The road less travelled: Euronews visits the Lachin Corridor from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh

A small mountain road is at the heart of a simmering international dispute in the south Caucasus.
Azerbaijan claims it is used by Armenians to smuggle weapons and precious minerals. Armenia’s contention is that it is a vital supply route for humanitarian aid convoys that Azerbaijan is blocking at a customs post it opened in April 2023.
The so-called Lachin corridor is the only route from Armenia to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought two wars over the territory since the Soviet era, with an armistice brokered by Russia ending the most recent conflict in 2020.
Euronews' international correspondent Anelise Borges visited the Lachin corridor and spoke to people living on both sides of the mountain track.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have internationally recognized state borders. Why do Azerbaijani citizens of Armenian origin living in the Karabakh territory of Azerbaijan not accept the aid from Azerbaijan? After all, the nationalities living in the territory of each state are subject to the laws of that state. I understand that there are forces that do not allow the people living there to obey the laws of Azerbaijan. And as a result, ordinary people suffer.
Think of it this way, why should Armenians accept aid from the very country that created the blockade?
Because its their right of self determination and freedom and independance

@@hm2094 Karabagh is the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan. Armenians living there must live due to regulations of Azerbaijan. For about 30 years these territories were occupied by Armenia, and all local Azerbaijanis were killed and the rest were forced to leave their homeland. After war of 2020, Azerbaijan de occupied its territories and have a full right to defend its borders from occupant Armenia. Since 2020 Armenians with help of Russians delivered weapons through Lachin corridor from Armenia to Azerbaijani Karabagh, mined lands of Azerbaijan. Now, Azerbaijan offer another way for products and medicine delivery, but “hungry” Armenians refuse this offer. And it means that there is no hunger strike in Khankendi and other territories of Karabagh.

Not a very authentic take. You went to the corridor and said: Azeris brought us here to show that the border is active. However, you yourself only saw a few pitiful ICRC suvs pass. Is that enough for 120K people to survive? Surely not. Report on it as a blockade and siege/starvation warfare. If this was Kosovo and Serbia the conversation would be totally different

What blockade? Armenians use the Lachin checkpoint. They refuse to use the road via Aghdam. Only goes to prove there is no blockade from Azerbaijan’s side but political wrangling from armenian. Regarding Lachin border. Why you are surprised for simple Passport control check point between Armenia and Azerbaijan? Isn't a normal prosedure in all countries? And they drove out the local indigenous people to this day. The Armenians in the Caucasus, the khanates of the Azerbaijanis were brought by the Uruses. And they drove out the local indigenous people today on the sly. There are books by Glinka, Shavrov wrote the resettlement of Armenians. Armenians could not leave Karabakh to themselves and make a referendum. Because they were afraid that the whole world who knew would condemn. Where did the millions of peaceful inhabitants of Karabakh, Azerbaijanis, and their other families go?.
But after the Azerbaijanis returned their lands. The Azerbaijanis asked for peace for thirty years, the Armenians did not want and did not believe that they would return it. They signed a surrender, but still they shoot at peaceful Azerbaijanis and the uruses have been helping them for hundreds of years. They are dangerous to society and the world.
