  • Juanito Pascual performs two original pieces, Mamoní (Rumba) and Llegó la Noche (Bulerias) from his album New Flamenco Trio. Mamoni is inspired by time spent in the Panamanian rainforest in collaboration with an eco-restoration project called Earthtrain.org, whose partners include Jane Goodall and Panama's Museum of Biodiversity. The piece evokes some of the mystery and rhythm of the beautiful Mamoní River Valley Preserve. Llegó la Noche uses the fiery rhythm called Bulerias and is a passionate and celebratory style within flamenco. Flamenco guitarist and composer Juanito Pascual has been called "one of the hottest flamenco guitarists in recent years" by National Public Radio. A graduate of Boston's New England Conservatory along with years spent learning in Spain, he is now based in L.A. His frequent national and international tours have brought him to venues including Lincoln Center, Tanglewood, The Panama Jazz Festival, and Madrid's Casa Patas. He has been featured on film and TV soundtracks including the 2016 film "Call Me Francesco" and his 2014 release "Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio", blending elements of jazz, rock and flamenco was included in NPR critic Milo Miles' Top 10 World Music Albums for that year. www.juanitopascual.com This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
