- I've always called EU4 the King of all PDX Grand Strategy games... and after all these years, I think it's more true than ever! Playing as Mewar: a Hindu kingdom located in Western India.

New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place! - Hry
This summer is EU4's TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY. How many hours do you have in it? I'm still a noob at 1,400.
How has it been *ten* years?!
2176 hrs
I racked up about 3600 hours between 2016 and mid 2021. (I still suck at it though lol)
It's my shame at 3700. I thought I had quit for good until I found the missions expanded mod.
Thats 58 full days
While taking all provinces you should have taken the ducats as well. Also you can give orders to your vassals
taking ducats creates a longer truce
He annexed them entirely tho
Spawn a 2 siege pips general as first general on first try without alt-f4.
Quill: WOW He's CRAP!
Ludi: cries in Ludi.
Aristocratic is usually a good first idea because:
1.- Is military.
2.- It gives a bit of everything (better army, better development, better autonomy, 1 diplomat, better conquest).
Military usually isn't something you can let slide on the start.
There are several techs in the start which get you tactics and make your armies pretty much OP if you have them vs the opponents.
@@Minuz1 Yeah but i can usually increase tech level, get 1 mil idea bonus, increase tech, get another mil idea bonus and keep repeating, not just dump everything on idea group.
Honestly If you are going mil idea first, you should either go offensive/quality (i prefer offensive for faster siege, but quality was good due to its policy with economic giving you another 5% discipline which might have changed in the last patch idk), or just go quantity which imo is less fun but it is the meta pick since having infinite manpower is just too good, not to mention being able to field bigger armies.
I subscribed because of your EU4 pre release content back in the day, always great to see you play more!
I just finished a Mewar run and had a blast! Excited to see how your run goes!
With The new patch I've been liking aristocratic, followed by infrastructure, and then court ideas. These three idea groups give polices that give +10% gov capacity/.1 autonomy decrease, +15% manpower modifier/+10% nobility loyalty, and while it doesn't help at the start the other policy gives plus 10 max absolutism and -.1 corruption per year.
Been a while for EU4! Happy to see you back
Tips as asked at the end of the video: The meta is usually to abuse the estate privileges. They can be really powerful so I would look into that. Other than that, following the mission tree for free permanent claims, watching the government capacity and building courthouses and centralize state when neccesary.
As Mewar you can also go for the "Mewar never changes" achievement (plus Hindu allows you to use the crazy strong Indian monuments)
As a Rajasthani, this game made me Smile 😁
I played Mewar a couple of years ago, and it was one of my favorite campaigns I've done. Really looking forward to watching this!
Aaaaah, I have been waiting for this. Thanks Quill ❤
I wish I understood the UI in this game or even all that I could do as a nation. I have played over a thousand hours of Crusader Kings yet EU4 feels so foreign to me that I cannot enjoy myself knowing I am doing it all wrong.
Yea, because of all the DLC's I also still get lost despite being adequate at it years ago. Every screen has different mechanics that are either pretty much useless while important stuff is hidden in one of the thirty screens
I was actually just watching the Croatia run from a couple of years ago :D Looking forward to this!
I was just thinking how much I missed watching you play EU4. So glad it's back!
Very much looking forward to seeing you play EU4! It has been a while since I played as well.
Giving the size and development of all those opm nearby, you could just vassalize them all and create a vassal swarm with 4k troops (aka french mewar) and level 3 forts. I don't know if it would be a good idea to turn them into marches though.
So glad that Quill is back on EU4
Oh nice, a new EU4 series! Personally, I only play the Anbennar mod when I'm in the mood for some EU4, but some vanilla is nice as well. Now that I think of it, has Quill ever tried Anbennar?
Yay! Just started the last Croatia series, excited to see a new one :D Despite being a WWII fan, EUIV remains my favorite Paradox game. It is the King!
That was an amazing series, so tense in parts, but overall such a conquest.
Been waiting for you to do some EU4 content for so long! Absoltely stoked to see its back again with all the new expansions. Will you be trying a norse sweden run?
Don't forget to seize land from your estates! It greatly helps with tax income after 20 or so years.
Also Mil tech 4, 6 and 7 are big ones to get so make sure you get them before anyone aroudn you does?
And seeing as youare far away from eurpoe, will you be spawning renaissance via devving?
Imo, deleting forts is a strategic mistake for several reasons:
1) if you have enough forts/development, then you will gain yearly army tradition, meaning you can hire better generals and your troops will be a little stronger;
2) forts are expensive to build, it's highly unlikely you'll rebuild that fort;
3) forts act as choke points during wars, forcing enemy armies to siege them or try to go around if possible;
4) forts project in surrounding provinces, protecting prosperity and canceling the effects of rebelions ( separatism ) in those provinces.
The ratio of forts/dev is ( and i'm quoting Mr. Arumba on this one) 1 fort for each 34 dev in your country.
As far as wich monarch point is the most valuable, early game it would be diplo. As a matter of fact it goes like this: diplo > admin > mil. Especialy if you have gold/copper/ gems/ paper or silk in your lands. Dumping diplo points into those provinces boosts their gold income, their production and their trade value. So it's a win-win-win situation.
As far as opening ideas goes, i would personaly go for innovative into offensive and then either trade or espionage.
In addition to what other comments have said r.e. exploiting your estates (the low crown land penalty is trivial early game, take all 3 +1 monarch privs), it's worth checking if you have a +1 diplo rep advisor you can hire - it can get you over the line with alliances before you unpause (lv 1 ideal, lv 2 you can if you really need an alliance, then just sack them - take the burgher loans if needed).
Otherwise, looking forward to the playthrough, love your EU4 series'
Early game, Shiva's really good for bigger nations (read: Vijanagar) where you'll be gobbling up the people around you and getting AE. You can handle the lack of siege ability just by having more manpower to take the attrition; Shakti helps later on when you have more/stronger forts to deal with. Or if you're not expanding, Vishna or Buddha to deal with any Muslim states you might have. As someone small, though, I think Shakti is the right choice.
But I also haven't played Hindu for years, so I might not know what the hell I'm taking about.
Omg Omg Omg I'm so happy I love watching you play this game.
Imperator is definitely fine at the moment. The only thing it really lacks is flavourful missions for all the culture groups but the Invictus mod does a good job at filling that out.
Yeah, I hear nothing but good things about the Invictus mod.
WOHOO another EUIV lets play!
Innovative offensive start. So good. Such a good snowball. Innovative you want early as possible if you're going to take it, and the combo gives you siege benefits in policies.
Inno/Espionage/Offensive, the Budget Monk opening. So good.
Love this is coming out. I'm very busy with FF14 and Diablo is coming out on Thursday, but sure - I'll also start an EU4 run to unite Japan....
Also, I love that you're doing this series to parralel the Vic 3 playthough, I was really enjoying that but felt it lacked the depth and breadth of this game. Very exciting
Im so excited for this!
Any chance if a tutorial for present day EU4? I loved your first beginner tutorials
Most often the strongest ideas is Innovative -> Offensive. After that you can do whatever you want as you can definitely be in full blob mode by the time you're picking 3rd idea group
I didn't realize it's a country name, thought that you named the series like "ME! WAR!"
So happy to see EU4 back!!!!❤❤❤
If someone wont ally you because of military strength just hire merc's.
Take some time if you can to read through the rewards of the missions. They can lead to some really good claims or buffs and can influence your path to greatness. :)
I haven't played EU4 in a while either. I've been really enjoying ck3 and roleplaying in it which I don't think you can really do in EU4 or at leats not to an extent which you can in ck3. But seeing this video makes me wanna play EU4 again and really just worry about the countries and less about the opinion of characters that will just die in 10 years and not matter anymore.
I love the difference between the two games tbh. I have yet to get most dlc's for EU4 though
Me war, sounds about right for Quill :)
Mewar never changes... Except when it does.
this is by far their best game, and the mods for this game are amazing!!!!!
What makes it specifically the best Paradox game and which one would you rate second best?
@@AndreasWest crusader or stellaris, both are great. I love EU for all the ways differnet nations play. But what has kept me playing are all the amazing mods. Anbennar is a great fantasy mod for the game. Expanded univesallis is a great mod that lets you play all over history. Ante Bellum is a great alternate history mod. and that is just a few.
@@wslayerem6996 thank you for your response. I have played Stellaris but never finished the game (all Grand Strategy games take a lot of time which unfortunately I don’t have). Never played CK3, only watched other people play on Twitch and YT.
I first found you when you made the right of man(?) Dlc when the map was still grey
Quill you forget to take their money in the 1st war,
Yup. I literally just forgot that was a mechanic until the 2nd (3rd? I think it was 2nd) war.
As for idea groups, I feel the current meta is Innovative as the 1st pick, however since you have a few gold mines, going early Economic ideas will help with the inflation from having Gold, as well as funding your military, for more conquest.
Mewar ->Rajputana ->Bharat is such a fun run, you're the Prussia of India once you get going. Stackwipes for days!
You can have two map modes on each map mode button/key :)
Here’s a tip from a lot of eu4 content creators who delete forts, and some rando with 3K hours. If you are playing a small nation and plan on deleting a fort. Delete the one on your capital. You’ll still have the lvl 1 capital fort, and the other fort, which is the same amount of fort, just in 2 places which makes it harder to siege your country
A level 3 fort is worth more than a level 1 fort and a level 2 fort in my opinion.
@@dbendele its min-maxxy advice, the snowball will happen either way so get there the way you think is best :D
Even better advice is, don't delete forts. It's almost never worth it...
This is definitely not the smartest thing to do at all lmao.
for india theres a ton of unique minmaxing to the region, based on combinations of religion and culture. but i assume thats not that interresting. So i would just recommned going sikh when it spawns for some fun saving the burning world. it also fits with vic3 campaign
PDX's Best Game? Yes.
I see you said new computer. Do you build your own PC?
Speaking of EU4 as the King. I absolutely need a successor with UI overhaul as they did for CK.
I'm afraid PDX will cut out all the mechanics that are in EU4, sell you an empty shell of a successor, and then feed you back all of the same mechanics $30 a piece (some of them also being bugged to death).
This mewar of mine
4 4 6 "decent ruler"
Hint. When taking provinces in a peace, if you select provinces on the map it runs up less cost than if you select them in the menu.
You war? No, Mewar.
EU4 is absolutely PDXs best game and it isn't even close.
Hi Quill!
mewar more like memewar lmao gottem
2 siege pips on that 1st general, not so bad imo.
You forgot your alliance target!
Difficulty?
killmalwa soo as hey are both nnnnnnnnnnnnnatural highland and one og the few places in asia that breeds their ow horses.
In EU4 "gold" represent precious metals in general. So, yeah, both gold and silver are "gold" as far as the game is concerned.
I live in Lahore, please conquer my city 😂
When you speak both English and Spanish, 'Lahore' registers as 'the whore.' I can't hear it any other way.
@@sld1776 🤣
my best game was an indian run where ate china and the middle east
*gleeful tittering*
