đUPDATE 1: Apologies for 8:30-8:50 audio issue - not sure what happened there! But I say GadgetsBoy experienced the same overheating issues, and my Hero 9 didn't shut down in same tests
đUPDATE 2: New Hero 10 software released today (H21.01.01.10.00), tested it - same overheating issues :(
Maybe audio recording issue too?!
8:31 minute, there is no sound ???!!!! Really go pro?
GoPro trying to silence you! đ
Looks way too fake/software
So wonder what the camera be like in hotter country overheating more I guess. Want to bring a camera to Philippines boracay but not sure which one to go with
This is the only review to talk about *GoProâs Overheating* issues. Thank You
Yeah my GoPro9 overheats when it's plugged into my computer
@@jimmydore2141 thatâs normal for GoPro when they are charging. The issue is when your recording and the camera shutdown because itâs too hot. Happens a lot with my Hero 8.
I wouldn't be surprised that they update the firmware to underclock the chip.
Your channel is pretty overheated.
no it isn't
Wow! 20 minutes and overheat? No way buying that! Thanks for posting this.
Agreed. 20 minutes at highest and GoPro response to his query means to me that you can't really make the most of its full potential, so what's the value if users are restricted to 20 mins. If that is an issue before (hero 9) and (hero 10), surely a software update cant fully resolve it.
great to see other upgrades but tad disappointed when anyone wants to do a long recording of an activity or sports, etc.
@@WM-eg4gh It makes it totally useless for me. I run long distance and also considered using it as a webcam. Neither would work.
You wasn't going to buy it anyway, so stop it with the hate.
@@thewalkingvloggingman7152 Who's hating? It is just an objective observation that seems to a factor that makes some consumers like myself reluctant to spend their hard earned cash and waited for high hopes (9 months) that Go Pro Hero 10 would be better purchase. I myself don't have one but always wanted one. I owned an A1 but that itself is not ideal for use-cases of mine and not very portable or wearable to justify my specific use-case if it doesn't able to fulfill the criteria.
I didn't evn buy insta go, pocket, dji osmo 2 because GoHero is superior to my specific use-case but 20 minutes is a disappointment. You may find it appropriate for your needs and projects, which is perfectly fine.
I'm glad these good reviews after launch today helped me make better informed decisions if you asked me. If this issue was resolved and and an hour or two hours recording, I would consider more appropriate to buy it. With the limited price discount before end of the month and 50% for Go Pro subscribers, that's a saving. I can even attach my rode mic on and replace that audio on that too, not a problem.
@@WM-eg4gh He was really just trolling. Did not deserve attention, but for those of us that actually use actioncameras we know that you don't want them to give up just after 20 minutes. That is not even a 10 km run.
This is why I donât wanna get hyped so much. Expected more from GoPro Hero 10.đ
There is a problem with the audio around 8:30 min, but overall I think for now it's better to get a Hero 9 for a good deal!
Ah crap. Good spot. Some Premiere Pro export issue I think. Basically GadgetsBoy experienced same overheating issues, and the Hero 9 didn't shut down in same tests.
@@Thetechchap Gotcha, I just imagine that, good vid btw! Cheers!
It looks great! I'll stick with my Hero 9 Black that I never use đ
Haha I hear that đ
Me toođ
Can i have your 9 please
Then give to me, i will take a good care of itđđ»đđ u can reply if ur willing for a free give away
lol same ,, best post ever haha
Nice one Tom, good to see someone with influence immediately mentioning issues. Great video and the camera does look nice. Cheers, Dave.
Thank you for your honest and clear review, I will wait to see if any update will stop the heating (man what an issue for a brand new sport camera that has been shooting in UK in september...)
It will help me to wait for the next DJI action 2 and make decision ...or not (COMMON Sony, get the job done :-) )
That rc boat video is awesome! The best stabilization Iâve never seen! However, the over heating is usually hard to fix by the software update. I wish gopro will be able to fix it, but they should not have released it if they already knew the issue.
Great review, thank you so much. Going to order it!
Thanks The Tech Chap and GadgetsBoy for your honest reviews, haven't seen anyone else report overheating issue, don't know if their units are from different production batches or they haven't done such extensive testing as you. Another issue, highlighted by DC Rainmaker in his review @, is the Max Lens Mod isn't immediately supported but requires a software update coming this November.
Yeah that's correct about the November update for max lens. It could just be our batch, GoPro haven't been very helpful tbh
Great video mate!! The best review so far!!
I did enjoy how you were shooting from the streets and the river. Felt like adding some vlogging to what you usually do.
Then new frame rates give me the reason to upgrade but even more so the noise reduction and tone mapping that the gp2 chip features. Especially the new natural colour profile that will come in handy when I donât want to spend too much time in post correcting the flat
Thanks for the helpful video. Was thinking about upgrading from the Hero 9, but with the battery being worse and especially overheating and shutting off much sooner, I will pass unless I hear this issue has improved with updates.
Not enough of an upgrade for me. They need to increase image sensor and sort low light performance out. Gopro seems to be struggling to invest in R&D to really improve these cameras. In my opinion they are struggling to be market leaders still.
Yep agreed - a bigger sensor and better low light perf is all I really want. Plus the improved hypersmooth/horizon don't apply to new video modes (e.g. 5k60/4k120) which feels a bit of a compromise
you must understand how gopro business model works...
there is a limit in what R&D can do for them, but what marketing can do is almost limitless...
so it is not difficult to understand why they spend twice in marketing compared to what they do with research
Who do you think is the market leader in action camera now??
@@timfan3638 They probably are still the market leader but I am not sure if that's because of marketing or because the gopro is better than others like insta. Gopro had a good lead but seems to have been caught up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing gopro. I want them to be the best, I just think they need to be making more leaps especially in low light quality. I do a lot of scuba diving with low light and the image quality can get pretty bad.
@@Thetechchap is there an alternative competitor to gopro to recommend?
Thank you for your great review!
Can we also request if the overheating issue will still happen on 1080p and 720 video recording for more than 20 mins?
Thanks for the informations about the overheating
Great review. I'm using it only in water so overheating is not an issue here. I was wondering what's the max fps I can get in 4K and 2.7k with superview and hypersmooth 4. Thanks for any help, the website specs page is not very clear.
Thanks for the honest review man!
Dang that's a deal breaker for that new thing to overheat already.
Nah! Itâs a great hand warmer in winter! Yet for 23 minutes, only. After that must restart it for better result. đ€Šââïž
Agree. Was going to consider upgrading from my 9, but now I will wait to see if this is improved with some updates.
@@SidsTips I also saw some reviews where as soon as you hit record the preview screen goes blank. What's the point if you can't see or frame yourself while its recording? Thats jus stupid for it to blank out like that.
It seems to be a problem with newer sensors or processors in rather small enclosures as the DJI Action 2 has this problem as well albeit not as bad. Same thing has been happening to smartphones in recent years. This is nothing new in the DSLR front as the Sony NEX and other cameras have a recording limit due to heat output when using high framerate and resolutions.
great video.. love the image quality.. Nice to see gopro improved.. But every gopro i ever had..and i got a pile of them. Always had some issue that made me hate using it.
Thanks!
Would you say the minimum focus distance is about the same as the 9? Never liked that I had to keep the camera so far away when documenting adventures with my son etc.
Good to view an honest review that is not just full of Gopro hype
Great videođ what kind of camara and lens you using in this video?? Thank yoy.
Hi tech chap, Iâd really love to know more about the stills photography performance. Eg, How do the images come out in different lighting conditions, noise levels, raw format performance etc. I still have a hero 3+ from⊠ages ago and use it really for underwater photography. So with the 23MP stills capability, the hero 10 might be a decent upgrade.
seeing the tip of the boat just going nuts and the rest of the footage being smooth is insane.
Is the preview screen also going blank after you hit record? I would much like to see what I'm framing during the recording process. I saw that other reviews are trying to figure out if this is a bug or missing feature?
Hi What program you use for editing... does GoPro comes with editing software?
Looks like, year after GP10 we can expect different looking GP11, for improved cooling for instance. Or there will be option with extensive water resistance and other with overall better image quality.
agreed - hopefully refresh design, bigger sensor, and better cooling!
@Lucek Z tym przegrzewaniem to juĆŒ od 8 generacji zaczÄĆy siÄ problemy... moĆŒe 11 (o ile wyjdzie) upora siÄ z tym problemem
@@Thetechchap Yes, maybe it is time to make them a little bigger to put in a bigger sensor to get better low light performance.
Here's what's missing:
1. Bluetooth to use with a Bluetooth mic and/or earphones
2. Larger LCD on the back with less black border around the screen
3. Ability to plug in a mic through a SMALL USB-C adapter
4. USB-C port cover that's separate from the battery cover, for more convenient access
5. HDMI output through SMALL USB-C adapter
6. 1/4-20" thread right on the body
7. A built-in cold shoe mount would also be great :)
That's all I can think of for now. Otherwise, it seems like a nice update but I'll wait to see how the overheating issue plays out. Great video BTW!
Oh wow, it overheats. Surprise. Imagine using this in summer.
Itâs good hand warmer in winter!,
Gopro doesn't give a fuck about overheating issues. They'll lie and say it's your SD card.
imagine using it in northern australia in summer. hot and humid
@@stroudy itâs ok because it also freezes sometimes.
I mean stick your phone in a water proof box videoing at 4k in the sun and see if it holds up.
Thank you for the great review! I was hoping to get my first ever gopro but because of the overheating and forced shutdowns, I am going to pass on again this year. Maybe the Go Pro 11 would be the one to look forward to now.
As long as they're waterproof, they're going to overheat. Electronics produce heat.
Did you record with an external mic or just with the built-in one? The audio sounds surprisingly alright, especially in those crowded areas.
Just got mine. Wondering if it's normal that you can wittle the battery door while the cam is open. And when you close the cam the rubber on that door seems to be tight and that should be good. But the outer plastic on the door has some gaps
Great review, Over Heating after 20 plus minutes that's probably GoPro fix to stop the camera from freezing, or losing video clips like the 9. Sorry to be so down on this camera (GoPro sort your software bugs out)
Question:
For surfing or Skiing I prefer mode: 60fps + superview, what are the modes in go pro 10?
What is the maximum fps and res and horizontal leveling for superview?
Can I use 4k 60fps + superview + horizontal leveling?
or 5k 60fps + superview?
or 4k 120fps + superview?
Thanks,
Will this be worth upgrading from a GoPro hero 8? I mainly use it for mountain biking and snowboarding
That's game - putting it on that small boat in the Thames! Glad you got it back đ
How does the mic compare? We make fishing videos and can't decide between a GoPro or a Canon m50
I thinks it's a good one for shooting video podcast or vlog. But overheat issue will become the big problem. How long you can record when it's 4K 30fps? Thank you! From Indonesia
How awesome is it to watch videos on CZcams in 4k60âŠlooked amazing on my iPhone 12..this is the future I guess đđđ
Hi, at 4:16 were you using narrow or linear field of view?
@hero11, I love the mount, but the "doors" are opening from the mounted side, so if you are a motorcyclist, you have to take the helmet off, unscrew the gopro and change battery. It's not a huge deal, but it could be rotated for 180° even though if you have mic aftermarket mounts, they would still work.
Does the 10 have the same battery door as the 8 that falls off and costs a lot of money to replace when lost?
The new processor is fast and lag free but wait what is with the overheating and shut off from go pro..... Next iteration with better camera sensors and more low light capabilities along with a more improved processor are we asking for more.... Hope they Address these issues.ASAP.. Nice work.... đ
How did you get the 3 way 2.0 with the cam plzz tell huge fan sir
Thanks for the video! I stay with hero 5 black for now!
Cheers pal, well put together vid. Gonna hold out for the 11. I would still like hight photo quality, especially since its no longer a small camera.
Cheers for your honest review tho đ
Thanks for the honest review. I was looking at the comments to see if GoPro addressed it but crickets...so remove from shopping cart for now. @GoPro You should be thankful because if I bought it and had these issues I might have been done with you all together but just get it fixed, let us know and Thank The Tech Chap.
do people recomend upgrading frpm a gp5 to the gp10?
I just watched your video on the GoPro 10 and was interested in your findings. I know that there we issues that plagued the Hero 9 like freezing and shutting down while recording. I may hold off for three - four months to see what happens. GoPro has everything that I'm looking for, but when you look at other companies out there like Insta 360 and DJI's Osmo Action, I just may see what happens before investing in this camera.
Is it as glitchy as H9? Overheating? Shooting stuck? Must reinsert the battery to restart it?
Does the max lens mod work with higher res? And higher frame rate?
I was really on a "take my money" wave until the overheating moment. I think I'll hold off. I went for the DJI Pocket 2 last year because of its size and low light performance but always wanted a Go Pro for its integration with OBS etc. Hopefully they fix the overheating issue
I dont own any gopro anymore, just sold my hero 4s. Which gopro would be best for mini bike & go karts racing attached to a helmet?
Great review...very indepth! This was like reading the manual but more fun :) Do people even read manuals anymore though...lol. Great job on your video :)
Hi, there. Thanks for show us. I thought this problem of heating up would be less than previous version. It's a pity!!!
As I don't have much demand, I think previous version is enough for me.
Will keep my 9 for a bit :) thanks again for the brill video
Does the hero 10 support the 3.5mm adapter for a mic? I donât wanna use the stupid media mod and I canât find anything answers, itâs frustrating to spend 40 on a mic adapter and not know if I can use my setup. Thanks.
That overheating issue kills it for me.
Yeh crazy they have not fixed this issue ?
Whey a finney
The over heating has a long history. Both my 5 and 7 (blacks) suffered the same issue. I found that the cameras over-heated regardless of resolution/FPS in the Arizona heat. You might think that GoPro would add some fins (at the cost of form) to get rid of the heat as PC manufacturers have been doing for years.
.
Until seeing your honest review I was really tempted to buy the GP10, but like the GP9 I'll continue to pass and instead continue to enjoy my two GP8 workhorses that I can depend on. If it can be proven that it doesn't understand on an average day (temperature in the 80s) and at work flawlessly in standard bitrate, then and only then will I be tempted... BTW, aside from the form factor switching to the iPhone 13 is tempting, knowing it's dependable. Thanks again for the great review!
Can you shoot superview 4k 60fps?
Can you put it under the water and start recording? I want to see if it overheats
I clicked on your video because I want to watch your review great job by the way how are you liking theGoPro hero 10
Hahaha! Well I thought the 9 was buggy enough for me to wait for the 10, but now this: overheating and audio issues. Gonna wait another several months to see how it goes with the 10, whether I'm gonna jump ship to GoPro or stick with my Osmo Action.
Do you think I can buy the new lens for my gp9?
I would love to see a minor zoom feature for video, if that is possible?
For me the one thing that is missing is a build in mic input and a cold shoe mount. always have to fiddle around with the mod....
They do that on purpose so you have to buy there media mount.. it's all a Marketing trick!! and you walk with your eyes open in it.
Thanks for such as honest review, not like the verge that they claim that everything goes perfect with this camera
So going to buy one now got the hero 8 and the hero 9.
Any issues with freezing so far? I know the 9 and prior models had this issue which is preventing me from upgrading from my 6 đ„Č
My 9 has NEVER froze and had it since day 1. Best go pro ever
aloha~ is there such a thing call mirrorless lens for gopro10blk? thanks.
Only upgrade in proc n firmware? But not in sensor?.. better wait one r II and osmo pocket 3 .. min 1" sensor it a must...
Overheating is a concern. Especially when intending to use it as a webcam from time to time.
still no mic jack?
Best review bro..love from India đźđł
Does anyone know if this most recent update fixed the overheating issues? I watched a review posted last week and he mentioned nothing about overheating etc
Can it run while plugged in but without a battery?
I will buy it definitely đđ hindsight is very useful feature, no other action cam have that
Hero 9 has it..
I have issue with my new GoPro 10 . My previous cam was GoPro session 5 and i had Samsung Evo 256sd card . The problem with new gopro 10 is that when I connect cam to PC gopro quick app he don't see any media on that sd card and shows 0 and doesn't want to download my files to GoPro quick app because he thinks its empty. I never had this issue with same sd card in my session 5 cam. So now in order to transfer files from sd card to pc I have to use usb sd card reader which is annoying. Do you know what might be the issue here and why GoPro quick doesn't recognize this sd card in GoPro 10? I checked 2 sd cars Samsung Evo 256gb and scan disc 32gb they both work fine on my gopro session 5 and gopro quick app see them without any issue but on gopro 10 no.
My hero 8 works fantastic too on rc boat and rc cars đ„
Does it hang like the 9?
How do you change to 16:9 as I can only see 4:3
R/C boats are nearly always self righting. Forward / reverse, rocks the boat port to starboard until it self rights up. Uses the torque of the motor. For a technical chap, did you not know this? ;)
What is it with Gopro that the footage always looks muddy?
Looks like ill have to look for a different action cam for my motorbike :( I'd be definitely filming longer than 20min... australian summer in the traffic will definitely not help cooling that thing down...
If you think about it tho that over heating didnât happened when it was in the water. And Iâm pretty sure it wonât over heat on moto vlogging cold temperatures and I know for sure if you mount this outside your car it wonât over heat
Gopro release camera as always - not ready for real life recordings. Stay tuned in near year for waitng firmware that maybe fix current issues. Maybe. And you dont test battery life in cold condition, probably there will be one more issue - 0%. Nice review!
Bitrate for 4K 120 fps?
The biggest question I have had since I bought the GoPro 8 is... Can the GoPro 10 record in 4k 60p while I preview the recording on my iPhone? That said if it can't record over 20 minutes then it doesn't really matter. I need to connect an external battery and record a tennis match all the while continuing to check my iPhone to see if I am capturing footage. I need reassurance.
Is there any information about the Max Lens Mod? Is it compatible? Will it have a higher resolution than 2,7k60? Will there be a new one?
Do you have any information about that?
It's not something I've been able to test. I believe an update in November will enable to work on the Hero 10
@@Thetechchap Iâll hope so haha thanks for the quick response my man!
Overheating while sitting inside a UK home end of September after only 20 minutes... how does this get pass any sort of testing?
Great... But I'm still asking the same old question. Have they fixed the problem with the batteries swelling.
I won't be buying another Go Pro until they can confirm this.
I have a number of batteries looking as though they have gone full term and are about to give birth.
This has happened to every Go Pro battery that I have purchased.
8:18 gopro explained if you sit the camera down like this it will overheat, if you keep those prong things open ans introduce a little air movement you'll decrease overheat. + upgrade the door and prongs to aluminum ones and that will help remove heat from the camera
This is awsome đŻ
Would love to see a video of it being used as a webcam! Thank you
8:30-8:50 reminds me like Forest Gump. In Vietnam âŠ.and microphone đ€ đđđ
Your channel is very very great đđđ
