Matbock Tarsier Eclipse vs. Threaded IRIS. One of them is far superior!

- This is a quick run down of what I have found using both of these focusing devices on my PVS-14.
Matbock can be purchased online at several retailers.
The threaded iris I purchased from Sean Patrick on Facebook on one of the night vision groups.
Been looking at stuff like this. a 59 dollar amazon M30 to M37 iris and a 37mm clear "sacrificial" filter, and you can toss a 5 dollar 37mm pinch cap from a camera on the front to protect it while in storage or from accidental activation.
If you've got a dude that does it cheaper, sweet! Just tossing the option out there for the other people just starting out.

is that 37mm sacrificial filter enough to stop a great impact? for instance, airsoft BB?

@@PETRAS_ I would bet a close range airsoft pellet would crack the glass, I have it there just to keep dust/junk out. At 5 bucks you could test it pretty cheap. it is sacrificial in my mind. Better than having something get in and scratch the nice Carson glass inside.
@PETRAS_ cold Harbour supply makes a polycarbonate unit that works with the iris and absolutely will handle airsoft bb
Great video but just for future reference the background music is obnoxious. At the very least i'd drop the volume 50%

Yeah I noticed that. I'm getting a mismatch in audio I think. It sounds fine in editing.

I made one from Amazon from another video for about 80 total I think… it was just the exact same focus cap and 37 mm lens. Great video and comparison. I glad I went the route we both did… and skipped paying for the Matbock.
@@danvann777 I did the same thing. Got the iris and a sac lense to screw into the iris for like 90 total
what kind of camo tape do you have on that unit?
It's a vital wrap from TNVC
The camo is m81 woodland otherwise know as GOD'S PLAD
Can you attach a magnifier to the iris?
No, it's either or. Iris or magnifier. I havnt ran across a use yet that needs a magnifier except astronomy.
Background music is so loud that it overrides whatever you're saying it's distracting... lose it

I would highly suggest taking off the guys name you purchased it off, matblock will put a lawyer on this dude, they are harsh with people jumping on their patent. Other wise, yea making them at home is the way to go,
As far as I know he just offloads the stuff from Amazon. But point taken.
