Not only did MJ approve of this, he helped Weird Al get all the dance moves right. Best of all, this was not the only MJ parody. He also did a version of 'Beat It' called 'Eat It'.
He also used the original set from the _Bad_ music video. That set that he's on really is Michael Jackson's subway set.
He was there when he filmed it.

This video came out in 88, less than a year after Bad. Al rarely, if ever, does parodies of songs more than a year or two old. He will always try and parody what is relevant because otherwise what would really be the point? Sure it would be still be funny because Al is a genius, but parodying a song that is still fresh, and in the case of MJ still on top of the pop charts, is a thousand times more impactful. In fact he made the entire album a parody of MJ's "Bad". He called it "Even Worse" and the cover was identical to MJ's, only with Al replacing MJ (obviously). And yes, MJ loved it. He loved it so much, he even helped with the making of the video shooting it in the exact same location his video was shot.
He did a parody of Billy Joel's "Piano Man" in 2003, thirty years after the original was released. That's the only one I can think of where he didn't do a fairly current song. Although the parody was "Ode to a Superhero" and recounted the plot of the Spiderman movie that had recently come out at that time, so I suppose that made it more "relevant."
The three guys are the old, old hip hop group The Fat Boys. They were sort of famous for a little while in the 1980s.

@@mustangdebbie56 No, it wasn't. The gang leader was Lou Washington, a comic actor who had bit parts in movies such as House Party, I'm Gonna Get Ya Sucka, and Airplane II, as well Al's UHF movie. The other two are unknowns.

This was made in 1988ish. Weird Al has been "on the scene" since 1976, though he didn't have a solid record contract until 1982.

Best line was "my shadow weighs 42 pounds" LMAO. I love Weird Al Yankovic. Not only is he a great singer, rapper, etc, and funny as hell, he really goes all in for his videos to entertain. I've never been to one of his concerts, but I've heard he does the same for live shows. In-between songs he'll rush backstage to get changed into a new outfit as quick as possible to fit the next song.
This was in the same place MJ shot Bad apparently.

Well originally Michael Jackson made his song bad in 1987 weird Al came out with this song in 1988
"Hooked on Polkas" is a masterpiece and often overlooked, It is not a parody per se, but more of a mash-up of pop songs done as polkas. He has done several, but the first one is the best IMO.
