Here in Slovakia, I was going home from my grandma's on a long distance bus. While waiting on the station, this guy tried to sell me an electric razor. I kept refusing and at the end he just forced the box into my hands and said it's free and left. I just put it on the ground and left it there, wasn't even gonna open it.

What can also happen is that you send one, they send one, and then later on down the road you get a text saying “you exchanged pics with my 13 year old daughter, so pay me $100,000+ so I don’t rat you out.”

A few months ago, I got scammed. I received a message from a CZcamsr I follow saying that I won a PS5, a gaming monitor, a hoodie, and some stickers. At the time I didn't realize it was a scammer so I gave them my name, address, and paid them with $300 worth in gift cards (I'm still worried that they might steal my identity). When they tried to hit me up for more it was then I realized that it was a scammer. I told them that I could only laugh at myself for being fooled. That they could keep their blood money and that they will reap what they sow. I also cursed them out before deleting the account. I was on a prepaid burner phone, so they don't have my real number.
Later, I filed a dispute with my bank -- I blamed it on my nonexistent cousin and said they stole my card on a fake giveaway -- and got my money back.
Geeze. Scammers like these are why the "unalive" penalty needs to be more prevalent.

I can fully understand Nate's hesitation when it came to that message out of the blue from Jaden's dad, I get those messages only not just through E-Mail but also through direct text messages and phone calls, such as for example when I got a text message from ConsumerCellular informing me that my phone's (an ancient phone at this point) SIM card was in need of a replacement soon, when that company tried to call my phone the first time the caller ID marked it as "Scam Likely" after that I was pretty much ignoring any and all attempts at communication from them because the caller ID came up as a Scam and I always 100% ignore scam calls hell the second I see that as the ID I block the number then and there, until mom confirmed one of their messages about them sending my new SIM card to my address.
This almost happened to my Grandpa awhile ago! Someone contacted him saying "Grandpa, I'm in jail! Can you send me money for bail?" It was a man on the phone and grandpa thought it was my older brother, but he didn't send money right away! He hung up on the guy and contacted my mom, asking if my brother was in jail; she said no and that he was at home with his wife and kids. So Grandpa did not get scammed!!
i know one thing for travelers to know is that those "Beware pickpockets" Signs, are not put up by the Police. They are put up by the Pickpockets themselves. some people react when they see these signs by patting down their pockets, and Checking all the important places, like your phone and wallet. now they know where to find the important things.
5:20 oh god, a friend works in support for a company which handles money transactions. Many times he's told me how much it sucks to break the news of scams and money loss to people and having to hear their confusion and desperation without being able to help them. Those are livelihoods getting destroyed and you get to hear it on a phone and just nod because that's all you can do

Hearing these scam call stories makes me happy that my S22 just auto-blocks numbers that seem odd or are just obviously scams.
This summer I walked out of McDonald's and a stranger woman walked up to, gave me a note that's written in excellent finnish, yet she kept talking in english as if she couldn't speak the language. Strike 1. She begged for just 10 euros and showed me a picture of kids that I seriously doubt were really hers. Strike 3. Then when I refused to give my 20 euros - I kept it hidden in my wallet out of her view, but did give her 4 euros under pressure. She took it and offered to follow me to an ATM, Strike 3! I really should have told her to leave, but I just fast walked away.
I want to be altruistic but it's people like these why I'd never give anyone anything in public. Never again
Ive only ever given one homeless person money, it was 11:00 at night at Walmart. He was a really obese guy with something clearly wrong with one of his feet. He was sitting in the dark against a masonry wall next to the road close to an intersection, with some empty top ramen bowls on the ground next to him. He had a grocery cart with some clothes in it and he was covered with a blanket that was clearly meant for a child. My wife and I felt bad for him so we went to a bank and got $20 and drove back and gave it to him and told him to get something warm to eat. After getting back in my car I called the local police departments non emergency number and told them they should go check on the guy and they said they'd go check on him and see about finding him a warm place to sleep for the night, because this was in late November in Maine.

A friendly reminder the only reason scammers keep doing this because people keep falling for it .
I get a scam every couple months about my package not being delivered and I know it’s a scam because it’s always an email not the official ups name
I lost my wallet once when I was out bicycle riding. Because it had my SSN, I thought it prudent to freeze my credit information so as to avoid getting any charges under my name. For a good year, I was getting letters from auto financing companies saying that I was turned down for various auto loans. This happened until I got a letter from a police department in a city an hour away from me saying that my ID information was recovered from a raid on a building that was a cover for using stolen IDs. They said that my stuff would get destroyed after 30 days if I didn't claim it. I just let it go because I replaced all the important stuff I lost. Probably going to keep the freeze on my credit until I need to utilize it for financial reasons.

Thought I fell for one at another point for a chinese KFC pokemon toy, but it turned out it was legit. Overpriced but legit.
My dad fell for a Nigerian money scam only because our mother died and he was racked with guilt and loneliness and it made him feel good to help what he thought was a woman who was helping build an orphanage in Nigeria. It wasn't until he got a stroke from stress that he finally stopped and I took over his accounts.

I lost a cash app account. Made dumb decisions cuz of lack of sleep.
Every now and then I’d get a scam text claiming that my Netflix or other streaming account had been suspended for “fraudulent” activity. Jokes on them, cuz I don’t have my own Netflix or Max accounts, so I automatically know it’s a scammer BS’ing me. 😂
Also some of them type in some weird algorithm like they think they’re TRON or something. Freaking morons😂
