Fujifilm X-T3 vs X-T2 Which Camera Should You Buy?
Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 02. 2019
- Fujifilm has continued to make some of the best cameras on the market. Their latest camera is the Fuji X-T3 which boasts some very notable features. The question I seem to see a lot from many Fuji users is which camera should they buy. Should they buy the new and latest X-T3 or save some money and buy the previous model the X-T2. Check out the video to see how both cameras perform and hopefully I can help answer that question for you.

hi, a minor correction, typo in the above lens list, it's the XF 23mm f/1.4 R Lens ....
Not f/1.2 .....
probably the 56mm lens' similar aperture value was in your mind !!
thank you for your hard work, tests, and making this video.
@@chirag4Good spot, much appreciated.
Great job on the explanation of everything!
Nice review man, Thanks!
Thx for the video. I’ve finally found to go with the xt3 after much research.
Good video dude !! subbed.
That's awesome of you man thank you so much.
i was pleasantly surprised to see you in this video since i know you from the "cigar rant" chanel. great video!
Thank you for watching both channels :):).
great comparison vid! :)
Thanks man, much appreciated.
intersting and very pleased to see the 'lack' of the magenta in the studio test for the x-t3. I never liked that on the previous Fujis. Even they were always mentioned for nice color, I always though ther is this off color from that magenta.
I agree colours in the new camera do look much better and the magenta shift is handled much better now.
Concise and informative
Thank you :-)
Finally a clear explanation on the differences between the two cameras. I would had liked only more info about high ISO performances in low light. Thank you! ;)
It's a pleasure man, thank you very much for watching.
Thanks
At time code 9:58 you mention wishing that the X-T3 had a dedicated button to switch on/off eye detection ... you can map it to the Fn button (Menu, Set Up (wrench icon), Button/Dial settings, Function (fn) setting, Fn1, Face Detection on/off)
I meant something slightly different. With Sony, you don’t have to have it switched on as such but you can simply hold a button and continuous eye detect comes on as a back button focus feature.
Since we produced this video fujifilm has updated the eye detect so that point is no longer valid. That’s the great thing about Fuji, they make things better regularly :).
Quality Content as always. XT-3 is a more polished camera.
Thank you :-)
I think us XH1 users got screwed with the specs with the XT3 haha. But I've learned to love my XH1 now that I do more videos. All my street photography videos are made with the XH1, and it performs very very well. Weirdly, I'd prefer the XT3 for photos because I like the smaller ergonomics. And lets face it, the silver one is sexy haha.
Ibis man it’s all about that ibis.
Never had any problems w/ missing focus on the XT2.
It has a great focusing system but the XT3 is better in that regard.
Thanks for your video, how do you find the colors from the XT3 compared with your Canon 5DsR? I need some insight pls
I haven’t compared those two cameras but I did compare it to the the 5D mark IV I think the Fuji might be slightly better.
Custom fn buttons for the eye af option or the Q button search well or look well 🤣😂🤔👍
That’s to get back button focus not to separate focus and shutter buttons.
Great review! Really well done!
Thank you so much :) I properly appreciate that.
I can well imagine the time, thought and effort that goes into it 😊 I have a 5Dmkiii that I use professionally but its size is really off-putting for everyday/instagram/blogging use though I’ve been spoilt by the mkiii and the images I’ve been able to take with it and my Tamron 35mm... I’m hoping the xt-3 would fill the gap. Love to hear your thoughts 😊
@@jenniferbrittonphotography700 I very recently bought a Fuji X-T3 with the 23mm lens. Personally I'd say absolutely. Having said that, depending on your requirements, if you don't need extensive video features and you just need a small but good camera for photography only then the X-T2 is a brilliant option and super cheap now.
Few things.
The menu system is a little frustrating to begin with but you'll get used to it.
Battery life sucks, buy 3 but only originals. I recommend against any third party batteries.
Wrist strap might be in order as ergonomics are a bit crappy compared to your Canon.
Finally, obviously, the silver one is better :).
Sonder Creative Haha I’ll bear that in mind re the colour!
Thanks for the tips. I’ll go and check both out in person. Prices seem more expensive here in Australia but will compare the difference between the models.
My main thing (aside from image quality) is AF. As I shoot mostly in a ‘lifestyle’ type of photography, including my own kids, I’ve become adept at back button focus and continuous shooting to nail the shot so that will definitely be something to compare.
No serious video, the mkiii can handle that if need be.
Thanks for your help! 😊
Jennifer Britton Photography you’re very welcome :-). I agree trying out both cameras would be the best thing to do.
I will say that the AF in the XT2 is very very good. For photography (depending on the lens) I doubt you’ll have any issues. Compared to the mark III the XT2 is comparable if not better.
Perhaps version 2.10 firmware improves on the eye auto focus.
The video was shot in October last year and both cameras were up to date at that time.
What camera was used to film this video? Beautiful quality
Mix of Sony a7R III and X-T3
I have to buy the camera asap. Can you give me any suggestion between xt2 and canon 80d?
Way too different man. What do you want to shoot and why do you like each of these cameras?
Xt2 vs xh1? I do just stills but I want the grip of the xh1. Xt2 and xh1 image quality the same?
Yes the XT2 and XH1 have identical image quality because they have the same sensor. The XH1 does, however, have IBIS which can be extremely useful.
I thoroughly enjoyed using my XT2 while I had it. As soon as the XH1 got released, I wanted it
However, I'm not too sure about the low light performance of the XH1 and the details lost through the noise level.
What do you recommend?
Did you get the xh1?? I can't decide between it and the xt2 for stills
@@7ThrillFishing :
I was waiting for the XH2, as it may come out this year. However, I'll be investing in the Panasonic Lumix S1 now.
noise reduction off? the x-t3 seems to have better sted saturation as default
The xt2 need power grip to access boost mode. The xt3 is on boost mode when selected.
Would you recommend the Xt-2 for real estate photography
With the right lenses you absolutely can.
Yes, i use an xt1 with a samyang 12mm 2.8 for my real state
I shoot real estate w the Xt2 and the 10-24 f4 and it works great!
Some people have a funny idea of what the word "much" means. I did compare auto focus performance of both cameras and wile the X-T3 is a bit faster it is nothing what I would describe as "much faster"...
Which lens did you use? It was a much faster performer with the 56mm f1.2 when shooting wide open. It was not a minor difference. Not to mention the XT2 was missing more shots in lower light scenarios compared to the XT3 with the 56mm.
The lens choice will make a difference to how much of an improvement you’ll notice.
@@Sondercreative I used the 18-55 kit lens. In good lighting conditions the difference was very difficult to quantify and in low light the T3 felt like 10 - 20% faster. Not a significant difference in practical terms. Sometimes both cameras struggled. The T3 should be significantly better at continuous focusing, which I didn't test though, and what makes it a better camera for continuous focusing and video, but I didn't see much difference, if any, for single focusing.
Vadym Ivanchenko I used more continuous shooting and the lenses we shot were very different. One is a slow prime with a super wide aperture and the other is zoom lens which isn’t known for being slow.
The lenses make a big difference to the results you will notice. Not ever lens is going to appear much better on the XT3 but some slower lenses see a marked improvement.
@@Sondercreative Well said, obviously it depends on the lens you are using.
i would like to shoot with two bodies, having 2 primes on each. i already own an xt3. would you guys recommend me getting another xt3 or and xt2 at half the price?
Id go for the 3 it’s a more well rounded camera.
That's a beautiful scar. : )
The one on my head?
Which camera is good for videos? specifically music videos
The X-T3 is a better camera for video definitely recommend it over the mark 2.
Sonder Creative thanks so much. I have one last question. What lens would you prefer for video? On the xt3? F1.4 or f2
S.E.A.N.Y.P the f2 primes tend to have much better AF for video. I’d recommend them.
Whic one is better for video XT2 or XT30?
Probably the XT30, in my view.
what camera do you use when you took this video ?
A mix between the Sony a7R III and the Fuji X-T3
Does the x-t2 in the test have the latest firmware?
Yes it did.
I think you've made a mistake when you said that the 56 1.2 is very fast focusing on the XT2. You probably wanted to say on the XT3?
Probably, yes lol.
great review - yes frustrating how Fuji has not improved Eye AF for xt2 and xt3 for a long time now- Nikon has improved their eye af - so even Nikon has better eye af - but of course Sony is way ahead of Canon and Nikon and Fuji and Panasonic - common Fuji
Hopefully Fuji might improve the Eye detect in the next update or next release so looking forward to that.
Thanks for watching :-).
Also, about assigning button for eye detection...I am surprised that you missed that, you can assign any button. So that is one mistake by you.
Can you separate eye detect from the shutter? I couldn’t find a way to do that.
@@Sondercreative you talked about a button for face detection not about eye detection, which is a part of face detection. So no, that is no separate button for eye detection. It doesn't make sense.
Next you'll want a separate button for left eye and super for right eye....
Was this video shot on a7iii?
a7R III.
x-t3 is better , but is it worth paying $600 more like the price is right now compared to the x-t2? or better to use that $600 to buy a new lens.
I guess that depends on what you value more. Do you need the better AF and video features or are you content with the older model?
@@Sondercreative how worse is the auto focus on the x-t2 at night or in a lowly lit restaurant?
@@inquisitvem6723 It's very noticeable but does depend a lot on the lens you're using.
Slow wide aperture lenses will suffer much more than the faster newer lenses.
One way to go; buy bought! 😝😝😝
Sorry mate but the only thing I can agree is better C-AF on X-T3 and you actually never tested it. The single AF is absolutely identical and I personally never experienced issues with AF accuracy of X-T2 even in almost complete dark scene and you're telling us X-T2 struggles in daylight? In fact the X-T2 has better high ISO performance as well but you again never tested them on low light scene (insted you tested ithe high ISO on pretty well lit scene). Anyway good effort for the video review but not very accurate.
Of course I tested AF-C and AF-S. You not experiencing issues doesn’t mean it’s the best system lol. The X-T3 is better for AF even in single focus mode. The majority of shooting was done with single in this video.
Image quality wise the differences are minimal. Shooting in low light and having an underexposed scene would test the dynamic range at high ISO not the actual high iso performance. You need to have a well lit scene so you don’t need to recover the image thereby only testing high iso instead of testing dynamic range.
The two are different.
I have xt2 xh1 and xt3 and the af both afc and afc are much better on the Xt3, especially on the older glass. No more focus hunting. Simply very confident af acquisition on the Xt3.
The X-T3 is noticeably noisier (uglier noise too) at high ISOs and is significantly noisier using the electronic shutter compared to the X-T2 - not a big deal for everyone, but for some low light shooters, The X-T2 still has some advantages. While the X-T3 has better AF, I've never had any trouble with the X-T2 in extreme low light using AF-S.
Erik Baumgartner several tests I’ve done including what DPreview demonstrate with their studio comparison shows the XT3 is about the same when it come to noise performance. There’s very little to no difference. I mean I’m literally showing the difference in the video lol.
The AF on the XT2 isn’t troublesome it’s just the XT3 is better.
In real world use I repeatedly saw more artifact ridden noise at high ISOs with the X-T3 and the noise is significantly worse when using the electronic shutter. Since I often need the ES and I'm not a video guy, the X-T2 is still the better tool for me. The X-T3 went back and I will wait for the X-T4.
Xt2 Japan Xt3 China
XT3 still a better camera
@@Sondercreative Yeahh :)))))
So?
Does anyone have a fuji xt2 camera they'll like to sell...
considerably better colors? WTF? the colors are a bit different if you look it side by side and even then it is hard to notice... you trying to lure people into ditching X-T2 for X-T3?
You're looking at a highly compressed youtube video and the clip is from a screen recorder. I can see much more of a difference when looking at the RAW files on a properly calibrated screen.
Looks like a sponsor to jump over the XT3 without to mention real advantages, many other reviews point out real improvements which are mostly aimed at videographers, at the end of the day doesn't seem like a trusty review but thank you for trying
I reviewed the photography aspects more and stated it’s not that much of an improvement and literally said I didn’t want to focus on video in this one. I also said for photographers it’s not a huge upgrade. What are you even on about??
If it was sponsored I wouldn’t have said it’s not a huge upgrade man seriously are you even thinking before you comment?
@@Sondercreative Don't please take it bad or personal but after I heard couple times how bad is the AF on the XT2 I quit watching your video and, mind you, I am no Fuji fan, I own an old X-Pro1 which I will eventually update to an XT2 after I read so many good things about its AF so I just decided that watching the remaining part of the video would have been a waste of time and I always act like this when I hear about how bad is an old iteration of a camera when a new one pops out, I would have like to watch your XT1 vs XT2 review if you ever went through but to me it only sounded like all the good about XT3 so, apologize if it sounded rude, it was not my intention.
Best regards
@@GiovanniApreaCapri The AF is on the X-T2 is very good it's just that the X-T3 is better. This is to be expected when a new camera comes out. You can't expect old technology to remain the best on the market especially when companies are working really hard to improve what they have. The X-T3 is a better camera it's not from another manufacturer it's directly from Fuji. I didn't make it better Fuji did.
The reason I was a little harsher in my response is because you called my video sponsored which isn't true and if it were I'd have to make it clear. Calling my video sponsored is a cheap way to discredit what I say and what I find and all the work and time and effort we as a team put into this video.
@@Sondercreative I've been binging on youtube photo channels, lately, and I've never seen so many commentators antagonistic to the host - I think that you are being targeted, and you may wish to contact youtube to see if they can identify the origin of any suspicious activity .
Fellow Citizen I get the feeling it’s more the subject matter as opposed to being targeted. Maybe I’m just being optimistic:-).
How pro ... hire someone to shoot video who has to leg it halfway through
Because this isn't our actual jobs. CZcams is obviously not what we do for a living.
Wow! Just the info I was looking for. The X-T2 can't focus even in moderate low light?? The xt3, especially with Fuji's high priced lenses is totally out of my range, and I was considering a used xt2, but no thanks if the color accuracy and focusing is this bad. No wonder used xt2s are so inexpensive. Everyone must be dumping it. Probably the same problems with the xt20. Thanks for pointing this out! Great help!
I should clarify, the X-T2 has a great focus system and the colours are beautiful it's just that the X-T3 is better. This doesn't mean the X-T2 is bad; I mean it's an incredible camera and amazing value for money it's just that Fuji has now released a better camera which is generally to be expected with new releases.
@@Sondercreative I don't believe that is what you said and what I saw. The camera seems to be semi-OK, and I just can't see myself buying really expensive lens for this kind of performance and image. Thanks for the reply and thanks again for the review.
I've used both for low light shooting and still prefer the X-T2. any color differences between the two can easily be tweaked in Lightroom (or whatever).
Erik Baumgartner it’s not really an easy tweak. An easy tweak is adjusting WB tweaking colours takes more time and effort then that. Especially if the colour issues are present only in certain colours or areas of the image.
Easy to adjust and preset with the HSL sliders.
they are the same I see no difference a slight color difference
What kind of screen did you view the video on?
Agreed.
Errrr.... X-T3 ? Is that the question answered.....
Depends, if you don’t care about video then you could probably save some money and get the the XT2 and be satisfied with it.
Not an objective review
How would you improve it please?
