  • In this episode of Intellectual Horsepower, we got the opportunity to sit down with Edelbrock experts Mike Sanders and Rick Roberts, as well as Pat Musi of Pat Musi Racing Engines to talk all about cylinder heads. We discuss what goes into cylinder head manufacturing and development from the manufacturer level, as well as what engine builders like Pat Musi want to see in a well-performing head. From the ports to the valvetrain, we cover it in this cylinder head focused episode.

    Great talk on the always changing world of cylinder heads, lads . It is so interesting . I run a small engine shop in Canada at use lots of edelbrock products. Pat takes a good product and makes it better for sure
    Lizzy is havin a good winning streak , let’s remember her in our prayers for her biggest challenge in life .

    As far as mass-produced parts, Edelbrock is a leader & good quality products. A trusted name for good reason.

    Great info, gents. Thanks. If the new heads to be; are as good as the new 4150 carbie they released, I can't wait. Hear Clevland 4V guys!

    What surprised me is, In terms of Cast Cylinder Heads, Edelbrock currently cast the most badass LS Cylinder Heads on the planet and are the basis for many Builder's custom CNC Ported designs (big bore LS, square port, splayed valve, SB2 valve cover).

    I'd like to see a rectangle port LS head Crossed with a BBC deck, so it is basically a LS headed big block Chevy, custom intakes and cam if required, basically a rec. Port LS7 head scaled up a bit. Maybe kant the intake a bit, raise the exhaust ports a bit. And cast a nice looking valve cover for it. Maybe looking a bit traditional, a large rectangle, but thin like the LS/LT covers , it should flow plenty, make it a twisted wedge closer to a SBC head for a BBC

    I bought one of Edelbrock nitrous kits probably around 1980 and it never worked right. I should have sent it back but I did not know exactly what it was supposed to do and eventually just sold it for cheap

    The Gen 3 hemi head by edelbrock seems to have valve guide issues. Is there a way to put larger more robust valve guides to help with the deflection??? What about coming out with a true roller rocker setup for hydraulic roller camshafts????

    Do you believe that Total ignition timing is a good measure of the heads ability to control wet flow?

    Valvetrain stability and the port dynamics are equally as important, you can't rpm an engine without a stable valvetrain, you also can't rpm an engine if you don't have the flow to support the cfm demand of that engine.

    What is the trick at preventing flat cam lifter failure. I have never had a Edelbrock cam failure. Cannot say the same for Comp cam.

    • @MsKatjie
      @MsKatjie Před 9 měsíci +1

      Is that so. Very interesting. What lifters did you use, if you don't mind please; on the failures? Did you use lower value springs?

    • @keith6872

      @@MsKatjie Comp solid lifters and Comp cam. Springs were not high tension, because of lower rpm potential of pontiac 455.

    I also bought one of the first set of big block Chrysler Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads and they have a lot of porosity in the casting so not real impressed with that particular set

      Plus on those Early Head versions The combustion chamber design was not optimized at all

    Well Edelbrock, your valve stem to guide tolerances are too tight. I just refinished a set with 1k miles on them. Already galling the stems.
