Ah, my grandfather is so happy to see this! He's wanted to see Joni on the Sullivan show ever since you started posting. She's his favorite female singer and we had never see her on Sullivan before. Thank you so much for posting this! She was one of the most popular singers of the '50's. "In a Garden of Roses" charted at number 22 in Billboard in 1954. An episode guide states she also sang a medley of her biggest hits on this episode, so that would be great to see as well! We hope you will post more Joni! She appeared 5 times on the Sullivan show.
It would be so wonderful to see her medley of hits on this same episode. I found a listing for it in an old newspaper which was previewing this episode. This is the first time I've ever seen Joni on the Sullivan show. None of her performances had been released until now since their initial airings. It's very nice to see her!
@@TomElvisSmith hi Tom…I’m amazed at the expense and fanfare that the show went through to create such elaborate scenes / sets and professional dancers for less than a 3 minutes presentation of a song. I’m wondering if there is a good book about the Ed Sullivan Show / Toast of the Town behind the scenes kind of thing. Would make a wonderful read.
@@mrob75 There are a few books out there on Sullivan and the show. I suppose they are more about Ed's life but they also include anecdotes about the show. I find that elaborate production numbers are more common in the shows from the early '50's. I'm sure there must be many we haven't seen yet. It truly is impressive!

She's very lucky to live that old life ❤️
Giovanna Babbo (Joni) passed a year ago on 20 February 2022 at age 91.
"Every rose has its thorn."
Thank you so much for posting this. What a treat! I had no idea that Ms. James sang this on this show. They went all-out with the production.
They did indeed! Joni appeared five times on the Sullivan show. I hope we get to see more!
This was simply a stunning & beautiful performance. Thank you for sharing it. God Bless You & stay safe.

I agree. Hello to you in Japan from me in the US.
We lost Joni James a year ago on February 20th….She is one of my most favorite performers! 😊 Hoping to see more of her here on Ed Sullivan.
