- New figures show that Vietnamese migrants now make up the single biggest group of people crossing the English Channel on small boats.
While the government hopes to deter these migrants with its Rwanda scheme, ITV News Correspondent Peter Smith spoke to one who says he had no choice but to work illegally in the UK - with criminal gangs threatening his family at home.

Houses in the UK often have problems with pluming too and due to weather have problems with mold as well. In Vietnam, you don't have to be very rich to rent a big new apartment in the city center with a gym and swimming pool ( around 1k dollars) in you UK you have to be very rich. Another point, DakLak is a very prosperous privince, they grow coffee there (I went to DakLak not as a tourist, but as a visitor to my close Vietnamese friend's family).

The area is mostly villages and small poor towns and has no chance of growth and improvement. I feel so confused watching this. Am I missing something? Have had many friends and acquaintances visit Vietnam for long periods of time and some move there recently. They say life is easy, cheap and enjoyable for locals and foreigners alike. Obviously the particular story shared about the gang is it's own unique issue that needs to be looked at but fleeing the country to resolve that? How does he even know if his family are safe if he’s left? I feel like this report didn’t really get to the bottom of anything?
The average salary for a Vietnamese are 250$, rent easily swallowed half of it, insurance only cover HALF of the expenses, and cost of surgeries are the same as the US

And I think they need to deal with the issue and be quite focused on their economy though. This is the thing.... When we had the 1997's financial crashes in the SE Asian areas.. and the various IMF fundings... They need to focus... Really.... but when they collapsed, that was bad. I’m Vietnamese too (though currently living in the US) and I’m curious about that. France has a much larger Vietnamese population than the UK (especially since France has the largest Vietnamese community in Europe) and the migrants can be easily assisted in by the French-Vietnamese community even though I know there is also a growing British-Vietnamese community.

I guess the only good thing is that it is now becoming impossible to dissemble and claim that everyone illegally entering is an asylum seeker. Unfortunately, that dissembling has seen the problem get far worse, the people smugglers and slavers get far richer, and people die, but maybe now whenever we have conversations on the topic and try to work out what to do, we can actually have that conversation. Personally, I hold the people who tried to represent people worried about this issue as mere racists, partly responsible for the increase in numbers that have happened as a result. That includes numbers of deaths.
