  • Rumors around a sixth color have been around for decades, but would it really be a good idea?

If playing cards had a fifth suit:
    Copas,Espadas,Lunas,Oros,Bastos

Actually, Ambition is usually considered black, blue is usually more motivated by curiosity

I appreciate the genuine breakdown on the game philosophy and the implications of what would happen if a sixth color was added. Un-sets would be a fun way to play with this idea too. As far as what colors I am, I'm Grixis all the way, just like good old Nicol Bolas lol.

I think that would be awesome, really. Also, you look very passionate about Magic and the quality of the video was pretty good, keep it up.

They could also just publish an entire set with just purple in addition to the normal sets.

I didnt realize you *also* talked about magic the gathering. (also woohoo im viewer number 1000). Very thorough breakdown of the color pie/color phiolosophy of the game. Its also nice to see that your editing keeps improving as there were a few audio hiccups in the video. Great video. Great improvement. Keep it up.

I think my personality is Red-Green-White. With an emphasis on the green. Which is reflected in my play.
Worth noting that I came to the game thinking "ooh Red and Black are really cool" but ended up playing mostly green. In any game I play I usually go for resource supremacy. I have a hard time with black cause I have a hard time getting rid of cards I might want later and when I would look at blue cards I would often wonder "why does this cost so much?" or "what do I want this ability for?". Green is often much more simple.
In regards to a sixth type I think purple between blue and black is the perfect choice.
White and black are sort of the most directly opposed, with "protect vs sacrifice" and "community vs only oneself". With blue and red opposed with red as "act first think later" and blue "think first act later". And therefore I think the strengths of purple would be directly opposed to (or strangely mirroring) those of green. Perhaps to the point where some cards have an added cost of sacrificing your lands. And maybe instead of regular +1/+1 to your creatures, it gives regular -1/-1 to opponent creatures such as with that infect ability (not sue if I remember the name right, I'm kinda a casual player who hasn't had a lot of opportunities to play recently) or something along those lines.

magic has in fact added a 6th color in colorless/devoid giving colorless cards a very specific identity and their own mana symbol and other experiments such as pherixian mana and snow mana act similarly tho are less developed at the moment

Can you discuss an idea I have for the sixth one? Given that white's opposite is black, green's is red, that leaves for Blue to have Orange. What could Orange be in Magic? Well I believe it should be Desert or Dunes. It's philosophy is aquiring wealth and power the two words on the wheel being Avarice and Conquest. For how orange would work is working with the hand protecting it, summoning creatures from the deck or hand and then goes back.
    *Not sure
    *Belief not sure
*Common spells: Draw card, protect hand, treasure tokens
    *Common creatures: Assassin's and Gods

Personally, I would put it smack in the middle and have it be a jack of all trades color that gets a boost if you control a card of the color that normally has said effect or boosting the effects of cards of a certain color; with a theme of compromise, adaptation, and encouragement that doesn't like to work alone. I'm not sure what creatures would work well with it other than shapshifters, maybe scarecrows.

    Isn't colorless the 6th color?

magic has always had a sixth color, it just took until Oath of the Gatewatch for cards to be printed that had the symbol in their casting and activation costs. AND THEN LITERALLY NEVER AGAIN.

Purple would be a terrible choice for colourblind players as it's the colour most of us struggle with the most because it often looks the same as blue. The current use of red and green is less of a problem than that.

I’m colorblind and still play. I mean they have the symbols in the mana source so it’s okay for me. Red and green look identical to me, and I haven’t had much problems… well besides asking my friends what color a card is
