    Hi I have watch so many of these tutorials please as a beginner could you do one for basic granny stitch really slowly especially when it comes to putting hook in the various holes to double crochet several attempts so far only gives me a round instead of a square I need to see where I’m going wrong most tutorials are to fast please bear in mind it took me four days to hold the hook !!!! Help slow beginner thank you

    • @MaggiesCrochet
      @MaggiesCrochet  Před 6 lety

      Hello Sonia! We'll add it to our list to make in the future! As for your square turning out round, I would say that you need to double up in the corners. So, if you're doing four double crochet in each hole, on the corner you'd make one set of four, add your corner chains (usually 2-4 depending on which pattern you follow) and then make another set of four in that same corner. That will give you corners and not a round look. Hopefully this helps!

    I'd love to know the brand of yarn and specific colours used for the red, ivory and blue striped sample. Also any ideas how much would be needed for a baby blanket?

    • @MaggiesCrochet
      @MaggiesCrochet  Před 10 lety

      I believe that sample was made with Sugar 'n Cream worsted weight cotton yarn, and it looks like the colors are Red, Ecru, and Robin's Egg. For an 8" square without any sort of border, you would need about 1 oz/25 yds of each color. Baby blanket sizes vary - You'll probably want something at least 24"x32" for which you would need about 12 oz/300 yds of each color.

    • @MaggiesCrochet
      @MaggiesCrochet  Před 9 lety +1

      Hi Katelyn Richards,This pattern starts with a chain that is a multiple of 3 stitches long. Using worsted weight yarn, you'll get approximately 3.5 chains to the finished inch. So calculate how wide you want your bedspread to be in inches, multiply that by 3.5, and then round up to the nearest multiple of 3. Hope that helps!

Just in case I come across another pattern that says someething like this again and there is no video for me to look at. Love your videos by the way. I know 3x5=15 but it does not state a 3 set of 5 chains. This is probably a really stupid question.

      Hello Betty! We're not sure we entirely understand your question, but to end your row on the stitch repeat Granny rows pattern you would stitch one dc in the last dc (or ch 3 space depending on which row you're on). Here's the written pattern if that helps you understand it a little better.
      Row 1: (Right Side) 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, [skip next 2 ch, 3 dc in next ch] across.
      Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), turn, working in sp between dc-groups, skip first 3 dc, [3 dc in next sp between dc groups] across, ending with dc in last dc.
      Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in first dc, working in sp between dc-groups, [3 dc in next sp] across, ending with 3 dc in last dc.
      Repeat Rows 2-3 until your project reaches the desired size.

    Would I be able to chain 1 inbetween the cluster of 3's?

    • @Krissyrocksoutloud
      @Krissyrocksoutloud Před 6 lety

      No, do not chain between the clusters. This would increase your stitch count. Think about it like this, if you crochet into every stitch, that's a 1:1 ratio. In this case, you're doing three dc into one stitch on the starting row. This gives you a 3:1 ratio. By skipping two you are making up for the two skipped stitches (3:3), bringing it back to 1:1. If you chain one, that's 4:3, which in this example would give you 4 extra stitches.

    Pl explain bobble stitch

    • @MaggiesCrochet
      @MaggiesCrochet  Před 6 lety

      Hello Aparna! A bobble stitch is similar to the puff stitch. To make a bobble using three double crochet stitches you would do the following:
      1. Yarn Over (YO), insert hook in next stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops.
      2. (YO, insert hook in same stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops) two times
      3. YO, and draw through all loops on hook.
      Here is a tutorial using the bobble stitches in a hat pattern if you would like a visual example of how to make a bobble.
      czcams.com/video/EHwYBjSWV7w/video.html
      Hope this helped!

    I'm sorry but the stitch you are showing how to do doesn't look the same as in the sample picture at the start of the video. The one the young lady is doing, the spaces are more open then what it shows in the picture. How would you make it more closed?

    • @MaggiesCrochet
      @MaggiesCrochet  Před 9 lety

      Hi Crystal Jamison ,I see what you mean, though I'm not sure why that is. Both samples were made using the same pattern, though they were made by different crocheters. It could be that the once in the photo is simply stitched tighter - or it has just had more time to relax and stretch out. If you're wanting the tighter look, I'd recommend using a hook a size or two smaller than you usually would and see if that gives you the desired effect. Happy crocheting!
