I said this when Todd posted the review, but I feel like the song in the book is some kind of loungy club song in the vein of All That Jazz from CHICAGO. @@The_Wizard_Owlin_Celestialnaw watch todd in the shadows he did a long doc on it. L ron usually gets accredited to things he didnt do cuz scientology wants you to think he was more talented and successful than he was. He co wrote the songs with edgar and edgar did nearly all the work. L ron mainly gave him ideas and concepts and edgar did all the work. He gave him a manuscript of the books and edgar made an album with studio musicians and by mailing cassettes to hubbard and he would give suggestions. Thats really all his involvement and hubbard has a history of making extremely crappy music that sounds insanely bad such as the “computer synth soundtrack to his book” or the world most lo fi jazz album.
This is almost all edgar winter’s doing. He was working with the bonkers material of hubbard’s books and so any weird writing choices should be attributed to how weird and poorly written those books are.
Edgar winter is obviously a great musician and writer and singer so I don’t think that that is likely his fault any other than lack of proper material to build song lyrics off of.
I imagine the reason this album was buried and covered up and forgotten was because edgar likely wanted people to forget it and wanted to move on from scientology quietly, i didnt even know he was one. Its extremely obscure information. The only documentation of this album pre todd int he shadows is discogs.com edgar winter page and 80s news and interviews magaszines and such

Putting things in context , respectively the New Wave decade, in which all the sacred monsters of '70s had to make concessions to the trend (Genesis, Yes, Peter Gabriel, King Crimson etc), this is a great New Wave album, touched by the huge talent of Edgar Winter who is one of the few of the icons of the rock history who made the transition from the '60s to 2020s !!!

Besides, the songs are good enough to easily ignore the backstory behind them. And I would have to check the lyrics myself but if you didn't knew about the scientology thing or the novels, would you be bothered by them? They are cheesy and very basic but a lot of lyrics at the time were.

I have decided to progressively read through the mission earth series by buying the books all secondhand. I've only finished the first book and... wow I could write a book on this book. Admittedly it would be half the length of Mission Earth's first volume, but even with how innocent the first book is towards the topics the rest of the series gets into, having a 100 thousand word novel dedicated to what happens BEFORE Earth in a series where the Mission is one of Earth was... exhausting to get through.
And it only explains three songs on this album. Two of those songs come straight from the text. One of those songs is the opening track. Looks like Mission: Mission Earth is gonna be a long one.
