Funny thing about this creature, it is called the beast of nurgle, and is actually a jolly creature, seeing everything smaller then it as a pet, and goes in for a big hug. What it does not know, however, is that its skin is absolutley fatal to any being, so it does not know the creature it hugs, is dying in agony. Ones this happens, it gets sad, and moves on to find a new pet to hug to death.

I actually had a dog as a child that did something similar. We had these hug rats that came into the yard, and the dog though they were his best buddies. He would play with them, which usually involved grabbing them and tossing them around. He didn't not understand that as they were much smaller than himself, they could not survive his rough play. He get confused and sad when they died and would go find another one.

Trailers are character-driven because they show us our faction leaders and their motives and agendas. When you play, however, you play as a whole faction, not just that one character. There is a lot of story in the game via different quests and missions. Ultimately you are the author of your hero's story. You are leading them in battles and making difficult decisions. Trailers show like an introduction to them but it is you (the player) who writes their legend throughout the campaign. These lords and heroes gain different traits that define their personalities. For example, you execute captives after battle your lord will get the executioner trait and enemies will be afraid of him. You are present in cities when new buildings are finished you get builder trait and new buildings are cheaper...etc. It is still a very character-driven game even tho it may not look like it :)

Tzeench’s forces may not seem like much, but there are few armies that are scarier in pure magical power, and they’re the true masters of the Winds of Magic.
Also, little fun note: that massive jagged structure in the second trailer at the end is the Brass Citadel, the dwelling of Khorne and illuminated high above it is the Blood God himself, the first true depiction of him in media.
The Ogres were originally meant to be the perfect species to completely resist the powers of Chaos as they were being designed by the Old Ones (The same beings that the Lizardmen worship and seek out and original owners of the world), but at the coming of the Great Cataclysm and the Collapse of the Polar gates (Portals the Old ones used for travel), The sudden arrival of Chaos throughout the ruined gates forced The Old Ones to flee and leave their ultimate creations unfinished, and so the Ogres began to develop as they are now, alongside many other events which affected them into the beings they are now.
The Ogre Kingdom lore is actually quite neat and worth looking into, although that can easily be said for every single Warhammer faction, as they’re isn’t a single bad or boring faction amongst the universe really!!! XD

Also the mutations and diseases his daemons and followers gain, they are super tanky, live a lot longer than usual and most feel no Pain.

Some context regarding the two playable human factions in the game:
Kislev: a pan-Slavic fantasy nation primarily inspired by Poland and Russia. They are the northeastern neighbors of the Empire of Man and directly border Chaos-worshipping factions. They're often the first line of defense against Chaos invasions from the north and as such are a people hardened by frequent conflict and death. They worship a pantheon of gods, the chief of which is Ursun (the bear god/ice god). Currently, there is political turmoil between Tzarina Katarin (ruler of Kislev & ice witch) and Kostaltyn, the leader of The Great Orthodoxy (Kislev's religious body) after the death of Katarin's father Tzar Boris.
Cathay: fantasy China, ruled by the Celestial Dragon Emperor, his wife (the Moon Dragon), and their children. It's the largest empire in the setting and until recently was only a minor footnote in the setting. We still don't know a lot about it as they've only just begun creating lore for it and its characters but the Empire is divided up between the dragon children, each of whom are associated with one of the major lores of magic. The two we see in the trailers are Miao Ying (the storm dragon) and her Brother Zhao Ming (the iron dragon). The Chaos god most interested in Cathay, and thus their biggest threat, is Tzeentch, as he sees their cultural and religious focus on harmony and order as a challenge.

I'am just going to leave this little info here:
    Legendary characters in these trailers:
    KISLEV LEGENDARY LORDS:
    TZARINA KATARIN:
Ascending to the throne and crown in the wake of her father’s bloody death fighting against the hordes of Chaos, Katarin has wasted no time cementing her grip upon Kislev. She is, in every way, a totalitarian ruler. She is stern and unflinching and will readily have rivals removed by agents of the crown if she cannot win them over with cold reason. The base of Katarin’s power, beyond hereditary right, is her extraordinary magical prowess. She is the greatest Ice Witch for generations, capable of magical feats more deadly and devastating than any other Ice Witch in Kislev.
    SUPREME PATRIARCH KOSTALTYN:
Kostaltyn is the Supreme Patriarch of the Ursunite Cult and as the highest ranking clergy in the nation, the de facto leader of the Grand Orthodoxy. With wild hair, wilder eyes, and wither-thin limbs, Kostaltyn is a ghoulish figure, robed in the finery of the resurgent Ursunite faith.
He is a howling, angry firebrand, screaming furious rhetoric at the enemy and urging the warriors around him to fight on with a fearful mixture of encouragement and threat. For he is himself fearless, able to recover from any wound quickly and thus inspire his flock to run pell-mell at foes that any sane person would flee!
With complete control of the faith that binds Kislev together, Kostaltyn whips his followers into a holy fervour. He despises the machinations of the Tzarina and her Ice Court and considers them usurpers and magic-wielding heretics.
    KHORNE LEGENDARY LORD:
    SKARBRAND:
The Bloodthirster Skarbrand was once the greatest of all Khorne’s Daemons. No other had piled so many skulls before the Skull Throne. One dark day, Skarbrand’s fierce pride grew hot and, blinded by rage, he smote the Blood God a mighty blow. Incandescent with wrath, Khorne cursed Skarbrand’s name and choked all personality from him, leaving only the bottomless rage that had caused him to attack. Since that fateful day, Skarbrand has wandered the mortal and immortal realms, drowning his sins in the blood of the slain - though he no longer has the wit to fully understand why.
    GRAND CATHAY LEGENDARY LORDS:
    MIAO YING, THE STORM DRAGON:
Miao Ying believes herself to be the strongest Dragon sibling, and lords her power and position of authority as protector of the Great Bastion over her brothers and sisters. Despite her earned arrogance, she is well-aware of the significance of the task laid at her feet to protect Grand Cathay from the hordes of Chaos to the North. The constant scheming of the mortal lords of Nan-Gau, her capital and unconquerable home, does not make it any easier.
    ZHAO MING, THE IRON DRAGON:
Ruler of the Western Provinces, the Iron Dragon is seen as a much more down-to-earth ruler and commander than his sister. Zhao Ming commands loyalty through comradeship, as well as his creation and use of powerful artifacts and magic items. He is one of the Empire’s premier alchemists and welcomes the same within his realm - much to the chagrin of some of his siblings.
Proximity to the Warpstone Desert and the Great Maw, still seeping with the destructive magic that created it, has led some to believe his mind is beginning to unravel. This would certainly explain some of the odd tendencies and decisions he makes, but it is still far from anything approaching insurrection or dangerous to Grand Cathay. While less favoured than his sister by the Celestial Dragon, their mother, the Moon Empress, has a soft spot for Zhao Ming.
    TZEENTCH LEGENDARY LORD:
    KAIROS FATEWEAVER:
Kairos can see things that are hidden even to Tzeentch. His right head sees possible futures as clear as day. No scheme is hidden from its sight and the infinite possibilities of tomorrow crystallise into irrefutable fact. Kairos’ left head sees the past without the petty colourations of perspective and bias. Valuable as this vision is, it comes with a heavy cost. Both of Kairos’ heads are blind to the present; he cannot see time as it passes - only events that are to come or whose time has already lapsed.
    OGRE KINGDOMS LEGENDARY LORDS:
    GREASUS GOLDTOOTH:
Tradelord Greasus Tribestealer Drakecrush Gatecrasher Hoardmaster Goldtooth the Shockingly Obese was one of many whelps sired by the infamous Gofg, Tyrant of the Goldtooth tribe. Like his brothers, Greasus grew up to become strong and fat. Unlike his brothers, he killed and ate his own father. As word spread of such prodigious deeds, many Tyrants decided to join the ruthless new leader of the Goldtooth tribe and soon, once again, the Ogre Kingdoms had an Overtyrant. These days, grown older, larger, louder and richer than ever, Goldtooth’s coffers fill faster than his Gnoblars can count. Yet Greasus’ rampant success has not diminished his greed, or his all-consuming desire to conquer everything he sees.
As the fattest lad around, Greasus rolls into battle on a custom-made, gnoblar-pushed cart stuffed with gold, gems, and plunder. The glory of being too rich to walk, writ large across the faces of his enemies. His iconic scepter is used equally to steer and smash skulls, while he is always chewing on a massive leg of meat, or equally using it to scratch himself. He is an inspiration and a hero to all Ogres, and a terror to fight on the battlefield.
    SKRAG THE SLAUGHTERER:
Skrag is the legendary Prophet of the Great Maw, also known as the Gore-Harvester and the Maw-that-Walks. Dragging his massive meat-pot behind him - attached to his back with a series of painful, tearing hooks and chains - Skrag hacks and rips at his enemies in a glorious blood-fuelled dedication to the Great Maw. In his wake, he leaves a trail of dismembered limbs and body parts, which it is the duty of his Gore-Gnoblars to retrieve and deposit into his cauldron.
His history is as sad as it is brutal, brought to his current sorry state by a Tyrant to whom he fed the wrong Gnoblar. However, the punishment only connected Skrag more to the Great Maw, making him one of the most powerful Gut Magic wielders in the world.
    NURGLE LEGENDARY LORD:
    KU’GATH PLAGUEFATHER:
Whilst other Great Unclean Ones work to spread the plagues already extant, Ku’gath, the Plaguefather, is fascinated by the breeding of new and virulent life. Ku’gath aims to one day breed a contagion that can infect the Gods themselves. The Plaguefather rides upon a massive palanquin bedecked with alchemical paraphernalia: vials full of seething powder, flasks of indescribable liquid and hessian sacks stuffed to bursting with Nurglings. This great bulk is held aloft by a carpet of straining Nurglings, and Ku’gath is attended on by countless others, all bred from the Plaguefather’s pox vats.
    SLAANESH LEGENDARY LORD:
    N’KARI:
N’Kari, the Arch-Temptor, is a notorious and ancient Keeper of Secrets that scours the immortal and mortal realms to experience the ultimate sensation and taste ecstasy in its purest form. Over recent millennia he has developed a hatred for the Elven twins of Ulthuan, and whatever his short-term goals, the next part of the plan will surely involve their eternal misery.

I'm so excited for this game, I'm preloading it on Steam right now, and I think it unlocks at midnight! Warhammer Total War games are somewhat character driven, the characters are the generals that lead your armies, and specialists called heroes that can join the battles and do a variety of espionage tactics on the campaign map. It's so much fun, I can't recommend it enough if you like strategy games.

Out of these new ones I like the Daemon Prince the best. I like all the chaos gods depending on the mood so a character whos faction can choose any and all is perfect. I also generally like the more traditional gargoyle look of the daemon princes in Warhammer so thats perfect.
What I'm really looking forward to is what they'll add in the future with DLCs. The daemons got some pretty cool upgrades in the Age of Sigmar reboot of the franchise so it would be really interesting to see if they'll embrace some of the more unique daemons that came from it, especially slaanesh who got Glutos Orscollion, a big chariot mini-palace drawn by big clawn-armed men with a gluttonous half daemon man on top, Slaanesh followers in general got a huge upgrade in Age of Sigmar with their faction "Hedonites of Slaanesh".

Because of course they won't add those weird insectoid skeletons or the golden space marine-like humans. But daemons aren't new to the age of sigmar, some like Sigvald changed but normal daemons in theory wouldn't be any different so I think they can get away with alot more of it.
They pretty much already have with the Keeper of Secrets, they didn't use to look like that in warhammer fantasy, they have the age of sigmar look in the game, so the doors are open.

26:00 With regards to your explanation, think less Risk and more chess where your Queen and King have names. You can get invested in specific units who have names, by naming the generic units, and by outfitting them with wargear and banners. I remember in Warhammer 2 I renamed a unit of Dwarf Rangers after they kept getting the drop on enemy Lords (army leaders), specifically wizards. They went from just some Rangers with axes I got on a whim to Ograk's Hunters (after a DND character of mine), who I would always use to take care of the accursed wizards. After a brutal battle left them dead, I would rename their successors in their honor as Ograk's Bearers. Or in another campaign, as Bretonnia, I named each leveled (as units can level-up) unit of knights after a properly Frankish name and their greatest kill (shouts out to Jean de Luc's Dragonslayers, a unit of Pegasus Knights who did the impossible). You can always play the game without this level of roleplay/attachment, but I've never enjoyed Total War as just a numbers game.

Your point that the trailers focus on character driven narrative vs mechanics based strategy is a good one! There is an incredible amount of character driven interaction that makes each faction/sub-faction feel unique. So in a sense it’s a bit of both! You should be somewhat invested in the faction leader and as you play it’s easy to grow attached to the individual units that survive and improve throughout each fight. The best campaigns generally double down on this. When you play as Broken-Axe, you’re quite literally cooking with Grom. Collecting ingredients and making meals is the goal, and cooking directly impacts how your army fights on the battlefield. so you’re always engaging with Grom and his cauldron mechanically and thus interacting with his character at the same time! A cool system for sure

    0:10 Total Warhammer. ;)
3:14 'Elsa' is Katarin, the Tzarina of Kislev. She had to step up at a very young age when her father, Boris (whose letter she is reading) died.
3:48 The dude is the advisor. Every game has had an npc to introduce and explain mechanics. This is him and he actually has a story arc that chronologically starts with the events of Warhammer 3, backwards to 2, then 1. The map he was standing over also confirmed the creation of a faction called Grand Cathay which has been mentioned in lore for a long time, but hasn't gotten an army until now.
6:09 The silhouette of Khorne overlooking the brass citadel. The gods themselves have never been depicted. I believe this is the closest we've gotten. (Veteran lore nerds, please check me)
8:12 The Balrog is Skarbrand, the mightiest Bloodthirster. He actually shouldn't be able to fly because Khorne yeeted him into the most epic face plant. His wings burned up in the process and his face got shredded too. They made sure he couldn't fly in-game though. :)
    8:38 Dragon-headed canons are awesome!
9:02 The war balloons fly with the aid of something called a Vermillion Warbird. I don't believe we've gotten any further explanations yet on what those are, but I like to think of them as a Moltres in a pokeball, holding a basket-full of snipers aloft.
10:27 Kairos Fateweaver. Within the infinite fortress, in the domain of Tzeentch is the Well of Eternity which could grant all the knowledge of infinity, but even Tzeentch can not be guaranteed to survive. So he chucked Kairos into the well to see what would happen and he came out knowing every spell in existence and having two heads. One sees the past, the other all the myriad possibilities of the future. But neither sees the present as it happens, so he's got crap melee stats.
10:36 Miao Ying is one of the dragon siblings who administrate Grand Cathay on behalf of their parents, the Dragon Emperor and the Moon Empress. She believes herself to be the most powerful of her siblings and is not shy about saying so. There are also fanfics. Lady D of RE8 did things to people and so did Miao Ying.
11:46 Zhao Ming is dragon-bro. He gets along with humans, moreso than his siblings. He's also the favorite of the Moon Empress, so he's canonically confirmed to be a mama's boy.
12:02 The dragon-blooded are descended directly from the Dragons who rule Grand Cathay. As such, they hold a very prestigious place in society. Even moreso if they turn out to have an affinity for magic.
14:02 The opening and closing statements of an Ogre debate regarding the merits of napping after a meal.
14:06 The maw-pit. When Ogres need room for more complex discussions.
14:18 Tradelord Greasus Tribestealer Drakecrush Gatecrasher Hoardmaster Goldtooth the Shockingly Obese, is the Overtyrant. He rules by the majesty of his deeds. ^
15:20 Maneaters are wanderers who tend to immerse themselves in the cultures they fight for. The pirate theme kinda gets across that they go where the wind takes them, but it would be hard to depict the full-range of potential outfits.
15:23 Skrag the Slaughterer was the respected Butcher (kinda like a shaman) of his tribe, until he accidentally cooked their tyrant's favorite Gnoblar (tiny goblins, seen amongst the Ogres here 14:40). In his rage, the tyrant ate Skrag's hands and ordered his cauldron attached to him via meat hooks in his back before exiling him. To survive, he had to jury-rig his cooking tools onto his stumps.
16:14 This is the advisor from 3:48. The voices are talking about a deal he made with Tzeentch to gain knowledge, but now he's screwed. His story will be developed throughout the campaign.
19:19 Kugath, Plaguefather was just a tiny nurgling who loved to perch on Papa Nurgle's shoulder. One day, he fell into his pot of poxes. He ends up drinking down all the potent disease stew and crawls out of the cauldron as a Great Unclean One, the most powerful type of Nurgle daemon. Now he's hellbent on creating the craziest plague that has ever been, just to please Nurgle and make up for 'wasting' all his disease brew. (Like if you love Papa Nurgle too)

In the Nurgle/Slaaanesh armies reveal trailer, the Exile which is the man in the trailer was in previous Warhammer I & II cinematics. But I believe he was killed in Warhammer II.
Turns out his benefactor Tzeentch resurrected him & given that book. In the trailer, it turns out Tzeentch sent him to Slaanesh's domain to meet up with the Architect (the crab armed one reaching for him at the end) give him/her said book.
Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the Exile he was also included in this deal. Fortunately for him Papa Nurgle not wanting an alliance between Tzeentch & Slaaanesh intervened saving him from the deal.

You said that those trailers were very character driven and to me this is all what warhammer is really about. You have dozens of fractions each of which having many named characters. You read about their stories in hundreds of books etc. So it is obvious that Total War developers went that way and presented it that way. I don't care what anyone says about the "traditional" Warhammer factions, Miao Ying's intro in her trailer is the most boss-ass moment of any of the Total War Warhammer trailers so far!

Thanks for reacting! I really liked these trailers, I think they were very efficient in giving you the feel of the cultures they displayed.
The reason they go so much into the Legendary Lords is that you have to pick one as your "main" general, and who you choose can have huge effects on your faction and armies. For example, one Legendary Lord might make Dragons drastically cheaper to buy and keep in your army. They'll also do the voice acting for your Diplomacy screen, and will have missions to gather their signature wargear, and their own campaign styles and goals.
The Daemon Prince is almost perfect, I wish they'd explained a little better that these start out as humans- that's the goal for any Chaos worshipper. In such a cruel, dangerous, violent and oppressive world, Chaos offers real rewards, NOW not in some possibly imagined afterlife, and greatest of all is that of immortality - Daemonhood.

The Chaos gods may be the most malevolent force in Warhammer but they really have a lot of facets to them.
*Khorne* may be a vicious, violent, and visceral psychopath, but he's also a being of martial honor weho despises treachery and deceit.
*Nurgal* is a disgusting hive of disease and decay but he also represents the cycle of life and death in nature and the acceptance of inevitability which is why all his followers have such big grins despite leaking out of every orifice- natural or otherwise.
*Tzeentch* is about as treacherous as they come but he also embodies the wisdom and cunning necessary to thwart betrayals, and as a symbol of change he's also one for progress as well.
*Slaanesh* doesn't know the meaning of the word "restraint" but the extreme contrast they provide brings meaning to those moments of pain and pleasure. Hurt is needed to highlight joy and Vice Versa.

First to start of awesome to see you react to the factions of Total War Warhammer 3 as this game has the most out there factions of them all.
Also to answer some things that was show but maybe not understood. "Elsa" is Tzarina Katarin, the ice queen. The current ruler of the human nation of Kislev. Think a combo of Russia and Poland.
And at the end of the trailer when we see a girl and a bear look at a hellish landscape so is that the brass citadel, the fortress of Khorn who we see in the sky.
The 2 headed vultures is Kiaros Faith Weaver, one of Tzeentch's most powerful lords of changes.
The white haired "priestess" is Miao Ying. She is the princess of the kingdom of Cathey. While the other dragon is her brother Zhao Ming.
The other factions are of course the demons of nurgle, slaneesh and chaos undivided.
The ogres are a pre order/ early adoptive DLC. Meaning people who pre order the game or pick it up a few weeks after the release get's the DLC for no additional cost. Which is honestly a good practice which I think more companies should do if they don't wane get away with the pre order bonus. Have them as an early adoption bonus too.
The game is a combo of real time strategy for the battles, but turned based when it comes to the overworld, city management, army movement, politics and more.
You also pick a faction and a Legendary Lord aka the characters, which are the ones that your narrative is around. But a cool thing is that you can get other legendary lords. For example if I play as Miao Ying and confederate the faction lead by Zhao Ming so will I have access to both dragon siblings.
Really looking forward to this game and the big massive mood so I can play my main faction the dark elves.
Also as one of you wane fight for Slaneesh ....... I would sleep with one open just in case.
Also a question, are you guys planning on reacting to the Rainbow Six Siege trailers that have been released since your reaction. As all of year 6 has past, all the animated trailers and you didn't react to Six Invitational 2021 and the upcoming (February 20th) 2022 cinematic ?

    You gotta love Daniel.
Already planned a multiplayer, since WHIII is the first to allow for 8-player campaigns, we are ~5 people starting a campaign, so the question who'll take what faction will be damn interesting. I personally would either go for Tzarina Katarin Bokha, the Ice Queen, or for Miao Ying, the Storm Dragon. But then, with 2 players it's fairly easy to be cooperative, even with strange faction combination, but with 5 (or more?) there'd be definitely more conflict around.
Chaos Undivided, Daniel, is maybe *the* most interesting faction, not because of the faction itself, but because of the newly created mechanic of "create your own hero", something that has been long asked for by fans of the series, or TW in general. Can only hope that this will be extended to other factions as well. It's cool and nice to play all these well-known heroes and villains of the Warhammer franchise, but in the end every fantasy game lives from what we create in them ourselves, from the roleplay if you will. And roleplay always starts with a unique and own character.
I've always voted for less playable legendary lords and heroes and more unique self-created heroes and villains, even if those are less powerful.

    Fun Fact time!
Tsarin Katarina is awesome as hell yeah, and you can play her OR her dad.
The Kislevit traitor of the second trailer can be killed inside the game tutorial.
Miao Ying (the women) and his little brother Xiao Ming are 2 of the SEVEN childrens of the dragon emperor, a litteral DRAGON GOD (older at the gods themselves). 2 are missing but the 5 others rules over the humans of Grand Cathay, each dragon children is governor of 1 province.
Miao Ying at the eldest daughter have the most important responsability, the protection of Northern province and his great bastion, the wall who block the Chaos Waste.
Chaos god Nurgle is NOT a bad guy. In fact he considered plagues and sickness like a wonderfull gift he give to everybody. He love everyone, friends or foes (except dwarves, too healthy to take his gifts), and plagues is his way to prove it. Even his followers doesn't consider him like a simple god, but a member of their family, calling him "grandpa Nurgle".

In regards to the daemon at 18:20... All four of the chaos gods have both a greater and lesser daemon type. That is a Keeper of Secrets, a greater daemon of Slaanesh. To be specific, that's N'kari, one of the greatest of the Keepers of Secrets in Warhammer fluff. The lesser daemons of Slaanesh are the Daemonettes. And yes, N'Kari has one mammary. That's because Slaanesh presents itself as male, female, or both, depending on its whims. So, its daemons (both greater and lesser) all have a single mammary on the right side. It sometimes gives its mortal champions one, too, as a sign of Slaanesh's favor. (And no, they're not hermaphrodites. As far as I know, N'Kari is male down below; daemonettes are, obviously, female.)

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
      @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames  Před 2 lety

Seems like Slaanesh wouldn’t have any secrets to keep. Isn’t it all about just giving in to desires and what not? 🤔 Or does the demon keep secrets of humans and that’s how Slaanesh knows how to twist them to her side?

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 Před 2 lety

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Probably the latter. The thing to keep in mind about Slaanesh is that it isn't just lust (although that is definitely ONE desire, and the one it's best known for). It's right there in one of the alternate titles: "The Lord of Excess". It is the god of obsession, the Master of Excess in All Things, from gluttony to lust to megalomania. The finest culinary delights, the most beautiful art, the most sensual clothing, the sound of wood crackling in a fire, the taste of freshly cut fingernails? Anything can be an obsession. Anyway, without typing a wall of text: a Keeper of Secrets knows what your secret obsession is (hence "Keeper of Secrets"), and how to make it happen.
