Jeep Cherokee XJ climbing the unthinkable - Carnage Canyon (HD)

  • A sick Jeep Cherokee climbing the exit on Carnage Canyon without a winch. Huge ledges on soft dirt made this something you have to see to believe.

    At first I liked this video... Yep, even though I'm a yota guy, I thought this was an awesome crawl. Then 5 guys started to tell the driver where to go, and in the end, when the XJ was about to tip, some guy was getting ready to brace themselves under it?! If it's going to tip, I don't want to be anywhere under it! Great job on the driver, but I'd hate to wheel with this group until they get more organized. The group I go with, each driver usually coordinates with 1 or 2 people to be their designated spotters, or if someone is already spotting, they stand back, only making suggestions to the spotter, not just randomly yelling at the driver. This can cause confusion, and can be dangerous. But that's just my $0.02

    As an off road lover, I like to watch videos about off road driving. I could not care less if it is a Jeep, an FJ, or a converted Prius. In this particular video, I was very surprised that the Cherokee made it through. That driver deserves the recognition. He did an incredible job. Excellent!
    PS: The only thing that expressions like "It is a Jeep thing" or FJ's are not off road vehicles", etc. show is immaturity and ignorance. When you realize that there is more than one good thing in the world and the driver has a very big input on the outcome and that FJ's, Hummers, X-Terras, and even Range Rovers are also great vehicles for off road, you will start showing signs that you are growing up. Different people appreciate different elements. Each vehicle has a combination of weaknesses and strengths.

    @flyier19  Před 11 lety +1

    It does have (selectable) ARB lockers front and rear. If possible, it helps to disengage the F/R locker for tight turns (which applies in this scenario). An open/open rig wouldn't make this trail.
    Thanks for watching. flyier19

    Nice driving and well built XJ. Gotta love all the comments about jeep better than toyota better than Hummer better than... shut up already. I could put $15,000 into a 1979 Subaru and crawl through Carnage. I think apples make better pies than oranges! Once you start modding a stock vehicle, it's a moot argument.

      +Josh Cline Eh, I think with Jeep it's a little different, as it's more of a cultural thing as well. Hummers and yotas can be absolutely great(lord knows I could make a go-kart do the same thing with enough money.) and especially modded.. But from my experience in those communities, it's just not the same as the cultural implications that Jeep has in America. Of course, as a former service member, that vehicle culture holds truer to me than before, but once again, that's just my pref. I've seen yotas that could destroy me on a trail, and mad respect to them. But I am a Jeep guy. Something about my JK just keeps me coming back for more.

    Yup that's why they call it Carnage, one of the best trails to watch people go through in person! I've got a good build on my tick but this is one of the only trails here I won't do, believe it or not this was one of the easier spots, your required to have a minimum of 35+" tires, front/rear lockers, spill kit, winch and roll cage recommend to even attempt it. The correct lines require body damage, I'm almost that build but no thanks I'll leave it to the trailered crawlers. Independence Trail is even more extreme.

    Last time I saw an XJ on the trail it was pulling out a stuck 4 Runner at Uwharrie. Sorry but the only way a Toyota can even be in the same league as the XJ is if you dump 10 grand into a solid axle swap and suspension upgrades, but that time, you could have 2 XJ's on full widths, both of which would out wheel the build Toyota. All a frame is is something else to get hung up on a rock. A strengthened unibody will outperform every time.
