Your idea of toxic & mine are very different, however now that the game has been played do you still think that. He was talking smack & it's not to be taken personally. The trick is to come back at him in a fun way by talking yourself up or say something cheeky. I like his joke about the boyfriend, he clearly has a sense of humour. I suspect if you invited him into a game he'd be a good gaming buddy. I'd be surprised if he didn't know who you are.
