actually what increased in size is mario's model and not his hitbox, because otherwise:
1. he wouldn't be able to get in the clown car
2. in the first section, bowser jr and the blocks would be screwing him up
3. he could jump over small bowser and possibly even bigger bowser
4. he would've jumped as high as bowser, if not higher
5. his size wouldn't shrink when he gets in the clown car
6. the raining fireballs would be unavoidable
7. he wouldn't be able to get under bowser's shell during the shell phase
