    Welcome to my channel where I take on the thrilling challenge of making the fastest Razor MX125! In this DIY project, I'll show you step-by-step how to upgrade your Razor MX125 electric dirt bike to reach an impressive top speed of 20 mph. Hold on tight as we push the boundaries of speed and performance, achieving jaw-dropping wheelies that will leave your kids breathless. Get ready for an adrenaline-packed adventure with our Scary Fast Razor MX125!
    This bike goes 20 mph with 165 lb rider. It would probably go 25mph with my 60 pound daughter on the bike, but she’s too afraid to max it out.
    I have more parts ordered to make this bike even faster. Longer chain so I can hook up both motors simultaneously. Larger motor sprocket to increase top speed. I can make it faster, but not sure if anyone would dare to max out this little bike. It gets scary when these small tires are spinning that fast.
    The 24V motor I purchased was priced very low and worked well for this budget build. It was rated at 3000rpm which is similar to the RPM’s on higher voltage motors. If it burns out from me pushing 40V, I will replace it with a larger voltage motor.
    Here is a larger 36V motor with the same mounting bracket. It should hold up better than the 24v motor.
    www.amazon.com/36V350W-Electr...
    Update: The bike is still working great after many uses. Batteries last well over 1 hour of riding before needing a charge. Best upgrade for your RAZOR.

      Lol, yeah. She took the fall like a champ. Got back up and dusted herself off. Definitely a lesson learned. It took a few days for her to get comfortable on the bike again. She rides it fast now. We are planning to put the same motor swap onto a razor scooter. That should be a lot of fun. Let’s hope the scooter doesn’t pop wheelies. 😀

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Lol, good catch. 😀 The plan was to run 1 motor with 40v and the second motor with 20v battery on separate throttles. I was trying to use it as extra boost. I ran into 2 issues. First issue was that I ordered a larger 14 tooth sprocket for the 20V motor, but the item got lost in the mail and hasn’t arrived. Second issue is the bike is already too fast for my kids and I don’t think they will use the extra boost. If the replacement sprocket arrives, I will probably reinstall the second motor to see if the boost works.

    • @MichelBakhos
      @MichelBakhos Před 8 měsíci

      Awesome thanks for the thorough explanation. I want to upgrade just the throttle do I need to change the controller as well or can I just get a generic throttle off Amazon and wire the 3 wires to stock controller ?!

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@MichelBakhos It looks like the stock MX125 controller only has 2 orange wires going into the controller for the throttle input. It has a 4 pin connector, but 2 of the wires on the 4 pin connector does not go into the controller. It would be difficult to install the 3 wire full range throttle to the factory MX125 Controller. Nothing is impossible though. I'll check the inputs and output wires with my multimeter when I have a chance. Maybe I can figure out a way for that to work correctly. I'll keep you posted if I get it working.

    Hey man, do you use a tensioner for the chain? Did you change out the motor gear or is it 8t? Could you put llike a 10t on it? Also how long does the battery last?

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi, No tensioner was used. The rear wheel can slide back in order to tighten the chain similar to bicycle chains. I used the 11 tooth sprocket that came with the new motor. The bike went approximately 20 mph and feels too fast for such a small bike. Any faster and the bike would probably need a front brake and suspension. The batteries lasted over 1 hour of riding. I tried to have my kids run the batteries down but they were exhausted after an hour of non stop riding. Both batteries still had over 60 percent battery charge after 1 hour of riding. We are using a pair of dewalt 4ah batteries. If you wanted longer ride times, you can use larger AH battery packs. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for checking out the video.

      Hi, I just had my daughter test out the ride time of the razor with the dual dewalt batteries. The batteries lasted well over 1 hour and she was tired of riding before the batteries died. I checked the battery level and there is still plenty of charge left. 2 out of 3 bars are still on the dewalt batteries. If I had to guess, I would say the batteries last 2 hours.

    Hello Can You Still Use Stock Charger 🤔.

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I don’t use the stock charger because it is not rated for 40 volts. After I upgraded our razor MX125 from 12v to 40v, I have not used the factory charging plug. I use the factory dewalt battery charger to recharge the dewalt batteries. I love how easy it is to simply pop off the batteries and swap the batteries out for 2 freshly charged batteries. I have 4 dewalt batteries that I rotate out. The dewalt charger is easy to use and the batteries simply click onto the charger.

      Hi,
      The power will most likely be the same when you go full throttle on the full range throttle compared to the oem throttle. The full range throttle and controller would be a great upgrade. It teaches your kids how to adjust their speed during turns similar to a real motorcycle.

      @@bears893 Hi, there is a 2 wire connector that is on this controller. It has a blue wire and red wire on it. It is the ignition switch. Your power switch should have 3 pins in the back of the switch. Connect the top pin to the negative on the battery. The blue and red wires can go into the other 2 available pins on the back of the power switch. I usually connect the blue wire to the middle. Red wire to the bottom pin. It doesn’t matter which pin the blue or red wires go into. They make a connection when the switch is turned to the on position.

    Why did you keep the original speed control on the handle bar?

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 3 měsíci

      I was planning to keep the original motor on the bike for extra boost. I ordered a different sprocket for the original motor to increase the top end speed but the sprocket got lost in the mail. I didn’t want to wait for another sprocket to arrive and decided to remove all the extra weight. The bike is plenty fast and gets pretty scary for such a small bike. My daughter said she wouldn’t want to go any faster and doesn’t even full throttle the bike the way it is. 😀. The mx125 is pretty maxed out. I’m waiting for her to outgrow the mx125 so we can get the larger MX350 or MX500.

      @@DIYwithDUY These are all the things I want to hear haha! I ordered the motor and throttle (x2) for my boys. The dewalt battery alone added a little boost but not much. Got the bikes out of storage yesterday and one was not working. The plan was always to upgrade eventually but figured I’d wait till parts were needed or they got board with the speed.. They want to go faster. I’m assuming this will allow them to run uphill and thru grass areas better too.

      @DIYwithDUY  Před 3 měsíci

      @Aweber87 Yes, the Mx125 with upgraded motor and throttle will definitely be able to go through grass and uphill. It makes the bike feel much more like a motorcycle with the variable throttle as well. Let me know if you run into any issues with your conversion.

      How long do the batteries last roughly?

    • @DIYwithDUY
      @DIYwithDUY  Před 3 měsíci

      @Aweber87 we have the 20V 4AH dewalt batteries and they last well over an hour of non stop riding.. if you need a longer riding time, you can get larger batteries with more Amp Hours. I have multiple dewalt batteries and the kids usually swap them out after an hour of riding for a set of freshly charged batteries. There is usually 2 out of 3 bars left of charge on the dewalt batteries after an hour. Make sure you don’t let the batteries get completely drained. It might damage your dewalt battery packs. I have been meaning to add a low voltage regulator, but haven’t had a chance. I just make sure they change out the batteries after about an hour of use.

      Hi, Thanks for pointing out issues you noticed. My wife has a very low risk tolerance, so I always hear warnings with every project we work on. I grew up in the 80’s and used to ride with no helmet, no gear and no shoes. I thought I was doing enough by making her wear a motorcycle helmet. I’ll make sure she wears more protective gear and closed toed shoes on future videos and projects. She was a little shaken up when this wheelie happened, but the next day, she was flying on it. It’s her favorite bike right now. I don’t hear complaints from her telling me it’s too slow anymore. Thanks for watching the video and commenting. We are always trying to learn more as we go.

      @@DIYwithDUY Sorry if I was a bit aggressive. Just found out another one of my best friends (my last one, really) died like a week ago. Anyway my father rode in the eighties with a kinda similar mindset, a few years ago nearly killed my mom (brain bleed) riding without helmets so I guess take this stuff extra serious. Please enforce safe riding standards, they're standards for a reason. I've got stepdaughters who's dad puts 'em on 30 mph scooters and stuff without so much as a helmet and one of them hit her head awhile back. Luckily she happened to hit dirt but just as easily could have hit concrete a few inches away. I don't think she rides anymore. I'd personally prefer they be wearing gear and not need it than the other way around. Btw maybe give her a tutorial on how her newly powerful bike functions BEFORE you send her off with it. I know it's easy to slip your mind when y'all are excited but one small mistake can have dire consequences. Thank god she flipped it when she did otherwise 1 twitch on the throttle at speed and she's could be in a world of hurt. I'm sure she's a tough kid but even something as small as losing a toenail or breaking something can have long term effects, both physical and mental (speaking from a lot of personal experience). Would hate for her to get hurt bad enough to ruin her love of riding. Glad she's okay and enjoys the upgrade you did for her. Stay safe man. Thanks for handling the feedback with grace.

You can use a multimeter to check all the wire connections from the batteries to the throttle controller input, power input switch. Maybe a wire got loose during the ride.
