Yes, I know he's going to become a mass murdering egomaniacal criminal, but damn do I love Nygma.
He’s more of a jigsaw killer kind of guy. If a hostage fails his riddles they die, that’s how the Riddler plays the game.
I always felt so bad for Edward even in the comics and games. He's so smart but so unsocial that nobody understands him...
He just needed a friend...
or a loverrrr and i volunteer as tribute. he’s lovely before all the murder. and even after, i’d still be up for close friendship and hugs.
I'd much rather have more screen time for Ed Nygma than Barbara Gordon.
RobotxGirl am I the only one who didn’t like her from the first ep.😩
Every second Cory is on screen, he just blows me away. He's always 100% invested in his character, the facial expressions, hand motions, creepy little flicker in his eye, he's complete utter perfection as this role
I completely agree! The casting directors made the correct choice in casting Cory as Nygma!
Also something that I didn’t know from a different comment section is that Cory may have copied some Autistic traits and brought them into Ed’s character too
Still better social skills than me
Yep. Likewise.
I would NEVER respond to having the piss ripped outta me by saying "Roger Dodger" though.
But then I've never had Kristine Kringle in my bed. Nor kissed Isabella and Leslie Thompkins.
*considers saying Roger Dodger more often in the hope of attracting Leslie Thompkins*
Nigma was a smart man who wasn't shown the appreciation he deserved and he went mad
Cannibalkorntallica123 if he lived ANYWHERE else he would have been appreciative. I hated see him become a villain
If everyone didn’t treat him so badly he probally wouldn’t have came the riddler
I so bad for this dude. He is decently friendly and really kind. He only needs someone to converse with who is almost as smart as him. He really isn't doing anything wrong, but people act like dickheads to him. I wish one of them would just play along.
Hell, even having just a single friend of any kind may have been what could have saved him from becoming a villain.
In every incarnation, I've always found The Riddler funnier than The Joker.
No joker is just crazy and don't stop when he dies he keep fighting and that what I like about joker and he play games
"I know what a paradox is,smartass!" That was just rude Harvey
Honestly that was the nicest bit of sarcasm that Harvey said to Ed. He was honestly just terrible to Ed.
the little smile when he found the finger in the guys mouth is cute. also, I like to think ed is neurodivergant. lack of social cues, fixations of riddles and mysteries, notices things normal people wouldn't and incredibly inteligent
Sometimes, Bullock pisses me off when he unintentionally disrespects Edward. Although I like both the characters...
Fr sorry for late comment but I’m re watching & on season 3 Bullock tell Nygma , Since before you went insane, still never liked you Nygma, & made me not like Harvey as much after lol
Ed is adorable. I feel so bad for him how the others cut him off all the time and walk away leaving him there standing alone. In other back stories of his character they tell how terrible his childhood was too. That was part of the reason why he became the Riddler. Another part was because nobody ever appreciated his intelligence. (This would be later on for this series of course.) I wish they made a female character similar to him so he could have a chance. (I do admit I have a crush on the Riddler.) I think this character deserves more respect but I suppose that's the way he became what he is now in other media material :/
hooikidz which is the tragic irony in that he ends up holding such a grudge against him.
I love him he's been misunderstood alot i love when he's looking at the body "i had half a blueberry muffin saving the rest for later"
Well is season 3 he meets someone names Isabella they form a relationship and the best thing is she enjoys his riddlers and weirdness and she doesn’t care that he’s crazy and has killed many people but penguin was jealouse and killed her! I liked Isabella
@@pumpkinbagelpatch he would end killing her himself, like he did with the mrs.kringle(?),she looked dangerously like her,he had known her for like a week and had already almost hurted her,i think that if it was him who would have killed her he wouldn't forgive himself
Ed is sad Jim is leaving and gives him a hug.
Over a year later he attempts to push Jim out and set him up for a murder.
I think he just kind of lost it after the murders. He knows Jim Gordon is smart enough to figure out its him.
+Nathan Johnson That made me sad.
He was so happy when he was able to help out at the GCPD, those couple of times that his co-workers acknowledged his contribution, and then he spiraled.
Its sad how fast he seemed to have just lost his soul. Jim was nothing but a threat.
He was the best part of Gotham, I loved seeing all the little clues even from the beginning that he was unhinged: the state of his notebook in the very first scene, the way he loves all the little details of a gruesome kill, the smile on his face watching the police station devolve into chaos. His character was done so well.
Notice Ed's agitation when Gordon solves his riddle. The one thing the Riddler hates the most is when people answer his shit right, because it takes the power away from himself and he no longer has something that they want and only he knows. When he asks you a riddle he really only wants the wrong answers so he can feel superior to you,so he can be right and you be wrong. Dude is twisted.
+EspeciallyTheLies I think the reason why he got upset when Gordon got it right on these clips. Was because the way Gordon answered. He didn't make much eye contact and the way he answered sounded like he didn't see the riddle as much of a challenge.
I can see why the villains, became villains. They were outcast and put down when they had SO MUCH POTENTIAL FOR GOOD!! #amiright
They are weak is what they are. Many Superheros were outcast too but found good. Its always upon ur choice more than influence.
Most heroes weren't outcasts before they became heroes at least not completely
But as we see here Nygma doesn't have anyone who approves of him and add that to the fact he was heavily abused as a child by his father after the death of his mother then yeah
Bruce Wayne
Clark Kent
Barry Allen
Victor stone ect
All had someone in their life Edward didn't
Madison McGuff thats the direction taken by Batman the animated series ( 1992). Some of the villains like Mr Freeze, Mad Hatter and Baby Jane were given sympathetic backstories. Interestingly, although Batman still carried out justice for their crimes he was still compassionate in his approach. Thats what I loved about the series. I hope Gotham takes a similar vein.
Ed reminds me a of a girl in my class with aspergers. Hyperinterested in his work and his field of expertise, really intelligent in almost a robotic way, is relatively slow to pick up and social cues, but he still means well and attempts to be friendly when he smiles. Also goes really into detail when explaining things to other people. It’s hard to look at the Riddler as a villain here if you just think he’s an autistic guy - I actually think he’s kinda sweet.
This is literally the only character I can ever relate to of being socially awkward
Aaaw see THIS is why he is going to become a bad guy. Everyone shrugs him off! how could they HES SO ADORABLE!!!!
KawaiiSakura98 The good news is that although Edward will eventually become The Riddler under Batman's timeline, he will change his ways later in his life and becomes a private eye.
KawaiiSakura98 yeah, but sometimes he is just soo awkward its painful. like his interactions with cringle.
Believe me, if he was real you wouldn't like him because you would never give yourself a chance to meet him because society made him look like a weirdo, so you would probably knock him down, too...ah, society
its okay I’m dating a weirdo :) thankfully not murderous but he’s dorky and cute
He's so adorkable ^.^
Kitty Kat I'm not sure if that's a joke or a typo, I'm guessing it's a typo
Why do I get the feeling that all it would take is a few people telling him "good job" or "that's brilliant Ed" every now and again to avoid him becoming a narcissistic sociopath?
I noticed there was a couple times they said “good job” to Ed, even from Bullock. Sadly it seemed it wasn’t enough.
@@1eyeddevil929 with the benefit of hindsight, I'd say that you're right. Even positive attention didn't seem to curb his more psychotic traits.
He's so freaking handsome, even in all of his dorkiness XD
Edward is the most precious goddamn adorable character. At least to me he is.
Olivia Drambarean
You spell it wrong. Only the Riddler in the TV show (and a few others) are spelled Nygma. My real name is Nigma. Look it up. Enigma. You understand?
+Edward Nigma yeah I know what an enigma is. I just thought the writers of the comic books changed it to a y so it would still have the same effect but be less obvious. Also I searched up his name and on google it popped up spelled Nygma not just for the tv show but also the comics....but I'll take your word Ed.
"you'll miss him when he's gone" when he's gone and the riddler is born
I could watch him for hours he is the best riddler by far. I like Carry but he was to over the top. This guy fines the right balance and that smile is hiding something more sinister behind it.
I could watch him for ever too!! I want him to end up with the Kringle person so he'll be happy!!
Agreed. Jim Carrey's performance was just....too much. THIS guy however? Definitely the Riddler :D
people find Edward adorable
but then people will find Riddler the most annoying villain in gotham...
very...odd
sad but ugh the riddle trophies in batman arkham games made me goes insane
I am very bias because I have always loved the riddler so me finding Ed adorable was bound to happen 😂
he is my favorite batman villain but the sheer number of tasks that are required to beat him in the video games paints him as an annoying prick.
Take notes Jim Carrey.
Johanna ღ Nygma is a guy who likes riddles and acts like a master strategist. He doesn't act like a a crazy guy making jokes all the time like Jim Carry did.
i love how nygma is casually better than sherlock. with sherlock, he takes 30 mins in complete silence to figure things out. nygma makes silly remarks in an urban space in around 5 minutes while he giggles and enjoys his job, even observing things not even sherlock could notice (as fast).
Whenever I see nygma I smile. He is really innocent guy, I cant believe he will be a bad guy. But riddler maybe only batman villain without evil intention
Mr Freeze has no evil intention. He just wants to save his wife. But, Ed only wants to be appreciated and seen, and his way of showing that is through violence, cus that's the only way he can get the attention he craves.
I mean killing your girlfriend and a cop and later trying to frame a good friend of yours for murder is pretty fucked up and evil
Kind of similar with Catwoman.. she's not diabolically evil she mostly just enjoys toying with Batman and all though she comes off as non caring and non sympathetic she actually is just misunderstood and guarded do to her past
Why is everyone such a dick to Edward Nygma? He's funny, smart and BETTER than most detectives as well! The man's a GENIUS!
You got your ass handed to you in Arkham Knight. I don't know why Rocksteady had you beat so easily....
This poor dude has a whole villain arc because no one would be his friend.
Bruh I know I was really sad for this dude all because he wanted friends and a girlfriend
I kind of enjoy the character of Nygma. Thanks to him I find myself becoming more organized. Thanks Nygma You Rock.
+Mikhaila Shetler Thank you. I should be an inspiration for everyone.
E. Nigma
I really love this version of Eddie. Very accurate to the comics, and proof that a live action Riddler CAN be done right.
His plotline teaches a very important lesson. Murder cures autism, people.
But seriously, it was so frustrating that our neirodivergent representation sweetroll had a 180 character turn into the maximum adjusted charmer, like :\ seriously. I bet it's just easier to write him like that instead of working his original persona into the showman villain role.
"No! I want you....to keep your job, and to have it here for...working"
DOES ANYONE ELSE JUST THINK ED IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY!? His looks, his smartness, his adorkable ways like dream guy XD (except that he's a murderer BUT HE ONLY DID THAT FOR HIS LOVE AND THEN BECAUSE HE WANTED TO) like why did Ms.Cringle not fall for him quicker he is amazing, AND I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE RIDDLER HE'S MY FAVE!!!!! And the joker ya know but whatever because Edward Nygma is my huspand
I personally don't think someone who is perfect in every way would make you solve 400 riddles just to see him
Why didnt Kringle fall for him, because shes attracted to forceful jerks. And because he gave off weird stalker vibes like trying to sniff her o.O
chizoioioi re-reading my comment just made me cringeeee 😂😂 I was going through a Ed phase; I mean I still flipping love him but Jesus I needed to calm down 😂
You can tell by some of Gordon's facial expressions that he doesn't like Ed either
Finding someone uncomfortable to interact with doesn’t mean active dislike. Ed kinda reminds me of this one guy from a biotech-forensics course I took - super obsessive, never sat still, weird hobbies, odd sense of humor, and very little grasp of social cues. The guy was weird and hard to interact with, he almost effortlessly made people uncomfortable, but that didn’t mean everyone disliked him. He was a decent enough guy; you just had to be very blunt with him. He was still learning what most people know instinctively from the time they’re very young; most of our classmates kind of knew that and tried to be patient. I see a lot of that in Jim’s interactions with Ed - that patience. Same with Captain Essen. Virtually everyone else just insults him or treats him badly for not already knowing this stuff.
Oh, Ed. He's so entertaining and, in my opinion, deserves a bit more screentime. I love how much joy he takes in watching that girl die from Viper/Venom.
I'm still wondering about the video games, though. Maybe he was lonely from playing video games by himself.
Viola Girl Sloppy, a sloppy ignoramus. He was referring to the fact that the coroner missed an important clue.
Viola Girl He probably plays the most complex games of all. I wonder if he's a Dwarf Fortress fan...
Dwarf Fortress? I read that's a construction game, but I first assumed that it was a strategy game. It could possibly be both, I guess. Also, have you read the Sherlock Holmes novels? Er, stories, Sherlock only had three full length books. I haven't read my collection in a while.
to bad he'll become a villain, he is really useful with Gordon.
Ge@r&@rcher Then he becomes the good guy afterwards. He becomes a private investigator.
"... There is a MUCH better way to do this."
harvey was so unnecessarily rude to him :') i loved s1 ed the most tbh.. he was sweet but misunderstood. the pre-riddler version of him has a special place in my heart..
13:22 I would die if he hugged me. I have a crush on the Riddler so.......yea...........heh heh.... *smiles awkwardly*
13:20 His hug, though. I swear sometimes he's just so sweet. 00:03 pretty cool
The saddest part of him is that he’s actually a decent and unique person. The kind of dorky guy I love if not for his split personality disorder.
I love him. He's fucking adorable.
Somebody be nice to him, he’s good at his job and a sweet little fella!
Hahahah.... Thank you so much for uploading :) I *love* this guy as the Riddler. He is actually kinda hot but the mannerisms and the "I-am-creepy" hair do very nearly kills it. To top it off, his brilliance in Gotham is so seriously under-appreciated. He's this oddball that everybody seems to take for granted. And those scenes with Kristen Kringle!!! I laughed so hard! He tried to flirt and it turned out so futile xD I know that feeling :'( Honestly he's probably the only real reason why I'm watching Gotham. I can't wait to see more of him :D
Yes I love how at 0:44 he is just sneaking around the corner my friends compare me to him all the time
Agreed. I have a crush on the Riddler in general but this guy is the best live action Ed. I think he is adorable
Edward is so gorgeous..I want him as a Friend.. he has a fantastic intelligent mind
I can't be the only one who thinks he looks like idubbbz.....
J. D that's my exact thoughts. He's a bit healthier looking tho and more good looking. :)
aww he is adorable! and he loves to play videogames! like me.
everytime i see edward i feel so bad for him, he just needed someone to understand him the way he was and instead they were mean towards him, my boy deserves better
gosh i love him hes so skrunkly
The Riddler and Scarecrow are my two favorite Batman villains, for different reasons.
I love the Riddler and there’s so much untapped potential with the character. A dark version that is still comedic in a messed up way. Not joker crazy, but smarter. Like a less gruesome; more comedic jigsaw.
Ed just need a friend... and need more appreciation for his work because he's a goddamn genius and helped the GCPD a lot.
He really is one of the highlights of the show in my opinion
I love love love this guy as Edward.
the undertone of creepy that steadily grew was done SO well
poor Ed....he doesn't deserve to go through that. actually, now that I think about it..... me and Ed have a lot in common; we love riddles, we both wear glasses, love science and blowing things up and I won't treat him the way every one else at the GCPD does (because 1, my parents taught me better. and 2, it's just plain mean.)
Cory Michael Smith is a great actor to the Riddler, he gave his touch of sophistication, charisma, and with how handsome and sexy Cory is, the Riddler was for me the most attractive character in Gotham
Für mich ist Oswald Cobblepot der Genialste. Ich habe mich in ihn verliebt. ❤❤❤
Wenn mich jemand nervt, nerve ich ihn mit Rätseln. Ich liebe die Raterunden vom Riddler.
hes the best and everyone treats him like trash
I've always had a soft spot for Nygma, especially since we are very very very similar. What a wonderfully done charecter.
poor Ed he's so bad at making girls like him
Edward Nashton More like an idiot. Walter White was a nerd and was badass
I forgot how dorky and adorable he was is season 1. I am fascinated by how he changed. I can't get enough of him :D
He's so misunderstood
God the acting in this series is great! I got to start watching this.
Nygma has got to be one of the most tragic characters on the show ok yes he's a little weird but he is so Kind and Caring and everybody shrugs him off his love for Ms. Cringle is genuine and I hate when she gets pissed at him when he tried to help I loved the scene when he brings her watermelon such a poor poor guy :(
i dont think theres a word in the english language to describe the feelings that envelop me whenever nygma does literally anything on screen
I love how Jim is the nicest person to Nygma
As much as I love the Riddler Ed that we have now, boy, do I miss this Ed.
Kristen didn't like him bc she's ableist 💪🏼💪🏼
I like how all his scenes has green lighting xD
Bullock has a big role in the birth of the Riddler
No wonder he becomes a villain... They treat him like shit.
Madeleine's Paige Exactly what happens to school shooters; they get bullied and snap.
Nygma was the best character in the show. He was so smart but socially awkward but he was loyal to the team until he snapped. Sad story
Great choice as Actor!
Nygma developed a sort of.. imaginary friend that was evil in its ways because nobody would be Ed’s friend, eventually he went completely mad because of his loneliness and pain
Oh Nygma...can I adopt you?
+YingFaDono No. I don't think that you are worthy. Can you prove that I am wrong?
YingFaDono
One simple test:
When you need me, you throw me away.
When you don't need me anymore, you retract me.
What am I?
Man, I feel bad, 'cause we all know where he's headed....
Him and Paul dano! The best riddlers
He and Sherlock might get along fabulously...if they didn't strangle each other.
I feel so bad for him i just wanna jump through the screen and give him a hug.
that HUG he gives Gordon hhhhh
he was,,, so cute back then
It's so weird going back to see how he used to be after seeing him come full circle in season 3
Looks like he's about to make a Content Cop on the Batman
If someone treated me like this I’d be out the door like that
Do you play video games??
Ed..Don't EVER! Do that again!
I would totally befriend someone like him. Highly misunderstood, extremely intelligent, but loyal.
Edward Nygma feels like the person who needs someone to be his friend, someone who would actually play along with his little fun questions and someone who actually appreciates his job. Because honestly, I feel sorry for him
Like Jim?
Andy Pham I could see him in Arkham 15 years from now, with Ed speaking through the bars with a plastic cup in hand full of beer:
Jim: Hey, remember that Viper serum when I first started
Ed: That was fascinating stuff.
Jim: Thank god that never came into anyone's hands again
Ed: Another round of checkers?
Jim: Oh, no. You always beat me with that sneaky trick of yours.
Like a nostalgia trip: In a insane asylum.
Look at the expression on his face when Jim solves his riddle. Reminds me of how sharp Bruce is in the movie.
You know, he's really good as what he does and enjoys sharing his information. Unfortunately, even as such a pivotal player, he's not appreciated or respected. In fact, he's made to struggle in an increasingly corrupt environment which becomes the foundation of the attention and acknowledgement that he seeks.
i like riddles i got one foryou i see without seeing and darknes is my only temper who am i ?
