Looks good so far but i still wonder at a price from 7K, why nearly all higher priced AVRs have no Full Graphic Equalizer with 30 Bands or so with flexible Shelving optitions, Freq. Choice and 0,1 dB steps (something like a FabFilter Equalizer you use in Music Production). And the Menüs still always looks like they are from 1995.

Enthusiasts have been asking for parametric eq for years and they keep ignoring the request in favor of audessey with it‘s really bad 20 buck app, trying to upsell us to the 200 moneys pc program or now dirac. Futhermore I have never heard an audessey calibration that was optimal, some even dangerous to the speakers giving huge boosts to bass oder in crossover frequencies. I don‘t want to get upsold to expensive 3rd party software licence, just let us enthusiasts calibrate our own system as we please. Thank you

A beast indeed! The last time I upgraded was some years back to a Denon AVR5308ci and a Yamaha RXZ11, both very competent receivers. While I liked the Yamaha's versatility, with 11 channels, the Denon had fewer channels but sounded great just the same. I just recently stumbled upon the AVR-A1H, and it appears to be nothing less than spectacular, with 15 channels and FOUR additional subwoofer connections! Dare I think of an upgrade?... At what point is too much is really too much? While I am still determining the latter, I am confident that the A1H is: a). Not over the board in thinking and application, and b). Perhaps just what the proverbial doctor ordered! The bit about lacking legacy component connections is a bummer, though I think this will be missed only by old boomers like me. My last full home theater could play everything from laser disks, RCA vision, Beta/Betamax, VHS/SVHS, and DVD to Blu-ray/4K Blu-Ray. (Neither the Denon AVR 5308ci nor the Yamaha RX Z11 can process 4/8K video.) I think most young folks will do just fine without the legacy connectors, so long as turntables continue to be supported. (I miss the heyday of the LPs, back in the 1970s, and into the early part of the 1980s). If I do opt for this "beast," it will have to be when I once again have the space necessary for a large home theater. Thank you for a very competent and informative presentation, and it would be nice to see a follow-up with the "beast" earning its keep in a home theater setting that utilizes all of its capabilities, including the 15.4 channels!

    • @AudioAdvice

Thanks for point. It is true that you can find the 9038pro in some surround sound processors like the Anthem AVM90. However, for a surround sound receiver with this many channels of processing and amplification these DACs are very good and produce great sound. Obviously the 9038pro is a superb DAC. Hmm, well I mine as well ask this here, what kind of upgrade should I expect going from an integra 5.4 to a Denon A1H, for I will be doing this upgrade, assuming I don’t hear any bad news/reviews about this Denon Receiver, within the next week I think… for I ordered one of these units from a local retailer, who will come by, and set it up, correcting the sound, to hopefully make it sound great. I also am a fan tha😊t I actually found it locally, after going to the store, and being told, its not on the website, since this receiver is a special buy, and I don’t think the store wants to stock this receiver, where it will instead be coming from a local warehouse, where they will also have someone come out and make sure it is set up properly… but I just want to say I have never herd the receiver, since the store I was at won’t be stocking the receiver, so they won’t have a demo available, but I am hoping to be impressed, after reading reviews for the last year, about the various Denon receivers, specifically the 8500ha, and the a110, I think… I didn’t want to buy either of those models, since Denon’s 2.1 HDMI was still a question, while I understand this receiver won’t let the full 48 GBPS, pass through, I should be fine, since I don’t just game, this tv, is actually mainly their for movie watching….

@Audio Advice thank you for the reply. Pure Direct just cuts out any video processing so the screen is blank and just audio processing is involved. I'm curious about stereo bypass so I can use a separate DAC and AMP for my stereo speakers when listening to two channel but the AVR allows you to control volume with the AVR itself so the speakers stay the same volume. Many AVRs don't have this feature you see. Thank you

@@WesleyH85 How will you connect the DAC? There is no digital out. For situations like yours, and they are very common with our high performance customers, most people use a Preamp DAC, connect their two channel sources to it and connect the left and right audio outs of the AVR to an input on the preamp/DAC. Many preamp DAC's have a home theater bypass that makes this very simple and easy to control.

The R2C got a noticeable improvement after bi-amping. If you plan to add more R6 or R2 or R3 as rears you will be able to bi-amp them with this denon allowing you extract every last bit of sound quality from your kefs! Foorgetting the +5 year old es9018 dac technology (which you have commented on as being "still good"), I think if one is going to buy a 15 channel driven amp, one would use it for that (pointless using 7.1.4 system on a 15 channel amp) so, specs say 9 channels driven at 70% of rated (i think you quoted 105watts/channel averadge @ 8 ohm?).....
My question, at 15 channels driven, that must drop down to what, 50 watts per channel??????
Therefore, its virtually impossible to hear in a crowded bar over people speaking (thats what a noisey crowd sounds like in comparison to 50/channel over 15 channels, and one wouldnt drive the amp to its maximum output as it would fry eventually....
Soooo this is only good for its "processor" power, not having thx effects, one has to rely on whats left, and use it as a "pre amplifier" and only rca outputs.......
Soooooooo whats the point in buying this then, when one could buy a "pre amp" with 15 outputs (that actually have xlr output connections) and stilll have to buy 8 crown external amplifiers???..
Its a complete waste of money. Sorry an that.....
