Walking in Shropshire: Exploring Clun

- Clun is the smallest town in Shropshire and the only one not to have railway line or station, or so I read It has a castle, a 14th century pack horse bridge and a host of fabulous historic houses. I walk around the town to explore it.

As a Shropshire Lad, I have to say I really enjoy your apparent passion for Shropshire. You’ve even brought to my attention some places I haven’t yet been to! Good stuff
That museum in such a small rural village, will be a real surprise to any visitor. It contains many local historical & agricultural artefacts, a collection of over 6,000 flints from Mesolithic period, Victorian smocks, uniforms and relics of 1st & 2nd World wars, as well as two silver maces of the Borough of Clun, dating back to the early Elizabethan period. A real gem of a place.
Two of the oldest Common Yews in the UK in the Churchyard as well Richard and I have been pulling Roman Pottery out of Mole Hills for years around the castle.
What a wonderful old town!!! Loved all the old architecture - the stone buildings especially! Thanks again for showing us a another great one & telling its history as you went!👍

A couple of years ago, we stayed at The Crown Inn, Newcastle near Clun on the B4368 over the little bridge and passed the castle, down country lanes. Lovely black and white inn. Unfortunately, a common name as we went to the wrong pub first not Clunton. We have met friends at the White Horse but never been in the Sun. Next time, maybe. Thank you.
Most enjoyable thank you. We enjoyed our visit to Clun for the first time this year. Clun was very quiet,but The Maltings Cafe gave us a very warm welcome and a fantastic breakfast. atb. snack
I found your channel recently when I was looking ideas for exploring Shropshire as soon as we get our freedom back - hopefully very soon. Really enjoying what you show us and tell us about the history of the places that you visit. We’re hopefully off to Ludlow soon and we will be visiting Clun while we are there. I have stayed in the YHA hostel, where a friend was the warden at the time. I have not vanished so far. Many thanks and keep up the good work.

My Morgan ancestors came from Clun. The last known member of the family (Cyril Darnell) died there in 2018.

Great video Richard, I was out photographing Aylesford Bridge in Kent last week which dates from the 13th century and looks remarkably similar to the Clun bridge, if you ever get out that way there is also an old convent called The Friary and Kit's Coty which is the remains of a burial chamber in a long barrow.

Wow, you saw where James Osborne lived! I remember watching "the Entertainer" both the movie and stage play, many,many years ago with Laurence Oliver as the lead. Sadly Osborne died young in 1993 of diabetes. Did you know he appeared in the movie "Flash Gordon"? Yeah, weird I know, maybe he needed the money to support his ex-wives? (he always seemed to be getting married!)
