Genuinely got a lump in my throat watching the James chat.
Sad hes going.. would love to see you surprise him for his birthday by making a birthday cake for him in a pass it on without him and see what carnage ensues.
i have a new idea for pass it on...strap a go-pro on each contestant (on the chest, on the head or over the shoulder) and let us experience the chaos and the confusion and the carnage during pass it on
Not gonna lie.... I teared up through this video, even at the end of the Pass it On. James has always been a part of Sorted as long as I've watched this channel. I remember when in his early days he'd be in there for two secs and then all the comments would be about getting more of James on screen. I'd almost forgotten that James wasn't there since day 1. We're gonna miss you sooo much James. Please be back as much as possible.
@@jono6379 great idea... when’s his birthday?
Absolutely gutted James is leaving but he's gotta do what he's gotta do. Good luck to him in his new job, Sorted won't be the same without our favourite sassy Scottish ginger :(
How is he Scottish? He has a posh English accent lmao
@@QbiKz His parents are both Scottish, but he grew up on the England side. He's mentioned it in previous videos. :)
Yea I don't really see the point in watching this show anymore without James. Every episode before this that was missing James I just fastforwarded through.
@@SCHTRAM u will regret it soon, and u will miss the epic comeback
On the other hand, I'm kinda looking forward to who they'll bring in to replace James.
Another note - James actually saved the day by putting a timer on the other two cakes. Nobody else but Ben knew they were there.
We watched the video as well
@@bluerun22 I missed that part actually, glad they commented on it because I was wondering who put the timer on.
@@Lola-pk1tu pay attention next time 🤷🏾♂️
@@bluerun22 People write comments to express their views on the video and maybe highlight a specific incident they liked that they didn't think had enough attention brought to it. Since you seem to have noticed everything that happened in the video, there's no reason for you to be reading the comments, is there?
actually on mobile (how I was watching this) it shows recent comments in the same frame) and it happened to be yours. So I’m “highlighting” that We all saw it.
The fact that Ben knew James liked merengue more than a buttercream, following James walking into the kitchen and saying “this is a swiss merengue” smiling like a little boy made me emotional ❤️
And then he talks about how he wants a Jam and Jamie makes one for him. ❤️
5:18 his smile
what Ben said about Swiss meringue was true
it’s so sweet
They all deserve 9’s. This is the first pass it on where everyone worked together as if they all had the same recipe in front of them. They each did their part whether it was busy work or waiting. Were there missteps? Yes, but there was no real miscommunication or upsets. Well done! Especially for James’s last pass it on. We’ll miss you, James.
Imfeel like they do better with more specific briefs. When its more general or vague they have competing idea. Here, they had to make a cake and restricting with celebration meant we didnt get someone going for a crabcake or Barry switching to an icecream cake or something.
Yes!
James will be massively missed. I wish you the best of luck wherever the road takes you.
Not really
@@BanterBoyOrigins care to elaborate?
He should start his own channel
@@BanterBoyOrigins Sod off.
James: "Janice can you set a timer?"
Janice: "Janice, Alexa. Same thing..."
I think Janice is sad she's losing her boyfriend
100%
But can we get Janice as a Alexa voice version
@@LennoxMatt1 I think Alexa lets you add custom voices. So, it's doable, I think.
Strange...Janice set that timer on Mike's phone hmmm... 🧐
@@derajanon7252 omg!? Do you think she's cheating on James with Mike!?
Jamie: *i wanna leave james with a good impression of me*
Also Jamie : *makes a jam that James was thinking of and its actually good*
Me: 😍😭
I feel this.
That was such a moment for me!! Spaff
@@SortedFood *hugs* we were so proud of you for that, Jamie!!
I’m constantly switching between “DONT YOU DARE LEAVE!” and “best of luck you beautiful bastard!”
Well said!!!
That lovely moment after James said "We could do with some fruit to add a freshness, maybe a jam" and we have Jamie saying "We could do with some freshness, something fruiting, so I'm going to make a jam"
i love those moments when they think exactly the same! like when they made that spag bol pass it on and 3 people went "mm we could do garlic bread. jamie can do that!" and then it was jamie's turn and he said "mm i'M gonna make some garlic bread!"
@@Erdnussbuttertoast That's the difference between just having hosts/presenters and mates.
Could not ask for more from my two most favorite SORTED guys. James will be missed.
I truly can’t believe James is leaving the channel. I realized how important he was to the dynamic during his brief absence earlier this year. He’ll certainly be missed. At least everyone’s on good terms, and I hope to see him return from time to time.
I agree. I am biased as he is my favourite.and literally the only reason I watch. He is a wonderful balance.
I have been around since when it was only the four of them... and that was also tons of fun. I'm sure they will be fine, even though i will also miss him.
@@seanmegan1278 afaik even when it was just the four of them, he was the guy working behind the scenes until he joined the guys in front of the camera. Think he is just going to be taking a hiatus from videos and do something that will improve him. Pop in maybe every few months to say hello.
Yeah, he bought balance to the show. Definitely I'm going to miss him.
"i didn't feel like i added anything special, i just did what i was told." yes Barry, and i APPLAUDED. Loudly.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is not F*** things up, so BRAVO Barry!
and it only took someone leaving, for him to do it lol
So much applause
Today could be titled, Barry achieves a badge for following directions.
Aw, I missed his creative chaos a bit!
MIKE YOU MADE THE SPONGE. ZERO!!?? Every single person said it was a good sponge. This is why he loses battles and Jamie wins them. It's all in the confidence
Also, gonna miss you James
Agreed. Higher score for mike!
It’s not a Mike thing if he doesn’t punish himself for one tiny thing
@@zzskyninjazz1821 yep so sad
Not usually one for commenting but just have to say that as someone with a quieter, more introverted personality myself I’m really going to miss James’ character on screen but I hope he has an amazing time in his new role and can’t wait for his return on some future gadget videos 😊
Are these our boys? Like has someone replaced them while we weren't looking? This is probably by far the best pass it on they've ever done. This was shockingly impressive.
They tried so hard to make james proud of them one last time 😌
Tbf it was probably scripted so they all had an idea of what to do and make a perfect end result for their friend.
@@OCEANbreezeDIA You're probably not far off but I like to think they've had at least some sort of personal growth over this time xD
@@takemetoglasgow09 It's not okay that he's leaving :'(
They generally do pretty well in the Pass it Ons when they have a strong direction they need to go in. It's when the challenge is open ended and they end up fighting each other that they get into trouble.
Aw Mike’s admission about scoring himself a 0 was so sad and sweet, he seems genuinely emotional about it. I’m a professional cake maker and I say you did a good job Mike! ❤️
Yeah, Mike's too hard on himself. It sounds like his sponge tasted good and had good texture, the top looked good, and the sides looked fine to me, even if they didn't turn out exactly how he was picturing.
He seemed to mark himself poorly because the ganache was the wrong consistency, but he didn't have any control over that so I think he made a good decision given the circumstances
He always scores himself low! MIKE show some more confidence! You are a really good 'normal'! Trust us. We know!!
its more content he knows what he is doing I rather he be himself that's why I watch this channel but not try to pretend to be bad for entertaining more people
Mike’s so sweet and humble. He made the sponges and they looked great. We love Mike
It absolutely breaks my heart how hard Mike is on himself, especially when he does well 😭😭
Agreed! He is so much better then he gives himself credit for.
Barry: “I haven’t brought anything new to the table, therefore I’ll give myself a...” 10, Barry, a 10. That’s the best you could do.
😂😂😂
yeah he didn't make a mess or changed the entire course of the things
Really sad the guys often rate themselves low for "not adding anything" like it's okay to just move the recipe along. Stiring, mixing, etc is still an important step to the over process
not sure if insult or complement.
I was worried that a celebration cake is boring let's do celebration baked Alaska
Just happy for James that he's confident in taking on new opportunities. Not everyone would have the guts to go for something new. Hope it all works out for him, but he'll always have a special place in our sorted hearts.
Seeing James leave reminds me how painful adulthood is. Growing up as kids with your mates you never thought about leaving each other. Until one day you said goodbye for one last time
Please don't change the intros to pass it on. We need the "Where's the dish?!?" By James. Otherwise it won't be the same
So sad to hear James is leaving, but sometimes you have to make really hard decisions that won't make everyone happy to be the best version of yourself you can be. I know James will tap into all his creative potential and ambition and I wish him all the best!
I've been here from when James never was in the video, and then started making cameos, and then came back on popular demand, and then opened up from his shell, and then became a regular, and now is finally leaving the show!
I can't believe it... James, you are the best and best wishes to you and your life up ahead!!! 💜❤️💜❤️
Exactly.
Watching James be so efficient and smart for his final segment in the pass it on made it really hit how great he’s going to do in his new job. So proud of him but I’m so sad to see him go.
The shaking of the camera as Mike totally spaffs the ganache was perfection
I am so happy for James, and I wish the best luck for him at his new job as a chef
Of course, I can't wait for him to return, but the fact that he's improving so much makes me proud.
100% this... But yeah, slightly gutted that he took our year of 'self improvement' so seriously!! 😂
@@SortedFood You'll just have to do gadget videos every other week.
“Oh I’ve made a terrible mistake” - Took the words out of our mouths James! Good luck with the proper job, we’ll miss you.
I feel like Barry is too hard on himself when he doesn't add something new, because he's actually good at the technical stuff, when he doesn't try to add random stuff just for the sake of it, and then he seems really helpful!
Sometimes his creativity does pay off, though! I don't like the idea of discouraging it overall... :)
@@deprofundis3293 Oh, for sure! :D I just don't want him to only give himself points when he "adds something new"
no one seems to have talked about this so I will: we're gonna miss all the chef vs chef battles :(
Mike was expecting aggressive criticism.
James: "Oh my god, that looks cool"
Well done James. You'll be missed
I feel like James leaving the room with the words "I've made a terrible mistake" tells us ja lot about him and why we love him. Thanks Mike for dragging him into this in the first place. A lot of laughs woul not have been had had it not been for your great idea
Wdym he was dragged in
@@garretwadden618 See the other video : James was the development chef/backscene chef until Mike 'encouraged' him to start appearing on camera in the background.
I just love the incongruity of the animalistic panic in Barry's voice as he desperately screams, "OH MY GOD! THERE ARE MORE CAKES!"
I hate the fact that Mike is so critical of himself, I think that the small dribbles of the ganache looked quite good because it kept the vibrant pink frosting on show, and he did spectacularly to get the cake batter made for a quick start to such a special PIO
I'm so happy for James, but I'm going to miss him, hopefully he comes back often ❤️
We're really happy for him too, but will definitely miss him!! I'm sure he'll be back soon, Spaff x
“Awww Celebration Cake, wonder what it’s celebrating-oh now I’m sad.”
James has been my favourite since I started watching Sorted. I’m gonna cry for a little bit but I’m happy for James and wish him the best for the future.
hes my fave too
Same. I love all five of the guys but James just always stood out for me thanks to his extremely dry humor and the way he could be judgmental while somehow remaining endearing at the same time.
Ben talking about the cake for five minutes "I'm a bit loss for words." 😂😂😂
2:40 James: Oh no, I've made a terrible mistake!
Someone should GIF that.
Barry deserves a higher score, he saved those 2 cakes in the second oven.
I feel they need to have a proper goodbye video where they all cook Jame’s favourite food for him!
James will be missed, but he left on a high note with this pass it on, and I'm sure all of us watchers wish him the best on his new adventure!
James went ahead and gave us a „Zayn leaving One Direction” moment. We’ll miss you mate, good luck on your journey!
Sad to hear that James is leaving, I certainly enjoyed his style of cooking and the different level of dry humour, his presence shall be missed! but onwards and upwards, best of luck with your new chapter James, be nice to know where you are headed so we can come and try some of your food for reals!
Well, for the 1st time ever in my life I repeatedly screamed, "Just pour the ganache on the damn cake!! Just POUR IT!! Pour over! C'mon!!"
Best of luck to James!! He will be missed but congrats to him on the new job.
Honestly, this channel as a whole had been such a huge influence on me getting me interested In cooking and food as a media source , James has been incredible to watch in the channel and I hope for the best in his future. I’m now starting a cooking college and both James and Ben have been such an inspiration
That is awesome to hear, thank you!!
The new fun question is where will James be cheffing so that SortedFriends can go to both appreciate the food and haggle him for leaving. 😜
Alastair saying “perfectly acceptable” is among the highest level of compliments you’ll ever receive from him lol
Alastair?
@@scottturner1205 That’s his middle name.
@@PokhrajRoy. oh right
It’s an “Oh Dear, Oh Dear” kinda day!
Yay not alone
Ah man, James is leaving!? You can't just drop a bombshell like that. Have we not been through enough?! In all seriousness, all the best James - we look forward to the guest appearances.
I can't get over how happy James was when he saw the sliced cakes, as well as how happy Ben was when he saw everything ready to be constructed. I'm glad James' final video (for a while) showed what the normals are capable of.
*tunes in expecting an absolute mess to laugh with/at* *gets hit with the news that James is leaving* *cries* What a whirlwind of 30 seconds.
Ditto.
And then you got a fairly organized Pass It On, watching the guys act like absolute legends in the kitchen.
This is now a sad episode for me...I was wondering why James was gone for a few episodes. I wish him the best of luck, but now I'm sad 😢
Sad James is leaving, wishing him the best.
Pass it on order suggestion:
After each round Ben chooses who goes next but Ben has to watch each round in silence. Ben goes last.
This was one of the best Pass It On videos, ever! Such a great way to send James off to his new job!
Also, can we get a Mike appreciation thread going?!?! He has seriously undervalued himself! The whole drip wasn't working, so he did what he could to fix it, and the end result looked fantastic!!
"There's a bit of a huttlestorm" says Ben, missing the mixer bowl and leaving a snow storm of flour all around it 😂
It's both an exciting and sad announcement, but I'm sure the Sorted team understands the sentiment! The community wishes James all the best going forward, but also... we need to band together to find a few hundred gadgets so that we can ensure James has a number of future videos :P
Like so many others, I'm really going to miss James. He's had an elegant mix of expertise and snark that has made watching him a delight.
I just love how happy and giddy James in his final turn. He just added the stuff he liked, and did what he wanted.
Looking forward to see him again to judge gadgets and ingredients. Good luck James.
I remember when James started getting more screen time and it was amazing to see. He really adds a nice balance to the team.
James, nooooo, don’t go!
But seriously, sometimes in life we want to switch things up and take a different path.
You have to do whatever makes you happy and creative and fulfilled.
You will definitely definitely be missed!
“I will add the butter to the buttercream.”
“I too will add the butter to the buttercream.”
"I'm having a meh" might just be my life motto. I'll miss you James!
Oh no, I'll miss James so much. He's my favourite 😭. But of course, I wish him the best, hopefully their now we might have the chance to eat some of his actually cooking in the future.
IF they tell us where he went. Might want to let him get settled in first, though.
@@adde9506 that's why I wrote might and in the future :)
While this is gutting - I think it’s a great opportunity not only to bring on guest chefs and new experiences, but also to bring some of the great people who work behind the camera up in front. That’s how James started - and it seems like a good policy to keep!
In the beginning everyone in the video has what we call in german "glasige augen" (glasy eyes), which means "watery eye".....I am also crying for losing James...who else has glasige augen?
Its called teary eyed in English
Aw. I noticed the same. Esp Barry & Mike.
I hope James knows he's cherished by millions of subscribers, including this one. I wish him the very very very best of luck and happiness because he deserves it! He'll go far with that thirst for new challenges and new knowledge. We're all rooting for you, James, wherever you're headed!
Anyone else crying through this episode? We'll miss ya, James!
"Whenever you invite me" - let's be honest, they're going to invite you every single time James
6:11 "...because Mike will have spent the entire time making a cake batter, WHICH IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE."
I love what James said, because Mike always scores himself too low. And judging by the comments he undescores himself in this video as well. He really is so much better than he thinks...
I know it's 2 yrs late comment, but didn't see anyone quoting James on this yet and I think this is important.
“Can I make a new cake in 3 minutes” 😂 omg I love Mike
I'm going to watch every episode of Sorted going "Where's the dish?" Because James is and will always be the real dish. And he will be missed so much and by so many. Your sass, your intelligence, your chef ability, and your general entire charm.
Best of luck in all your future endeavours James, and I am sure I say for all viewers, that we hope you return home to Sorted now and then in the future. Xx
Sad to hear James is leaving, but I know that even if he's not here with Sorted, he'll always be a part of the Sorted family and we'll continue to support him. Wishing you nothing but the best, James!
"Where's the Dish.." and James sassy nature is one of many James verbal gemstones I'm keeping forever. Congratulations Chef, we'll all miss you terribly!!😔😍💙💙💙
Aww so many great takeaways from this one... Mike scoring himself so low and James being "that's perfectly fine" while looking dead at the camera. Also, can we give Barry props on catching the other two cakes before they ruined?
Could we get a Janice reacts video with Janice watching clips of past videos and providing commentary while she does, creating a compilation video with a twist? Cause we all deserve more Janice in our lives.
Edit: Maybe have it be a history of sorted food kind of overview. Give an introduction for new blood? If its short enough it could serve as a channel trailer.
James' presence will definitely be missed but I'm always happy to hear when someone's pushing themselves to be a better person in any way and if James feels this is the next step in his life all the power and luck to him. Thank you James for sharing your knowledge with and helping entertain so many of us ❤
As if nobody ever changed jobs before. This was his job, as he said at the start. Now he has a new job, he won't be going back to the old job. Sound familiar? Plus he's not disappearing off the face of the earth, so I suppose he'll still be in touch with his old Sorted mates.
Just not with you.

Tears. I started watching Sorted less than a year ago, and James was and will always be my favourite.
Literally chocked on my pizza watching Mikes last go. Swallowed some of it the wrong way and nearly chocked to death. I’d have haunted James if I’d died, for leaving
I'll really miss James, his sassyness, sarcasm and, let's face it, dreamy looks, made him such a man-chef-crush.
Happy for a new beginning and wish him all the best!
James was my favorite Sorted host out of the 5 of them, gonna miss him
We need a SORTEDfood vs 'James and his new chef team' battle
Also surely one of the normals should be promoted to Chef. Personally I think Jamie but all 3 are perfectly capable of (almost) carry on James' legacy
Well. That was a gauntlet of emotions. I ran off excitedly to tell my girlfriend that there was a new "Pass It On" video, and then ran back to watch it, found out that James is leaving, and now I'm sad. I even shed a few tears.
Best of luck in your new job, though, James!
I haven't watched the video yet. I basically turned it off once the announcement was made.

The sheer raw emotion in this video is really intense. You can tell in the intro they edited a bunch of sections, because they cut back and the boys all look a little red around the eyes.
Nothing but pure, unfiltered love, clear as day. True mates for life.
That little dance Barry did when getting ready to cut the cakes makes my day every time I watch this.
