- Some of craziest Cliff Burton's bass solos with tabs (live performances only). Something might be tabbed not very accurate, due to bad audio quality, lack of footage or good shot, wah-wah effect. This compilation includes Cliff's famous bass solos from 1982 to 1986, including live Metro 1983, Day on the Green 1984, and also Cliff's last solo before he tragically died. Precisely? Cliff? Every bass teacher would have butchered his ass with all the sloppyness that is going on in his solos.
@@BarelloSmith No one knows the name of anyone of those bass teachers widely lol
@@scottjkiriakoutsos932
That's completely besides the point. Cliff isn't famous for his precision or fast playing but because he was lucky enough to meet the right people (primarily Lars) who let him join a band that in turn was lucky enough to have some good managers who marketed them well.
His early death also played a major role in his fame, because of all members of Metallica he has the fewest writing credits. If it was Kirk and not Cliff who died, everyone nowadays would praise Kirk for being the greatest metal guitarist in history, since some of Metallica's most famous riffs (MoP, Enter Sandman, Creeping death, etc...) are his creation.
I am not saying that Cliff or Kirk are/were especially good or bad in what their are doing, they are both relatively good musicians for their genre and time, but Cliff is definitely not known for his precision, speed or even good tone for that matter, not even amongst famous bassists. I mean even both his successors played a hell of a lot faster and more precise than Cliff and neither of them would be especially famous if it wasn't for Metallica.
Fame does not equal skill, otherwise Sid Vicious would be one of the best Bassists in history and we all know that ain't true - I hope... xD
@@BarelloSmith with what sloppyness
You can see the influence classical music had on his writing
cliff burton was their bassist but really these solos prove he was basically a third guitarist
They've always referred to his style as "lead bass."
@@Astrodude55 its a genuinely underappreciated style that often gets overlooked as the quote on quote 'the way a guitar player who knows nothing about bass plays bass'
@@koba5152 I gotta agree. I am a bassist and I play this style a lot, it's way more fun than just playing root notes like most bassists do.
No, playing with bass is totally different, he uses things that are associated with the guitar, but distortion and wah wah were never exclusive for guitarists
@NuBz a lot of people’s, it comes from the stigma that distortion/fuzz can only come from a guitar which is pretty close minded if you ask me

So much talent wasted. He didn't even get to the height of his career.
*Gone, not Wasted, Jason Newsted: Wasted (Due to the band), Cliff: Gone
How the fuck was he "wasted"?
Jason's talent was wasted, Cliff is gone :(
AFJA was the only good Metallica stuff during his time the other albums were good but not very metallica thats how he was wasted
Are you talking about Jason? Cause nobody ask about it, still, AJFA and BA are absolut Metallica classics, Load an ReLoad are underrated as fuck and no, Jason was wasted cause he´s a great talented musican but he wasn´t allowed to writte and colaborate more than 3 songs from 51 songs he was featured in, that´s how he was wasted.
I miss him, he’s my idol and I look up to him so much

I can tell that his teaching background has something to do with that. Very impressive!
The best bassist in the history of metal, period!
Cliff Burton is now a bassist of a ghost band, with The Rev as the drummer, Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhodes with the guitar and Kurt Cobain as the vocalist.
Nah Dio the lead singer.
Kurts lack of vocal ability would kill that band. Bon scott on vocals
uzma shaheen To be fair that's one of the worst ghost bands lineup i've ever seen

He was the boss, you can't compare him with any other bass player, after his death Metallica went down hill and never would able to climb back to the top, a maestro, you'd never be forgotten Cliff, a total pleasure to watch you play.
This brings back many memories. Seeing Metallica in 82 Dallas TX @ Bronco Bowl when I was 13. It was Cliff Burton that inspired me to play bass. 36 years later ,I'm still playing . Much respect , RIP Cliff , see you on the other side
Holy shit, much respect man! When I saw this live version of Anesthesia from 1983 i didn't think anyone could tab this out, but you did it! Cliff'd be proud of ya, keep it up!

Listening to his last solo you can hear the enormous leap forward he made from just two years prior. Thar solo was so fucking far ahead of its time, and still is. Wow.

Cliff may have been sloppy. But he had emotion soul and feel when he played. Just listen to 1:37 and tell me that doesn’t make you feel something.

I was waiting for this all day
CLIFF BURTON was one in a million! He made such an impact and inspired tons of people to play bass. He died at 24 yet did so much! If he was alive today things would be different. I've never seen anyone hit harmonics while tapping bass strings before. He new way more about music than the other guys did at the time. CLIFF EM ALL
I suddenly really, really wish i had a bass guitar.
fucking awesome as always, man. Cheers!
3:37 - 4:00 my favourite
I think what I respected most about this guy is that he was a unique soloist, absolutely badass in so many ways, but could actually still "play the bass" like a bassist when needed. He didn't diddle and fiddledick during songs where it wasn't called for. He died way too soon. There was so much greatness yet to come out. A legend in every sense of the word.
No Haai friends? :)

Watching him on A SCREEN puts me in awe and absolute silence
Once in a while, a person changes the norms of how something should be done into how it can be done!
Long live his music!
cliffs last solos were amazing, shows ya what he still had in him to give to the world.. too bad there wasn't video of him doing those wild solos..like there is other shows...if I'm not mistaken, the last video I believe where he's soloing I think is the Roskilde festival from July 1986. the last video not audio. I'm not sure if I can say any other live vid is around after that date of him soloing. I'd give anything to watch cliffs solos near the end of his life.,.. also the intro to anesthesia like on the album track, he hardly ever played that intro live....I've heard maybe a handful of his solos where he played that amazing intro.... he threw some wah in it here which is cool
this... does put a smile on my face
CLIFF FOR EVERRRRRR

Why there's no video explaining the "Burtoninan Scales" ??
Though I haven't even lived to see the release of 4 studio albums yet, Cliff is still missed in my heart
I was hoping after 3:30, you would attempt to transcribe the part of the solo where it sounded like something came unplugged lol. I always wondered what happened there when I watched Cliff em All.
