It’s been 37 years since I walked through the mall good memories
I don't know whether to thank you or condemn you. This was not so much a trip down memory lane, more a horror story. Irvine has changed so much in the last decade. I have been away for longer but keep returning as I have family in the town. The state of the buildings is shocking. Looks like at least half are closed. Some my favourites are long gone, some are derelict. What a shame, this was a jewel in our crown but no more I fear. As soon as it was made a new town and lost its Royal Borough status it changed. I remeber working on the Mall when it was near completion, worked on Bourtreehill and Broomlands when they were building it. So many good memories and now most of those are lost because the places have gone too. I fear successive coucils and authorities have not helped, in fact they have destroyed a wonderful town. thanks for sharing the good and the bad, for me its more bad than good though. Hope it can recover some day.
One small correction mate, Irvine didn't lose it's Royal Burgh status because it became a new town.
It was designated as a new town in 1966, the 5th and last Scottish new town development, to handle overflow from Glasgow, but it didn't "lose" it's Royal Burgh status until 1975 when the title "Royal Burgh" was abolished entirely through an act of the House of Lords.
Despite this act, Royal Burgh's often keep the title, I grew up through the 90's and we were always taught that Irvine was a Royal Burgh.
It should also be noted, Irvine stopped being a New Town on December 31st 1996, North Ayrshire Council has had full planning control ever since, so you can put the blame where it belongs - The council that's had control of this town with no oversight for the past 27 years

You must be using a type of steadycam gadget for this, there is not even any vibration visible when crossing over rough areas. It is almost like the camera is floating.
