Thats me with english. Listening skills need dedication. Used to watch my favorite movie daily without understanding. And then BOOM!!! I am fluent now.
I already learned Hangul, but I still need an ETERNITY to read a word, let alone a whole sentence!
Hi,
If you know your Hangul and have difficulty reading words and sentences,
I suggest learning a few sound rules. It will make the task much easier.
Let me know if I can help. ^ ^

I’m American Korean, and since my parents are divorced and I live with my dad I couldn’t practice/get help with my Korean since he doesn’t speak it (( I was raised and my first language was Korean )) but after I moved in with my dad I had to learn English and now I’m trying to refresh myself with my culture and language and I’m glad I came upon this video❤️
I’ve decided to go back to learning Korean alongside Japanese and Spanish ☺️
I've already learnt Spanish and I gave up on Japanese a long time ago, so one more language to go :]
Interesting, I never watched K-drama or listened to K-pop and after 1 year learning Korean my listening, even though I practiced with our student's book listening practices, was really bad. My classmates were all k-pop k-drama fans and they just understood a lot more. Then in the summer of 19' I began my K-drama journey and the listening part improved a lot. Also sensing some newly learnt grammar in the k-drama I am currently watching has been a lot of fun.
“This was suppose to be an English filter if you-, if you didn’t catch that”😂😂
"a boy, or girl, or person u feel me?" I FEEL YOU 😂
Yup. That is my relationship with grammar! After 5 years I can comfortably say that I can speak Japanese but my grammar would say otherwise 😂😅
Lol 😂 my sister had to learn Japanese for school and that was the same problem with her
Bruh after learning hangul romanization is so hard to read lmao-
F A C T S ~ ~ ! ! I actually pronounce things wrong when I try to read romanization~~! There’s just too much variation in how different resources romanize words that it’s not a good idea to use it~
Omg saaame I used to be good at it now I’m like that romanization don’t sound right 😂
Especially in long words lmao i get lost in the romanization of them
I think watching kdrama is good when you’re taking a break because you kinda get a feeling for the language

The listening thing is very true before I even thought about learning korean hearing kpop it took me like 6 months to learn a word unintentionally
한국어 열심히 배우시는 모습이 정말 보기 좋아요!! 응원할게요 👍👍
I dont know about tip #4 😂 all day I watch kdrama and listen to kpop like BTS and BLACKPINK and other kpop bands. That is how I kinda understand. When I watch kdrama I have caption on, and I have those habit that every time I listen to what they say and pause the video and repeat what they said and read the captions to understand what they said 😂 same thing for kpop i start singing korean and learn the whole lyrics in korean and English 🤣🤣 i love your video. So helpful!!❤
ahhhh~ that's a technique called sentence mining! haha if you do that, it's more like studying~ I'm specifically referring to the people that think they can just watch the drama and become fluent~ While I'm sure even that would work if someone were to do it for years, I'm just trying to emphasize that it's not the most efficient way to study~
"Want to learn Korean? Watch this" me: oh ok
7:00 I'd have to say that I learned Japanese by adding hours and hours of listening practice(music/anime/news/talkshows) in addition to my regular vocab/grammar study and it is extremely helpful. I think the big point is that you can't just ONLY do that because like you say it'll just go over your head.
Love your posters! 😭😭💜
I love your energy , thanks for this channel ❤️
Those tips are really necessary!! I loved the video. Thanks for share this 💜💜💜😁

There are actually some tips which are quite useful for upper beginner/intermediate speakers that we usually ignore... 고마웡~
Great advice thank you! 👍🤓✨I'm currently trying to find my motivation back cause I've been mostly reviewing and indeed it is not the most exciting though really necessary! I will apply your advice by setting a goal of making at leat 5 sentences for each grammatical point I'll review and see how it goes.

Hi Natalia씨~ I just became a new subscriber today and I've seen several of your wonderful, funny, and ecstatic videos ( your video on the 6 things you wish you knew before learning Korean was my favorite! ) My dad and I found ourselves LITTERALLY laughing out loud to several of your videos, and my dad never laughsㅋㅋㅋ Your videos are so well made, so cleverly deliviered that you have captured our hearts! My family and I have just recently started the Korean fluency journey ourselves, and love to know we are not alone on the Korean sea. Thanks for all your wonderful advice~ I've also created a CZcams channel to vlog our Korean study adventures at home and it has been doozy. If you are the least bit interested in seeing our family adventure please get back to me~ Again thank for creating such intriguing content!

How cute are you!😂😊 Thank you for the tips
Very good explanations and makes good sense. A bit discouraging, though, as I only want to understand Korean so I can watch K dramas. So many fabulous K dramas... Thanks, Natalia! Great video!

You always give such good advice~ I've been studying Korean for 1 year (my study is on a hiatus bc of uni u no) and I struggle getting past the upper beginner stage :( do you have any specific advice for this ?
Hmmm My advice to you would be to just continue learning vocabulary and grammar structures. Personally I could feel the jump once I learned... maybe.... 80 intermediate level grammar structures? I'm sharing the number with you because I want you to have a point of reference, but the reason I could feel the jump was because I was able to better express myself and understand others. Continuing to grow your vocabulary is also vital. At the time, I was studying about 100 words a week (not because I wanted to, but because I needed to for my classes). Oh! Also! I didn't remember all those words haha I would say I only truly learned about 500-700 of the words that I studied that year.
In other words, I would say you just need to keep going! Continue to learn new words and grammar patterns, and eventually you'll realize you've hit an intermediate level. That's what happened to me. I felt like my Korean had plateaued for about a year until one day I realized I was intermediate lol (The year that I felt I was stuck was the year I was in Korea learning all those grammar structures and vocabulary words.)
I have trouble with the 3rd tip. Whenever I try to write sentences on my own, I have no way of checking to see if it's correct. Any ideas?
i have the same problem, but I'm trying to writing and then I see the right answer. usually I do a lot of mistakes, but I think is better know your mistakes than write everything right and don't know what u did wrong
I really like this video because most of it is great advice for language learning in general.
I found your video 2 weeks after I started my own journey to learn Korean. You are super funny and had me lol watching your videos. Please keep posting tips please.
Listening in the beginning just helps you to get to used to the language. I mean, it's not that beneficial, but i think it's also important if you like tired to learn grammar or new words or smth. So, don't underestimate listening in the beginning😂
Actually your video helped me so much, thanks!! Hope you're okay! ❤️
That is true. Learning to read Hangeul helps a lot. So I am also starting a lesson for beginners on my channel.
Would love to see a video on how you review as usually I feel like I just skim over everything and I'm not actually reviewing properly 😂 also I love your Totoro hoodie! 😍

한글 is definitely the best start :) ive only been studying it for just iver a month but at first i just started without really knowing what to do and hsd a bunch of apps, it was overwhelming because i was trying to memorise the words that were just appearing on my screen in letters i didnt know at all 😭😭 but then a week or two ago, i learnt 한글 and now i can read and write a little bit (like short sentences) because i learnt it :)
First, I stopped the video when you talked about learning German, just to make sure this is a video about learning korean XD (btw I'm a German so I'm sorry for my bad English skills lol)
1. Learned hangul...
2. can introduce myself, know basic sentences

Just continue what you are doing~ Continue to study grammar and learn new vocabulary!I recommend How to Study Korean's website! It has amazing free lessons that include both grammar and vocabulary. Their explanations are very thorough as well! If you need something that also includes listening, which I highly recommend since you are a beginner, I would check out the channel "Mini Teaches Korean" and "Korean 언니!" I also recommend TTMIK if you don't currently use their CZcams channel to study Korean.

Hi! My name is Jasper, I'm a 15 year old from the south region in North America, and I've been procrasinating my desire to learn Korean for a couple months now and just tonight I got the motivation to be productive, Ive finally decided to spend the next couple hours learning tips and the alphabet an such. Point is you were one of the people I've found to look promising, Im glad my gut is good to me because after watching like 3 videos of yours Ive learned more tips about Korean than my Spanish teachers ever gave me in the two years I've (unwillingly) taken Spanish in middle school and highschool. I love your side commentary about your experiences and truth along your path learning Korean and studying abroad and I believe I will continue to learn a lot from you in the future!
I disagree with you with dramas for listening (and learning). I just started to study korean and it’s the third language that I’m learning. Although you can’t use ONLY dramas as a study tool, that’s how I learned English in the first place - just by watching Harry Potter endlessly when I was 12 and being curious with the dictionary (no internet at the time).
So I’m doing the same with Korean, I picked up a drama as a study object and I’ll watch it all repeatedly again and again so I’ll complement my study.
I do agree, though, that if you only watch, and don’t analyze and pause and go back a few seconds, it is useless lol. But if you watch the scene, go back, repeat the lines out loud, it’s actually really helpful.
I started learning Korean last summer, and I honestly did NOT review at all. I would just fly through lessons and call it a day. I ended up forgetting everything I learned. I was pretty inconsistent throughout that time too because of school, but recently I started to learn it again. This time I'm starting with 한글, and making sure that I review everything. I hope it works out, but your videos make me very motivated! Thank you! If anyone wants to be internet study buddies, please lmk too😭🙏🏻💞
I just have to say, your sweatshirt is everything.
You are so cutee^^ Thanks for your advice ♡♡
I think that in the long run, kdramas actually do help!! I wouldn’t tell someone to study only from that tho lol but for me maybe 60% of the vocab I know is the things I picked up from kdramas! Don’t expect to learn the whole language that way but it’s a good thing to do if you are feeling unmotivated to listen to lessons and study grammar it always helps me get motivated again
I totally agree! I've recently started learning Korean in a more serious way, but I've been watching k-dramas for like 8 years, and I knew soo many words of the beginner level that it made it easier to move forward with the grammar, bc I didn't have to memorize everything from zero, if that makes sense.
Rosario DiBello yeah I get you! I’m the same way I had watched kdramas for a few years before I started learning seriously so it made starting out so much easier
Love your wall posters 💜💜💜💜
I want to learn Korean as my 3rd language but I am struggling to learn by myself. I learned my first language, Spanish, because my parents were Mexicans and didn't understand English. I learned how to read and write in Spanish by myself to understand more things, which I'm not very good at. I learned English at school because it was important, it was a bit hard because most people at school knew Spanish so talking in English was rare. I learned a bit more because I practiced with teachers and non-Spanish speakers.so, learning Korean might be hard because I won't have someone that knows Korean to talk to me and I don't want to talk through online because I'm a very shy person. I am excited to try and learn. Wish me luck !!!

i’m really glad i never wanted to use the romanization when i started learning, the first thing i learned was hangul and i used hangul to figure out how to pronounce the romanized words haha
You are so cool😂😂 and helpful ❤️❤️
Watching current era Kdramas (for fun) has helped me get some basic words down and there are quite a few now where I don’t “translate them in my head” and I realized I had looked away from the screen one day and I understood a sentence. Granted, it was a short one, but still. Accomplishment. 😂
Active listening isn’t purely for fun, but watching a scene with/without the subtitles and studying that way can be fun or at least a nice change from your regular studies (cause I’m bored easily) haha
Kpop is harder cause they don’t pronounce words like you would irl (like any singers), but even though I wouldn’t call it STUDYING, it’s nice to be able to pick up words that you couldn’t before 😅
Me and my younger sister both challenged ourselves to learn a new language so she decided to learn Russian and I decided to learn either learn Spanish or korean.
I'm probably gonna learn Spanish first because it's way easier to learn and it's kinda similar to French(I live in Canada so I've been learning French since I was 9) so I'm probably gonna learn Spanish and then move on to Korean because it's a lot more complicated.
I love your videos!
I am here to learn Korean because I just recently discovered how much I really enjoy Kdramas because of how soothing the Korean language sounds to my ears! So my love for Kdramas and the Korean language turned into curiosity about Kpop and I only just discovered Exo and BTS in January of this year....( I am late to everything, story of my life!) Glad I finally discovered Kpop; just sad that I am joining the Exo-L and ARMY fandom so late in the game! But I look forward to catching up and learning a new language and culture along the way!

I have an American accent when I speak Korean, but I am Korean-American. So sometimes people have difficulty understanding me when I speak, but they pretty much figure out from the context. Yeaaaaa watching shows is a lazy learning situation. they can be helpful though but you need to be actively learning not just, ya know, watching t with subtitles or listening. Like music for example, pick a song that has good grammar and not to much distortion (slower sad story based songs are good for this), find the lyrics and translate them, to understand the vocabulary and grammar. then sing along with the song making sure you remember and understand what's being said. In saying that, I haven't tried this method for Korean, only Chinese.
Only bts can motivate me to learn another language ngl and here I am :)
