    Wow, what an amazing voice!! I hope she works professionally.
    I have dealt with bipolar and anxiety since age 15 in 1981. I've done it all. Even placebos. Trintellix has worked best. I loved pushing myself to go up and sing in front of an audience. I'm good. We need all our moods, even the ugly ones sometimes, but don't torture yourself.
    If you've got 8-10 depression absolutely get help. If your mania has made you an absolute wreck, get help. You could have serotonin poisoning, or maybe even be sodium depleted. It's not a sign of weakness to try things and they not work. It's a sign of weakness to not try period. I got a fortune cookie the other day that said, " It takes courage to live a life. Any life."

      Good advice IMO 😊
      BTW I suffer from neither, but I can imagine that it's difficult, and sometimes very difficult to ask for help etc....
      So well done you.

    I miss feeling like there's magic in the world. I used to be 25 and optimistic about the future, now I'm 41, cynical and bitter. I just want something amazing to happen.

      That's the burden of being a millennial. lol. There is a meme I love of a guy casually eating a sandwich while the city burns behind him from a meteor shower and the picture says, "Millennials chilling watching their 173rd historical event in real time wondering if they should make their car payment." 🤣🤣🤣

    In an earlier comment I meant that if chronically shy people could get too realise that they are not that important to others (not in a bad way) and people are just to self absorbed to be paying lots of attention to you.
    Try to remember that if possible, and it might help?

    I really hope that as im watching this that the people react positively when they are told it's placebo. Because they should, because they have done it all by themselves and they don't need anything, just a change of mind and outlook. Well done everyone

    I wonder if the "fight scene" might get the lad in trouble in the future? I hope not. It might give him a false sense of confidence, and in real life pub fights can be alot worse than that and very nasty.

    I found the first half of the program to be a lot more interesting and insightful than the second bit/religion stuff.
    I find it absolutely fascinating and astonishing that people can be coaxed/manipulated and made to overcome a fear/addiction or whatever it made be through that individual believing they are doing so as a direct effect of them taking what turns out to be some bogus medication!!
    I also think in the end you end up treading this thin line because lets say Derren Browns simulation/experiment was to be replicated in real life on unsuspecting members of the public. Upon a person finding out they've been duped things could very quickly go the wrong way and there problems could be significantly worse than they were before. What I'm trying to say is that yes ethically you would feel that letting participants know what had really been going on was the right thing to do. But equally on the other hand if you genuinely feel like you've changed peoples lives for the better maybe there's an argument to be had where why ruin someones progress and set them back just because it's unfair to keep someone in the dark?

    • @clareowens2597
      @clareowens2597 Před měsícem +1

      Yeah I lost some respect for him and was pretty sad that he is an atheist. I feel so sorry for all those people.

    • @eyesopen66
      @eyesopen66 Před 28 dny +1

      But surely upon realising that the change that has occurred was done all by themselves and not medication is a good thing? They must surely realise that it's them that has done it and can keep it up? Why would it set them back? Please
      (BTW I'm not sticking up for DB, because although I really like most of his stuff, some is dubious and dark IMO)

      Do you know as a teenager and adolescent Derren was a Christian. But whilst at University he stopped believing and became an atheist. It's such a shame but I really believe that people like DB who are very clever and gifted can become full of intellectual pride.
      Also his work is definitely contrary to Christian teaching.
      It's close to "magic" and "witchcraft" and having Your will be done over another's, IMO anyway?

  • @eyesopen66
    @eyesopen66 Před 28 dny +1

    IMO shyness, social anxiety type fear's are somewhat about SELF OBSESSION. Perhaps I'm completely wrong, but it's just my opinion and observation. What do people think, please?

    I wonder what the actual percentage of people that aren't effected by the placebo effect is? I'll go out on a limb and say it isn't much- 10% or less. I also wonder why it isn't used more in medicine and psychology. Clearly it's truely powerful.
    God as placebo is positively brilliant. It explains much I have never understood about religion. Thank you Derren. 😊🌻

      It's the argument of ethics. If we have a medicine that is proven to treat something should doctors be giving fake medicine instead.

    DB is correct insofar as "we are hardwired to believe" and I'd add also to Worship? But not because of what DB believes, but because we have a creator and we're hardwired to worship him. We need connection to God, to live our best lives IMO. That creator?
    Is Jesus Christ Our Lord and saviour!

    I'm not an EV sceptic but there's a real issue that a huge percentage of people in the population can't home charge and the public charging networks aren't currently an easy solution for these people. This will affect used prices because a large proportion of people won't consider a used EV until this is fixed. 2030 is looking awfully close. Many EVs are being heavily discounted to the point where they cost a similar amount to a petrol car
