Suspended Water in Diesel: The Challenge for Tier 4/Euro 4 & Euro 5 Engines

Changes in engine technology have resulted in water causing detrimental effects on the combustion process. Previously, water was intentionally added to diesel fuel to improve emulsification and combustion. However, with modern engines operating at higher pressures and temperatures, the presence of water can lead to various issues like scar marks and steam formation within injectors, ultimately leading to failures. Even the slightest amount of suspended water can spell disaster for modern engines.
