Our Afternoon Astonishment series is back! After a long break the Conjuror Community team is back delivering one of magic's most popular web series.
In this episode - Sponge and Card magic from the late Eugene Burger
In the video, Eugene Burger performs two tricks:
Sawing a red ball in half.
    Sponge ball routine.
In the first trick, Eugene Burger uses two red balls, one of which squeaks. He asks the spectator to hold one of the balls and then pretends to saw the other ball in half. He then opens his hand to reveal that the ball is still whole.
In the second trick, Eugene Burger uses three red balls. He asks the spectator to hold one of the balls and then pretends to make the other two balls disappear. He then opens his hand to reveal that all three balls are still there.
Both of these tricks are classic examples of Eugene Burger's magic. They are both very clever and entertaining, and they showcase his mastery of misdirection and sleight of hand.

I was lucky enough to attend one of his lecture/academies on the Trick that Cannot Be Explained. He was most gracious and wonderful. I will treasure that day as long as I live. Thanks for this episode.

Aaron, That was a Matt Schulien trick. It’s in one of the Burger books.

Correct. It was a Matt Schulien trick. Phil Willmarth (a friend of Gene's) wrote a book about Matt's Schulien and his magic. I don't know if it's still in print, but it is an excellent book.

At the Castle he was known as Eugene Fartburger, because he stunk up the close-up room.

Two magicians that everyone else thinks is awesome and I think aren't at all interesting: Eugene Burger and Juan Tamariz. I remember that initial Eugene Burger appearance when it originally screened. (on The Secret Cabaret, I believe.) I remember him as the least interesting magician on the show. Perhaps I haven't seen enough of the later stuff?

Both will thankfully be forgotten over time.

The clip is not from “the secret cabaret” it’s from John Fishers best of magic , I watched it in U.K. at the time when I was about 15 years of age.
