As a Landy owner I agree lol
This is sooooo true !
A Defender TD5 owner here. I approve of this message!
Damn right. haha it breaks so easily. I wonder why people keep buying them.
It's so easy to think of all the things going wrong. Good on you two for focusing on how lucky you were. Machines (even the LR's we treat like our children) can always be fixed. You were unhurt, had shelter, cell reception, and wine. Thankfully now it can be a great story. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to pop over to Patreon and send some love.
Exactly, as soon as we went inside the camper we changed our mind and just looked at all the positives.
Glad you guys are well and kept it together through the whole ordeal.... Looking forward to see you back on the road !! As always ! Safe travels and thank you for sharing !
Your wife is a keeper man; love your vlogs; cheers from KSA
Amazing spirit you guys have when faced with challenges, inspirational to say the least. all the best guys
Thank you Josh
You could be proud and talk about this story for the rest of your life to your child. Really enjoy your story. Cheers!!!
Proud that they bought an inferior vehicle to the LC? Oh yeah good talking point.
Good luck with the repairs! It was just bad luck and as you say your new 130 had a dubious past plus extra stress of oversize tyres. I look forward to watching the repairs!! You will be back on the road soon - could have been worse and you are both safe!!
Loved the video. Thank you for staying positive. Will have to binge watch all the episodes
I finally watched the whole thing.............. arghhhhhh !!! But I have to say, what I prefer in this video is how positive and amazing you are and keep being through struggles like this... + WINE lol

When mishaps happens (they just happen to everyone) you get a little stunned first. Then you get going with all the small steps to turn the situation around. As long as there is nobody injured - it is just a unexpected detour of your adventure. Great work keeping the positive attitude and getting going on solving the challenges.
Thank you. After all we were happy because we got to explore Kyrgyzstan more.
Know that feeling, you guys did the best out of it.... Unbelievable!
Wish you all the best, stay safe.
Good recovery, things happen but you’re both safe, onwards and upwards.
I had a 1965 88 Land Rover. It ran great most of the time. We called it the "worlds fastest tractor."
Well you are in a better place than you were previously. I’m betting that the old mechanic will take care of you and your vehicle. Never underestimate an experienced old time mechanic. Best wishes.👍
Old aborigen proverb”get a land rover if you want to go to adventure in the middle of the outback, but get a Toyota if you want to come back”
I am happy that this story ended well !!!
You can always count on me! Happy journey))))
I had a similar thing happen to my Honda CR-V a few months back which led to the scrapping of the vehicle - I wasn't at all angry or upset though, just REALLY glad it happened at parking speeds and not at 110Km per hour on the motorway. All the best.
Holy COW!!
Nice mickey mouse made by the local mechanic..
what a great story , one of those day you guy's will never forget
I was wincing watching it being dragged on and off the tow trucks - so painful. Great to see that as usual you're looking out for each other, everyone is helping look out for both of you, and you're staying focused and positive. Wine and a good book in that situation, what could be better. 'Big tyres aren't everything.' Wow, look out - the typical Aussie suburban 4WD owner might disown you ;-)

felt in love with Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ73/1HZ engine!
Hi guys, it's just amazing how you stay it try to stay positive! That's all what life is about! One love guy's and all luck you you!
You guys are the best!!!
Problems happen with any vehicle, but you’ve got the attitude to get you through!
Love your videos👍💕 keep them coming please.
Thank you very much. You also have a great attitude. Videos won't be stopping anytime soon. :)
Amazing fortitude, you’ll both look back on this with a beer and smile. Been through similar situation and always pleasantly surprised how many people come out of the woodwork to help people in need.
It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong. You guys had an epic adventure.
Haha, the famous Clay Croft quote : ) (Or Yvon Chouinard )
Very lucky to have such a healthy mindset! You guys rock 😀💙🔝💪
Sorry for the incident on the middle of the road, God be with you happy couple, hope you have done, see you soon
Listen owning a Land Rover is having an passion for them. Most people will not understand it. It’s like a relationship ship and when you become close with a Rover it’s hard to let them go, I’ve Grown up with them and seen all of the problems with owning them. It is what gives them character, land cruisers are just like the one next to them. Land Rovers have character, also way more better looking ;)
Ha thanks you for your nice comment. 😉
Big shoutout to the Older Gentleman that offer to help on the Rover
I love this story. I had a little tow truck like that pick up my Series 109 from Santa Marta to Bogota Colombia. The wheels were off the ground when he loaded it, lol. Great story, thank you.
Wow guys we got so stressed out watching this video ! You had such crazy adventures ! Bravo de toujours rester positifs !! On se fait un petit marathon de vos vidéos en pensant à vous !
Mel & Léa
She said I can't believe it well I can. :-). This was definitely a job for the Land Cruiser.
agreed.
This is epic, guys. Following.
Loving the positive vibs!!! Kudo to you both and the old man too!
Splendid! now i can learn french while I enjoy good television
Land Rover, in Saudi Arabia it's average lifespan is two years-period.
Then drive properly don’t wreck them
Paul Dashwood Dont worry. They use them only for mallcrawling there. For offroading, they use Landcruisers and Patrols.
@@tylerdavidson2400 Truth!!

It’s because they’re made from 100% scrap...
I love landy
Wheel spacers put crazy loads on your axles, love your videos
Yes, anything with an offset from standard = high stress loads. Even wheel bearings need replacing every 15,000 - 20,000km due to excessive wear from that.
Indeed, a lot of poeple thing big is better till stuff getting broken. Only than they realize that the original is more reliable and especially if you do long trips.
We had exceptional experience in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan from the locals fixing things after spending most of the year traveling around the mountains and desert. Such amazing people
Wow. What a lovely thing to see so mant nice people trying to hekp you guys. I know what it feels like to have a catastrophic failure on a trip and be properly stranded. But by staying positive and not panicking things will come around. This happened for a reason like you said. I'm sure something good will come of this. Love you guys. Hanf in there...
That is very bad luck ... But as you said, it was good luck at the same time because it could have been really worst !
Glad everyone is okay !
Guys try not to worry 💛 components fail due to many reasons! Try fitting genuine parts when you can✌️ great Vlog enjoy these moments....take care😁
genuine parts LR parts are what caused the failure ;)
@@pablomax3045 that comment could be construed as funny? But for the fact i have owned a defender for many years which has caused many sleepless nights 😪
@@soylentgreen224 hmm a bit tongue and cheek I guess.
I have owned 3 110's over the years. While I have loved them all, I would never delude myself into thinking they were well built or reliable. I am not sure I have ever taken a Defender overland where something didn't break. The amount of spare parts I would tote around with me finally convinced me to try something else.
The Defender is a fantastically designed truck. It's just put together with crap parts and with almost no attention to detail. Well.... it was built in the midlands after all ;)
@@pablomax3045 ....what is well built these days? I use a defender for my work/business, I agree on your points, I am on my third defender in 11 years, thankfully my present 61 plate has been kind to my pocket over the last two years, I do have a soft spot for them I guess...but you either love them or hate them?

We gotta get you guys a thermal pack for that camper! I full time in my FWC as well and it makes a huge difference to keep it cool when hot, warm when cold, and dark/quiet for sleeping. Cheers guys! Happy adventuring!
Hey
We did have the standard Arctic pack that comes with the FWC.
We actually didn't rate it though...
Recently we were offered a new custom insulation pack from a German company that specialises in pop top campers.
This stuff is the real deal and is waiting for us to collect in couple weeks.
We will then put it to the test in Mongolia 😊
Check out their Website,

Here's a link to their Instagram they have a few videos and pictures of FWCs decked out with the Blidimax insulation.

Crazy times!!! all in all you got it under control quick which is amazing, nicely done. get some good rest guys :-)
Thank's guys. yes the car was away from the middle of the road quite quickly. So that was good.
Land rover Is one of best off road car fantastic but you need skill aswell when you drive it off road and way you guys driving it its fabulous you are really doing hard work to explore different places 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤
Raja you are
Keep it up guys
Raja volo cars are good aswell on off road
Love myt 33 year old G class.. have never broke down on me ..ultra strong axles
A positive attitude will get you through any disaster. I've been stranded on the roadside too, Christmas Eve 2015. Friends from 100 miles away rescued me so I could finish the road trip to see my dad for Christmas.
Its a land rover which makes adventures more adventurous, legendary unreliability. Its really courageous n commendable that guys took such a humongous journey on land rover.
Glad you guys are okay..but you know this problem is common on Defenders, that's why in my country "Yemen" we stopped using them..we mostly use Toyota LC's or Nissan Patrol's..don't get me wrong,i still Love Defenders..
Great video..
Cheers from Yemen
Wesam Mansour snapping swivel balls is not common on any Land Rover in any country
There is a recall on the 2.2 l Pumas for this problem, the recall does not fix the fault it just adds a bracket to stop the front axle from dropping to the ground. Illegal to run spacers on your rims here in oz just run bigger rims with the correct offset and suspension lift. I have a 2013 HCPU 130.
Horrible to see your pride and joy creaking and groaning like that but it can take it, it’s a Land Rover. Greetings from Solihull!
Staying positive you are a part of the solution....well done guys. I love this Video.
You should check out Ronny Dahl. His 79 Series Land Cruiser has destroyed many parts on the trail, and that is a vehicle with at least $50K in aftermarket parts. All mechanical parts fail.
Material breaks can be repaired....Best thing is, in all this misery is that you guys are still in one piece !.
Hope you are back on the road soon....Waiting for the next video, cheers...
Thank you, the incident wasn't violent. the hard part was to think "what if...''
Wow. Even with spacers and the weight that was a pretty spectacular failure for not a very big hit.
Land Rovers are trash
Going out into the shit, lesson learned...bring a floor jack with wheels, and one with a skid plate for off road. Jack that thing up, use the handle to steer, ratchet strap it to the car. I've driven good distance on the wheels of a floor jack, baja racing will teach lots of lessons. Like bringing spare parts and knowing how to replace
Well said, I carry a trolly jack in my lannie. Easy job for jacking it with.
I did some crazy recoveries in Alaska but I can't remember one that hairy. More to do with the recovery vehicle. Great job!
Great Experience for you i can see the emotions with autohome guys are awesome keep trailing happy for you.. :)
The old straight front axles were indestructible but gave a stiff ride.
Basic maintenance... still need to do basic maintenance
Bloody Land Rovers. Great while they are going, the hard part is keeping them going. Some CZcams people create situations to keep their channels interesting. Your channel is real and you'll never have to create situations while you drive a Landy Lol. You're safe and well and that's the main thing. Keep your chins up, it's all an adventure...
@DAVID FORBES Thanks, I think Lol...
"... The hard part is keeping they going..." lol... And the other "...you'll never have to create blablablah...". It seems Landies are the only car than can break, right?
@@ViDiaz Tongue in cheek mate. Don't get too serious...
I am from Afghanistan from the specific place that you both have visited. I am enjoying watching your videos from USA. I Felt so much bad about that unexpected happened occurred to your car I wish if I was there I would helped you guys with fixing your car. Keep it up god bless you guys.
I enjoy your positive attitude. Inspirational to say the least.
Maybe this is failed because of the accident damage? I know the impact was on the other side but looking at the video the Land Rover was pushed sideways, that will put a lot of force on the swivel...
I’ve had my own defender for 18 years with oversize tyres and a bloody great big heavy duty PTO driven winch and all is still fine...swivels housing don’t just fail unless they’ve received a serious impact!
I’ll have a bet that after it’s repaired you’ll never have that problem again!
couldn't agree more, something else happened to that swivel head for it to fail like that.
1:45: Please don't stand near a loaded towing cable or strap.
Or step over it like she did. Madness.
Yeah that'd bum out the Instagram crowd 😂
He'll learn....the hard way.
Wow! Just stumbled across y’alls channel. So sorry to see the damage! We are huge believers that everything happens for a reason (and we only say it when something bad happens 😄) it could always have been worse. You guys have a great attitude! Can’t wait to catch up with your videos.
Welcome on the channel :) Steph has tattooed on her back " everything happens for a reason"

Luck there was a Toyota around to sort you out 🤙
That was a Mercedes? 12:41

So ironic haha
@@unholierhawk its 1:36
@Jett Jo johnson Maybe in USA, but few people buy American outside of America for a good reason...
I haven't seen the video fully but this can be common on older live axle vehicles. Toyota's do it, the 4 bolts at the bottom of the front hub birfield joint loosen from leaking grease seals in the hub and will give out.
Check them, clean them spotless dry with brake cleaner and oven cleaner and locktite them back in.
Don't trust mechanics to spot it, 4wds need much more closer attention than most people in garages even know to look for.
This coming from experience and numerous Lamdcruisers that each did over 500,000ks
I met a lot of nice people breaking down and fixing my bike with them I still keep in touch with a guy from Australia. . Good times
Another great episode guys! Very painful to see the LR with wheels facing in opposite directions, and being slide around!
You referenced the London to Singapore trip in the video, we met chap on Brittany Ferries on our way to St Malo who took an interest in our 110 and the winch that was on it.
He recalled to us his trip to Singapore in a Series 1, turns out he was Tim Slessor who was the author for book "First Overland". An amazing guy with some really interesting stories.
Keep them coming guys, Mr and Mrs B ! :-)

I'm pretty sure his S1 was doing the shows last year. Great to see it still on the road. AND they have restored one of the Oxford and Cambridge competing cars which went to the moon or some other such equivalent distance back in the day. And i recently read in a magazine that they've found the other one and that also is going to be sympathetically restored too. You wouldn't believe it possible that vehicles that had been through that so many years ago could still be with us! They should line them up alongside equally hard working aged Toyotas! Oh, wait a minute.........
What's your Gvm? You maybe over weight and adding too much stress too your vehicles components.
8 feet of snow...vehicle covered in icicles..."Good thing this didn't happen in winter".
Stay positive, good luck with the repair of the Landrover. ❤️👍✌️
You can't be positive when you own defender.
Sorry to see the damage guys, terrible stuff. But thankfully there’s always someone with a Toyota to help out (sorry couldn’t resist). Bad stuff happens, none of us can avoid it, but you are both so lucky really, for all the reasons you mentioned.
Crap guys, best of luck fixing it. I've never seen that happen before. Shouldn't be too hard a fix. Check the half shaft is ok still
I have never seen a landy swivel housing fail like that before
So I don't know if you've come across this in your travels, since it only really came to light for us (British Army) a few months back, but there has been a lot of Swivel Housings introduced into the parts supply chain that have failed like this, our entire fleet of Defenders were taken off of the road and every one checked to see if they had the bad parts installed. If you have a good Swivel Housing, you should see a dark line going around near to wear yours failed. If there is no signs of a line, you've got the bad part. Be worth checking the other side, just in case.
Hi
This is very interesting information! Do you have some further information or maybe some pictures of what to look for?
Best regards
Daniel
@@champ6702 I can see if we still have the safety bulletin in the workshop, if not, I'll try to throw something together.
Thank you so much for that info. We did actually find out about a batch of defective swivel ball housings that was around the time of our model.
I have inspected the other side and will check again with the advice you have given.
Thank you very much 😊

What a fantastic adventure! To be honest , it's the stuff that goes wrong that makes the adventure so right, well that's what I've found.
After reading the comments I've realised two things
1-Land Rovers are used by adventurers, on actual adventures and have been since 1948
2- Toyota's are driven around the city , between accessory shops by w....kers
Hi, I've only just come across you, nice setup you've got there. I recently repaired a Defender that did something similar, it sheared the flange off the axle casing, glad yours didn't. Aparrently there was a batch of casings that weren't welded right, might be worth checking yours. Look round the welds between the axle casing and the flange for the swivel ball. First sign is a leak if it's cracking. Don't want to see you stuck again.
lucky???? you could have nothing ,just getting by day to day pay check to pay check. you both are right ,you need to toughen up and laugh at such a simple little problem. fix it get back on the road be extremely grateful to do what others only dream of doing and be happy.
I have been using Land rovers whole my life ..honestly, I have never heard of the accident like that one nor experienced anything similar. How did it happen ?
Swivel usually doesn't come off that way, it must been broken for a long while.
Tiny metal fracture growing and eventually bursting...a big pothole probably.
@@henryrollins9177 Yes I can imagine that but there is likely to be some error in the quality of the material during production or especially if the equipment is upgraded with something optional.
@@PavleBalenovic Wheel spacers + oversize tires maybe?
@@henryrollins9177 Exactly.
Amazing guys, held on there sooo well, "I would of got real angry and had got a sledge to it 😂😂😁
Wow, impressed. Found ya right now. Impressed how relaxed you stayed. My bro has a Landi as well, broke down at the beginning of our last trip. 2 weeks of holydays ruined. My personal choise is Nissan, never let me down...but of course doesn't have that cult status.
I wouldn't trust my life on that welding repair...but anyway kudos to the old mechanic..!
@Jay & Alfie Indeed...! Trusting a Land Rover is insane to start with... So you might be right, they will face many more mechanical problems before that weld gives up...
I guess, there is no way to get the right part in that place of the globe. The closest site where you at least can try to search for some is capital of that country, and even then with no guaranteed results at all. Thus the welded part is going in to serve well for few mighty thousands of kilometers...
Owned a landrover all I did was put money into it, I now have a 4dr Rubicon much better.
I run a 37" x 14.5" x 15" tire doing extreme off roading. Its not so much the tires as it is matching components of equal strengths. Just subscribed and looking forward to the adventures
Love to see that how you guys handle the situation.....
Good spirits and courage

I've owned three Land Rovers and found them to be rather fragile. I would not buy one again.
you should have used a toyota landcruiser.
I think they should have but then they can not enjoy that 2.5 tons of sleeper (which tells clearly that they are not pro campers or expert off roaders but again can not blame them since they are on honeymoon and newbie ) !
Since Toyota can not be modified in to that and not to carry around these kind of weight !
They did not at all or just poorly calculated the load that they will be carrying and have to strengthen the leaf springs according to the load and axles plus change the coil springs for tough load !
Btw ! They are almost reaching 5 tons and no Toyota even their pickups are limited to 3.5 tons because of the rims and width of tires they offer with them !
@@mattprior8442 you probably need to look at lc70 series with diesel engine
Man, I’m a 4Runner guy, but I wept inside at this... 🙈 Glad no one was hurt and you could repair and continue. You’re good sports! Best of luck..👍🏼😎
Big tyres and rim spacers might speed the failure up but there is a factory recall on this issue. Trouble is the recall does not fix the problem it just adds a bracket to stop the front axle from hitting the ground after it breaks.
I've seen guys offroading with Defenders on 35" tires doing all sorts of crazy stuff, never seen a swivel break like that! What make was it? please don't say Britpart :-D
Is there a part II? Good luck on your amazing adventures :-)
Exactly what im wondering.
Could be ****part, I saw a few stickers in Newman's store that did the work, but I think Britpart don't make swivel joints do they?
Watch Ryder Yes they do :-) Even teflon coated ones!
@@ButchE30M3S14 Oh dear. I wouldn't want a critical part on my lannie that was BritPart.
Watch Ryder Exactly! Only the less critical stuff can be britpart lol
One day you`ll tell this to your children and laugh :)
(Commenting only 3 minutes into the video) The positivity is so real. I would've been pissed 🤣
The best part is that you kept yourself composed
should of bought a Toyota. then you too could rescue landrover drivers in their certain to come failure
I was traveling in our friends brand new Toyota Land Cruiser on the Mitchell highways in Perth after they collected us from the airport, the rear diff sized for a split second which nearly resulted in a serious accident!
Lucky for us something let go resulting in no drive and us on the side of the road…I think from memory it pushed something through the axle casing…anyway after having many other problems like using more oil than fuel and injector problems they went back to a Mazda which has been fine!
The one thing I have discovered on you tube about Toyota fans is how deluded they really are…honestly believing that the Toyota will never break down!

All these people saying in the comments'' it's a land rover, buy a toyota or a nissan''
This Could happing to any car
Thank you so much for that sensible comment.
I've been reading all the comments and just biting my tongue as I don't want to get involved in a silly argument.
We had almost the exact thing happen to my Toyota Landcruiser in Australia many years ago.
If you are using a 4x4 for what it's designed then things will always break. All we can do is regularly inspect and keep up on the maintenance.
Thanks again 😉
wrong! i dunno if you've ever pulled a landrover apart or a toyota landcruiser. landrovers are stupid and fragile. toyotas are well designed and bombproof. if you go into the aussie outback ...there's no landrovers only earlier nissan pathfinders (the later ones are shyte) and toyotas because your life can depend on the vehicles reliability.
i was looking at the failure a good welder could probably weld it back together for a temporary repair. anyway just my 10 cents sorry about negative comments about your vehicle this could happen to any truck best of luck
There isn't a single recorded occasion of this happening to a Landcruiser. It was a LR, garbage vehicles made by idiots in the West Midlands. Look what they did to Leyland, Rover, Austin ect ect. Wake up and smell the LC.
Loved my Land Rovers but they were always in the shop. Switched to Toyota a few years ago and havent had a problem since. The mechanic is right I would switch to a skinny tire I run 255 80 R17.
Glad no one is hurt... can't wait till next Thursday
