  • In this video, we will understand what is Subject Verb Agreement :
Subject Verb Agreement says In any sentence, Singular Subject must have a Singular Verb and Plural Subject must have Plural Verb.
Then, we introduced ten new rules of cases of subject-verb agreement.
    Which are,
Rule 1.: In case of Collective Noun in the sentence,
we use a singular verb when the members of the group are acting together as a single unit.
and a plural verb when the members of the group are acting separately and not as a single unit.
Rule 2.: If a gerund or an infinitive comes as a subject, the verb will always be singular.
Rule 3.: Error of Proximity, Here, the verb is made to agree in number with a noun associated with it
instead of with its proper subject.
Rule 4.: When the prepositional phrases separate the subjects from the verbs, they do not affect the verbs.
Rule 5.: In sentences beginning with here or there, the singular verb is used when the singular subject is there in the sentence
and a plural verb is used when the plural subject is there in the sentence.
Rule 6.: Use a singular verb with distances, periods of time, sums of money, etc., when considered as a unit.
Rule 7.: When 'None' is used with a prepositional phrase starting with of, the subject can be both plural and singular.
    Rule 8.: Two nouns qualified by each or every, even though connected by and, require a singular verb;
    Rule 9.: Remember two cases in case of words Most/Most of/ All/ All of/ A lot of/ Some of/ in a sentence,
If Countable Noun is used than Plural verb will come.
If Uncountable Noun is used than Singular Verb will come.
Rule 10.:Words with suffix body/thing/one will carry singular verb.

      Couple (collective noun):
If the collective noun refers to the group as a unit, then it takes a singular verb. If it refers to the individuals in the group or the parts that make up the group, then the verb should be plural. In British English, it is more common for collective nouns to function as "plurals" in all instances.
The couple are to get married. ( referring individuals in the group of two)
The couple has two kids. ( couple as a single unit)

When referring to a couple, you should use "couple is" if you are considering them as a single unit. For example, "The couple is going on a vacation." However, if you want to emphasize the two individuals in the pair, you can use "couple are." For instance, "The couple are celebrating their anniversary separately this year."
