It is just testimony to how biased much of the media is nowadays. I didn’t grow up watching or playing soccer (football). But watching a random Messi highlight film started me on a journey that has me planning a trip to Barcelona to watch the man in person. And for as well as Messi plays, he seems far less cocky than the NBA players here in America that act far more cocky despite having accomplished far less in their respective career.

Many of them had other jobs besides football, like firefighters, janitors, plumbers etc. They also smoked cigarettes, marijuana, drank alcohol and some of them did cocaine. And there was no science behind the defense, no tactics and detailed studies, they just had defenders who chased the ball like dogs. There were some great defenders back then, but they were very rare. They didn't have defenders like in modern football, and the managers were not focusing on defense, they focused more on attack.
