I think it’s a great idea setting aside 20 acres, and a tractor for your kids to run as an agribusiness. Great way to learn and prep for eventually running the family business. Even if they decide they don’t want to be farmers, they will learn how to budget their time. Farming work is never finished.
unfortunately they don't have the important safety things, that younger people don't think about ......Having done this sort of thing the last forty years , I have grown to appreciate the tractor immediately tuning off once the seat has dislodged the rider......other than the safety factor I totally agree with this learning experience Tony
I almost died laughing on the hook for your purse! Farmers and their ilk are a lot like old Navy guys... never stop with the shenanigan's, it keeps you young.
I LOVE the idea of having the old planter for the kids to farm with. Learning experience. Plus, I bet non of us would complain about anything ever again if we had to farm a few days a year with horses.
As a non-farmer all I can say is “Much respect for farmers.” Unbelievable how many things you have to be good at to run the operation. Enjoyable when your kids are included in the work and watching how they participate. Great work ethic.
My late Uncle Art had 13 living children. 1 went into the Army and returned to Floridia to become the state leader rug supplier. The other children were farmers - milk cows and feed. Art was a large producer of Milk and Cream. His brother drove the milk trucks. The kids and Dad formed a Co-Op and all helped each other for equipment. They rotated on who buys what when. So no one had old gear unless as a utility use. Now all retired and the youngest is still working I remember her as a baby.
Thank God for farmers and you setting your children up to run and manage they're own operation is an example of the great people in this beautiful country we live in. Best of wishes for a successful and profitable season Zack.
Your content has always been top notch that’s why I subscribe but the idea of the kids running the old equipment may be your best idea yet! I can’t wait to see it!! I always enjoy watching you and your dad working together too. I miss that with my dad and grandpa and it brings a lot of memories for me.
thanks to you, I have now gained interest in farming with my grandpa again. Thank you for everything you do and for everyone else. Im sure I'm not the only one, but you have influenced so many people. Keep it up!!!!
@@admrangeron a small job like that yelling is preferable to having to have a hand free to key up a radio lol But yes, needed more tag lines and preparation for a windy day...
Zach I think setting the land aside for your kids is great, if you are gonna do it maybe also get them a disc for the Moline so they have to learn tillage on the old tractor also
Zach its a hodge podge day good repair hydrolic line crain got the two legs down great job some are replanting patches Laura and Grant Nebraska to much water short time thanks for sharing and your time Great job editing and video Becky.
Hahaha... Was thinking the same thing about the music. Made me think of Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the editors were sacked and replaced by 40 Ecuadorian Llamas. That or the farm is about 1200 miles further south by southwest than I thought it was. 🤣
Really glad to see the girls Anna and Gidge out and about. Zack's dad sure the neck looks like an ex NFL lineman. Holy smokes, what a big guy. He reminds me of a buddy of mine, ex college football star, huge as can be and a soft spoken heck of a nice guy. Cheers Johnson Family
I often smile when someone says they will pull a huge, heavy piece of farm equipment with a pickup. I think, “Good heavens, it isn’t the pulling, it’s the stopping that counts.” Just like the automakers touting towing capacity, and not even hint at stopping ability. In the late ‘50s my dad drove a fair distance pulling a rented trailer (not U-Haul and no brakes) to pick up our new barn cleaner , heavy chain and gear box with a 5 hp electric motor. There was a big downhill on the way home. About halfway down he realized that he couldn’t stop at the intersection at the bottom. He laid on the horn and swept through without hitting anyone. Brakes smoking. Stopping ability was important to me thereafter.
I am really amazed of how well you and your dad are working together. No nagging comments or getting mad at each other, no conflicts whatsoever...on camera anyways. :) My son is 21 now and sometimes or lots of time unfortunately I catch my self getting loud at him when he doesn't understand something or did something wrong. Shows me I have to take more chill pills for sure. We are honey farmers btw. Wish you and your family a happy and good season from one farmer to another.
Well shot I didn’t want to write a book but on letting the kiddo have his own crop next year are there anyway that you could rent him that planter and tractor this year and when the crop is harvested take the money out of it and if he has some left over make them put into there own planter seeds fert and rentals a lot of us had help starting out I didn’t in a lot of ways but I had a lot of people offer help but the biggest help to me was the knowledge they gave me that just my two cents but you know what best for the family and the farm but most of all keep everybody safe and keep the good videos coming
Use that four row for planting sweet corn. Definitely get the kids to use it. Maybe more than corn. Whatever other vegetable crops that grow best in your area.
Thanks for another great video Zach and Becky. It was interesting and informative and entertaining. Wow. The old grain dryer is sold and taken apart and on the ground waiting for the new owner. Done deal. Glad you got it sold. Believe you said the new owner is coming with axles to move the old dryer in two pieces. Will be interesting seeing it moved. New dryer is going up-yeah. Will be a great new addition to the farm operation. Good luck finding that old planter you want for the moline tractor. If I had one you could have it for the kids project. Great idea to let them have some ground to grow and harvest a crop and see how it all works. Hopefully this will be an educational experience for them. Hopefully they end up with a profit. Great learning experience. Busy time doing this and that while waiting for the ground to dry for planting. Anxious to plant I know. Been there done that before. Anxious to see your new dryer setup!!!!!! Like the new shirt with the dogs on it. Will be a good seller I bet. Glad both dogs are doing better now!!!!!!! About it I guess. You all take care and be safe. Thanks for everything Zach and Becky. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
You forgot "elevens - 11am" or thereabouts - a drink (usually coffee) and tea in the field about 4-5pm -tea, coffee or pop to drink plus sandwiches and cake or biscuits to keep you going till supper time.
The thing about the Moline and the older stuff like that, is it will work if the stuff hits the fan. Hate to be gloom and doom, but it is one banana peel slip from where we are right now. A lot of farmers are restoring the old stuff to have on hand. If nothing else it is great for parades.

Start the old square body, please
Why wouldn't they want to be farmers? It's genetically in them! I think the hard part will be going from the great big stuff to the small stuff.

I LOVE the idea of having the old planter for the kids to farm with. Learning experience. Plus, I bet non of us would complain about anything ever again if we had to farm a few days a year with horses.

Zach, climbing into the hard to get to places is what Onyx is for, that's why we had our kids and if they don't, they're out of the will. 😁
Your pops not getting the 2024 reference but then adding “I think it’ll go both ways” is just amazing
I enjoy your dad. I like seeing and hearing from him also.
Brings back memories of the row 12 error code!!! Thanks for the great videos!!
Good to see both dogs in good shape. Always makes me happy seeing them.
You are the best for the homeschooling comment about planting and farming with Minnie tractor. Keep rocking!
I see what you did there!! 2024 Dad joke!! Message received!! 😂😂
Glad to see y’all got some Sun ☀️… Dogs look like they’re getting back to normal! All the best for the rest of the Season!
The look your dad gave you when you asked which way the air flows was priceless!

Glad to see you have sold the dryer looking forward to see the new one been go up keep the videos coming Zak John from England

Your videos are a lot better than others Farm Videos !!!
6:30 in is priceless.. Love the sense of humor.
The comment from dad "it'll go both ways." Needs to make a highlight reel somwhere!
The nonchalant "Oh shit" at the grain dryer swinging around made me laugh
7:30 was a big "Oh s***" moment lol
Yep
My butt puckered just seeing that thing sway into the bin!
Not the best trained crane crew I've seen. How do they not have radios to communicate and have to resort to yelling?

Luv the channel. Cool to hear you say supper. That's some old school talkin by a young man.
Breakfast, dinner, supper. My wife and I still debate that 😂
@@MillennialFarmer that how we call it at my house!
Breakfast, lunch/dinner, supper.
Depending on what type a meal at noon was served. Something quick was lunch, more prep work was dinner.
@@marylee6153correct, but a real fancy meal at night is a dinner.

Zacks dad oftentimes looks at Zack like “ Who’s kid are you, they raised an idiot” 😂
All fathers do that they don’t want the kids to get too upity. Love how Zack treats his father like he’s the unquestioned boss.
