    Lyrically, one of my favorite songs. You are correct in that Pau reportedly wrote the song after a school friend said something to the effect that she didn’t understand why Pau was wasting her time practicing all the time, since their band would never amount to anything. As TWA often says, if you want to have a song written about you, do or say something to piss Pau off. 😎👍

      I try not to think about The Warning's lyrics too much, because when I do I end up with an essay 😅 That said, from the top of my head, I share your sentiment - ANIMOSITY has to be one of my favorite songs lyrically. As someone who enjoys doing creative writing occasionally I am in awe at how well the subject matter of the song is portrayed and how the speaker of the song is characterized. It is nothing short of inspiring.
      I do recall seeing the song inspiration reports about Pau's friend somewhere, but I don't remember where. On the bright side for any future transgressors, Pau can't write ANIMOSITY twice 😄

    Not sure how many catch this but in the bridge the lyric “This ship is going down” doesn’t necessarily have a nautical meaning despite being preceded by “Mayday, Mayday” which is a distress call.
    Ship likely refers to relationship and has a neat double meaning because the distress can be perceived literally or figuratively.

    • @bsdsuPASTA
      @bsdsuPASTA  Před 5 dny +3

      I remember reading that in a comment section somewhere. It is indeed a really neat double meaning, it makes me smirk and nod.
      I decided not to mention it in this video because "this ship is GOING down" indicates that it's happening right now, while the relationship as described in the song has already gone down a while ago. My guess is that, while it may have been intended as double meaning, it mostly refers to the emotional state of the speaker, since it's also surrounded by "lost inside my thoughts again" and a bunch of other lines filled with seething hatred. I thought going over all this would bloat the lyrics portion in the beginning which I wanted to keep as lean as possible, so I didn't add it.
      I'm glad you mentioned it, though! Now I got to talk about it without having it in the video 😄

      @@bsdsuPASTA Yes, Animosity is entirely about the singer/songwriter and her feelings toward an ex-friend. Maybe someone who was never a true friend. Fake funerals for phony friends perhaps?
      And the anger is as much about the way the broken relationship still remains in her thoughts, in the words "I can't let it go". She is trapped in a loop in her own mind, which increases the anger level further. The animosity must burn itself out in order to move on, must be reduced to ashes, but the fire is still raging.

    • @bsdsuPASTA
      @bsdsuPASTA  Před 4 dny +1

      @@steveboguslawski114 I like to consider the other side of the story as well. If you had a dear friend who you noticed has started to gradually fade away from your life, you would probably be concerned for the relationship as well. It's just, some people, especially when they're young, don't know how to properly communicate that fear, so they come off as mean and end up shooting the relationship in the head instead of saving it. I see no indication in the lyrics either way, so you can view the character of the friend in whatever way you like. They may indeed be a phony friend.
      Animosity can be very destructive for the person experiencing it and I think most of the lyrics show exactly that. We don't see the speaker of the song act on those feelings at all (aside from a fake smile, if you count that), so all the damage is internal, even if the hostile thoughts are aimed at someone else. I don't think engaging with the animosity is the healing move here. It won't burn out for as long as the speaker allows it to control them. They're not letting it burn out, they're stoking the fire (as can be extrapolated from the line "The anger has subsided, yet its shadow still remains" - engaging with that shadow is what fuels the fire again). Ironically, looking at the events from the other person's point of view and reasoning their actions is probably a good first step towards overcoming those feelings.
      If I were to spin tales from small nuggets in the lyrics, "fake funerals for ALL my friends" might suggest that what actually drives the animosity is self-pity and pain caused by the speaker's current social situation (presumably without friends). The brain's self defense mechanisms engage and instead of looking inwards for reasons and solutions, which could be destructive for the ego, they handpick the worst of the "break ups" and channel all the emotions towards that former friend in the form of animosity.
      I suppose this is why people say a song can be whatever you want it to be 😄

      @@bsdsuPASTA Excellent points. I didn't mention it, but the final line of the pre-chorus is:
      No, I won't let it go
      Which suggests that the writer is aware she is allowing the situation to persist and must ultimately come to terms with it. If she won't let it go animosity will continue to shadow her.
      This is part of what elevates a song beyond mere whining, which is what it could have been with a less skilled writer.

    • @bsdsuPASTA

      @@steveboguslawski114 I absolutely agree!
      The real beauty of this song for me is how it portrays the animosity towards someone else and at the same time it shows the destructive aftermath within the speaker as well. It's a more complete representation of the human condition and it's 👌👍👍
      "No, I won't let it go" with the added context of acknowledging the damage caused to the self in lines such as "[...] the eroding of my mind," "it's killing me again" and "living hollow to pretend" do indicate that on some level the speaker is aware of what is happening. That said, they may only see it as justification for self-righteousness, because being right and someone else being wrong, especially when we are being overly emotional and we can blame other(s) for our suffering, feels good. That whole awareness might be happening on an unconscious level only (the unconscious mind evokes emotions to communicate with the conscious mind, but even though we feel those emotions we don't always understand why we feel them or what to do with them, and yet they still help shape our thoughts and actions, despite of our not understanding them. I hope that makes sense.).
      I'd like to think the speaker knows. If they got to the point at the bridge, surely they understand that they have to fix the holes in the ship that is their mind to stop from sinking, rather than try to evoke karmic justice to punish the "actual wrongdoer" and expect that to somehow fix the ship (which, as nonsensical as it sounds, us people do a lot). But, then again, the bridge also says "bury yourself and remember me when you're alone" after the more self-aware lines, and it's then followed by the venom-soaked chorus, so I'm not sure.
      We can call it an unhappy ending that serves as a warning (by The Warning ⚡) for listeners to be more aware of their internal state and how it affects them 🤞

    ⚡ As you get to know The Warning more you discover that they have several styles of rock but they are invariably pure rock!!
    And I continue to reaffirm my humble but very own opinion that with its structure, its cuts, transitions, rhythm changes, modulations, choruses, pre-choruses, drum attacks, its endings…
    All of this is masterful.
    The great beauty of their art is in its simplicity but all of this always seems to be at the right time and in the right way, bordering on perfection and predominating sophistication.
    There could always be other options, but the ones they chose seem to be the exact ones to create a masterpiece of art.
    Also impregnating everything with a natural touch of inevitable sensuality that only adds improvement and with the feeling, sensitivity and passion of their blood, race and culture.
    Each of its pieces can be very different, but always with all the TW flavor.
    It’s very clear that these sisters have no limits.
    They have that gift that only belongs to the geniuses that appear among us every certain period of time.
    This is the youngest veteran band in the rock world.
    Without forgetting that there are only three of them, yes, but three true geniuses in their field.
    Melodically they are the best, without a doubt.
    They are the queens of the hook, the riff, the key changes, the contagious rhythms, the catchy melodies, the sublime voices, the unbeatable harmonies and the ambiguous but deep and powerful messages.
    And this happens song after song… INCREDIBLE!!
    The new masters of rock:
    The warning.
    For now I'm subscribing to your channel because I hope to see many reactions from you to my favorite band of all time.

      Indeed!
      I think the way they change things up between songs while still remaining rock at heart is what made me obsessed with The Warning's work. How can I get bored listening to their music if each song feels different?
      I also appreciate their approach to creating - doing what's right for the art. This should always be the North Star. Sometimes less is more, and sometimes you want more. Either way, they do what's right for the song and sounds great 👌
      I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the new album. I'm excited to find out what they've cooked for us this time ❤
      Speaking of the new album, if you're looking for more reactions I think I'll be able to help with that :)

    This is an outstanding song! No matter how many times I hear it, it never gets old.
    In that line about karma, I always hear Dany sing "If karma doesn't *hate* you then I will". I think that's more in line with the title and subject matter of the song, rather than "hit" which implies a resort to violence -- which is not what the song is about.

    • @bsdsuPASTA
      @bsdsuPASTA  Před 5 dny +2

      I agree that physical violence is not in line with the spirit of the song. I view the karma line similarly to how I view the line "A bullet to the head" - as a primal impulse that goes unsatisfied.
      The karma line depicts anger and hatred so intense they push the speaker of the song to act, but instead, the speaker pushes those emotions down and stokes the fire of their animosity with them. It's the kind of impulse that leads to crimes of passion if acted upon and I personally think, if viewed that way rather than as an intent for actual violence, it enhances the feeling of the song.
