What I miss from the 70s and 80s is the grittiness. It felt real back then. It was not a cookie cutter model of what should be an ideal community. It was the leftovers of the immigrant experience of the 1900's translated through time with its own particular flavor and feeling. I was just a kid but I remember the feeling so different from today's world.

It's just that you could connect with people in a more meaningful and sincere way....not so shallow and distant like now...you can thank tech
And don't get me wrong tech has its awesomeness but......people are now way too obsessed

that's because your generation is utterly bankrupt in every conceivable direction. there is nothing to hold on to in the present and no discernable future on the horizon. the only view you have is directly to the rear.

I was in NYC during the summer of 1977. Me and my family stayed with our relatives. I was seven y.o. then. First time I went to America. Had an unforgettable time. Great moments and scary ones too. Still remember the grip of fear Son of Sam had over the city and the moment everything suddenly went pitchblack during The Blackout.

@@jamesmack3314 That's a total generalization of the younger generation that's not even true. People still 100 percent interact with each other. And it's honestly not even a generation thing, it's a technology thing. People back then would have been the same way and even my 95 year old grandfather is glued to his phone using Facebook at pretty much all times. The younger members of the family usually have to tell him to get off of his phone at family events like he's a teenager 😂

It was the hottest summer that I can remember. I had loads of fun. I was out of school on vacation, I went to DC in June, I went to Panama, & we heard about the Blackout back home, we toured the city with friends of the family, the Son of Sam got caught, both Elvis & Groucho passed away. I was 8 at the time.

1977 NYC was a SPECIAL place and time. No other year had so much going on and changing weekly. The people had so much freedom back then. Sure double park, sure have a smoke, you';re 18 sure you can have a drink (It was legal back then). Wasn't so good if you worked for CON ED lol. I ran out of candles.

If im right Madonna arrived here in July 77 .. She later says 1979 but I think thats her getting a bit rusty she was meant to be 17 so its possible she arived in 1976 in the July and turned 18 in the August. However when Who's That Girl came out she stood outside Times Square and said q10 summers ago I arrived here with $35 and asked the taxi driver to drop me off in the middle of everything.. So he took her to Times Square and she said she was completly awestruck. I can totally understand that! I felt like that when i
    I visited London at 15.
