhausted feels like a waste, so I always end up putting the book down. Always except once. The only book I pulled an all-nighter to finish was actually 1984. SPOILERS AHEAD.
I used to read until especially far into the night, back then (often 2 am), because I was quite depressed and reading has always been my #1 coping mechanism. But that night, after the fateful moment where they go and seek out O'brien to join the rebellion, I felt like I had to continue... And after they got arrested I simply could not put the book down. Because I was too anxious at first, then because I was too scared of dreaming about what I'd just read. I ended up curled up in bed, crying. Then I wasted time until I felt calm enough to sleep. Bittersweet memory for sure !...
But in the end, if my experience means anything I guess it's actually kind of a good sign if you've never pulled a reading all-nighter yourself ? :D

I've never broken a spine on purpose that I know of, but I always carefully break the cover (Nearly all my books are paperbacks) front and back along the glue border/embossed line thingy (for lack of better words)

I possess a book that was borrowed from a library by my dad in 1970 and never returned.
Also, my mom is a retired librarian and she read everything from her library, or at least skimmed it.

omg I like to know the bare minimum about the books before I read them, so I buy loads of books without knowing what their about 😂
ok I guess something a little juicy is that I actually found Zenith entertaining. It was garbage, but I had fun reading it (*loses all credibility on BookTube*)

Yay, my questions about throwing books across the room and leaving them on the shelves for years got answered. "Toss a book in frustration, so badly it's written, so badly it's written, whoaoo"

The only time I threw a book across the room was when I finished Insurgent. I didn't like the Divergent books all that much anyways, but that ending felt like I was robbed of the time and energy I put into reading them. Still mad about it and it's been like 6 years or something haha.
And about lying about having read a book. I never read the book that we needed to analyze for our A-levels aside from the bits and pieces we discussed in class. I ended up getting the best mark in the final exams in my whole grade anyways. It was the biggest achievement for my lazy ass ever.

Ive always read required reading for school however this year the High school I go to is having the underclassmen read "The Clockwork Orange" and I-
Just why? That's to much for some adults what makes you think hormonal teens are gonna receive it well?

most of my books are digital , because they don't sell english books in my country nor do they translate them , so I cannot "throw " my book out of frustration because that would mean throwing my phone/laptop , even though I was tempted on so many occasions . ( I really love your earings btw

I always try to finish all books I start, at some point. I often have 3 to 5 books I have started but not finished because of various reasons. But there is one book I absolutely couldn't finish and lied about finishing it. In High school we were supposed to read The Sorrows of Young Werther. No one finished the book, I think I was the one that read it the furthest, I nearly finished it (mostly skimming at the end stage) but I just couldn't bring myself to read the last 20 to 30 pages. It was so boring to read, I only remember that Werther was in love with a married woman and writing to her husband that he was in love, nothing happend in all the pages of the book. The Sorrows of Young Werther is just not a book anyone should read at school. We all hated it and told the teacher who liked the book because of reasons.

I am the absolute worst at reading the last page of a book when I’m still early in the beginning. Usually it just confuses me, I see names that haven’t been introduced or just a very different plot. But often I’m left shocked at the end😂 usually I forget about it until I get there though

I was totally jumpimg over POVs in Game of Thrones. The plots were so far away from each other, that I knew I won't overlook anything important. So I often read next Dany or Arya chapters, instead of whatever was supposed to be next.
I was going back tough eventually.

I’ve actually bought the second or third book in a series before the first one multiple times, but it’s always been by accident. Sometimes books don’t clearly label that it’s a part of a series, so then I get home to start reading it, realize it’s not book 1, scream in frustration, and then go back out to get book 1. This has happened more times than I’d like to admit 😂

To clarify on the Mistborn review spoiler thing, I think you might have given away something that was meant to be a big reveal about Vin. As it wasn’t in the summery some people would have thought you were intentionally spoiling that reveal. I had already read it by the time I watched so I didn’t mind but I hope that clears things up for you. Love this video btw
