- These clips were filmed on a Super8 movie camera (no audio). Toshindoi music added in post-production. This video features some issei (1st generation) Okinawans performing the Okinawan freestyle dance called Kachashi. At the end of a show or party, the audience is encouraged to join in and get onstage to participate in kachashi. This film was taken at my grandfather's 88th birthday party at Masa's Cafeteria, Honolulu.

Thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Thank you for posting this video. It goes straight to my heart. Filled with happy tears of the beautiful island and people of Okinawa. My father was born there. Every family gathering would end with an ecstatic "Kachashi." This video reminds me of the unique dancing of many of my relatives who are now diseased.
I wish i could see one in person. I’m mixed and recently learned my family is Okinawan and not Japanese. But I’m learning culture and language still
Dança executada em final de alguma festa ou evento com intuito de celebrar o seu sucesso. Aqui no Brasil esta arte ainda é bastante preservada pelos jovens descendentes de Okinawa.
Masa’s cafeteria - many of family parties held there. Good and rare post. Mahalo for sharing.
If you have heart and island love, you can do Kachashi!!
legal!!!
Makes me so emotional. Wonderng whiere this was recorded at.
What is the song?
I know this is old but I was wondering if your relatives were part of either Ozato (Osato), Gushikawa or Gushiken clubs? They look like some of the old-time members and relatives from my mother's side (they belonged to those three clubs in Hawaii).
Participo de um kaikan aqui no Brasil e tem muitos Gushiken de okinawa ( tomori)
