What is your favorite thing about hiking? 😋😍
The beautiful Nature for sure :)
The potato salad!
Well at hiking in the Austrian Alps "Grüßen" is definitively a thing respectively seen as very rude not to do so.
Another thing is while being in the Austrian mountains meaning "high on the mountains while hiking or in Berghütten" (not in the villages) is to adress each other even Strangers with the informal "Du" as well..there is even an old saying/rule which says "Über 1000m sagt man Du" (Over 1000 meters there is to say "Du")
So in earlier times even noble Aristocrats even Kings from other countries visiting the Alps for socalled "Sommerfrische" (= holidays on the mountains) or the Emperor himself were adressed up in the mountains with the informal "Du"...unthinkable under normal conditions down in the valleys..where those were adressed formally with "Euer Gnaden" (Your Grace) or "Eure Majestät" (Your Highness) even today when current Royalty is visiting (the english and dutch Royals are coming almost every year in Winter for skiing and those are adressed by us - respectively by our hosts because obviously those are shielded from the avarage public - informally with "Du" on the mountains.)
Being around trees :)
"What did you do?" "Pipi" I love you guys
😅 hehe when nature calls!
@@DeanaandPhil Watch out for ticks, when you are going to pee in the woods next time !
Never pass up an opportunity to say hello, even if others don't say anything back, they will remember that you did❣
For me the best thing for hiking is to be alone somewhere in the nature, it's silent, only with the sound and smell of the nature.
I'm working in a hotel and usually there are a lot of people all the time, so in my days off and holidays,
I can't have to many people around me, so i enjoy the quiet areas a lot more.
Ohhh Yess! The sound of trees moving in the wind and birds chirping. It's such a wonderful feeling. We hope you find some peaceful silence during your next days off! 🤗💜
@@DeanaandPhil
the area of and around Vienna offers a lot of opportunities to do so and I can do that be train, what i really like and it brings back some wonderful memories of my childhood.
Thanks for your wonderful videos with all these ideas.👍👏
Today normal conversation is ruined by all the idiots trying to make money from their CZcams videos. Better just to walk on and not answer. I came here to see something from Harz but just found two exhibitionists.
When hiking it is customary to greet each other higher up in the alps when there are usually not that many people on the trail. Brocken is probably too low, too far north and too many day tourists on the popular hike to greet everyone.
In situations where you are not sure to greet, you can look into their face. If they look back greet, if they look into the ground or elsewhere don't greet.
@@bartolo498, when hiking in remote areas you usually great - regardless of the altitute or the region of Germany. There is a purpose behind it: greeting helps remembering people on the hiking track. In case they are lost or missing you could be able to describe them and where you saw them last.
Been watching for just over 9 months now, so cool
Thanks for sticking with us this long! 🤗💜
I love that coffee mug! So cute 😃
🤗💜
We have been in the Harz region for hiking several times. Last time in February we make some hikes in the snow. Was wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards Hannes & Janin
I visited a friend in Germany in 1994 and we hiked the Harz up to the Brocken! We went in the winter time though, so there was lots of snow! Thanks for the memory jog!
Oh cool! 😍 Were there are lot of people when you were there in 94?
It's very snowy and windy there in winter because it's so exposed. The climate is more alpine
Where I live, it's common curtesy to either say hi/hello, or at the very least smile.
Oh i love the edit!!!! Good job.
And hiking is awesome with the right equipment... we went to the zugspitze 3 weeks ago!! Awesome
Thanks man!
I missed you guy!!!! Thanks for the nature tour 😊
Hey Phil, have you taken Deana to the Hexentanz Weltrekord on April 30 yet? Looks like fun, dancing with the Witches whilst "shaken your bacon"! I'd love to see the festival through your eyes. Cheers from Colorado!
I love you guys!!! I`m actually learning German!!!
I'm also used to greet people while hiking..
in Aachen, in the forest, everybody does that, ( as far as I know... )
That's what we do in Aachen❤ and also in the wonderful Eifel🌲🌳🌿❤🌿🌳🌲
Awesome and amazing video nice shots my man with the GO PRO you are a freakin GENIUS 👍🏻😄
Cool, I cought up on your video 10 Mins after posting :D love you guys so much....and your trips in Germany...try out the south-west at the French border where I live...Saarbrücken...unfortunatelly more fun, when you can be outside.....the past 2 days were so cold now......10 Minutes from France...I know, France has severe Corona cases right now, but not our regional neighbours...and you can get real good food in the French supermarkets and fantastic Restaurants nearby
We really want to check out some more areas surrounding Germany. 😍 We are pretty hesitant at the moment with the increasing cases. Just hoping that the cases begin to decrease soon! We'd love to check out France and the mountainous borders (also to eat French food! 😋). Stay safe out there! 🤗💜
All the best for you.
Nice to see you guys taking the same route I did
I go there at Walpurgisnacht with Flugsalbe to join the circle almost every year.
6:53 “I want another sausage “ 😂😅
i remember a school trip up the brocken yeeeeaaars ago, that time there was snow on the top and we only got pea soup up there, and i usually don't eat it at all, because i don't like it, but i was hungry and it was warm and it was soo good :)
Favorite part of hiking for me is the peace and quiet coupled with amazing views. One interesting thing for me about hiking in Deutschland is the distance is sometimes in Time versus Kilometer. I noticed in your video the distance is in Kilometers. In the part of the Alps we hiked the signs were in time. Any thoughts as to why?
4:05 When I've been there with my mom we were wearing t-Shirts and summer pants down on the ground and when we got up with the steam train we had snow and ice cold winds up there :D
Did anyone notice? At 0:57 it says "1141 m". At 3:34 it reads "1142 m".
When I was a school kid, we learned that the Brocken summit was at 1142 m. Later, they found out that it's only 1141 m, but they put a massive stone onto the summit and wrote 1142 m onto it, so the one meter came back again. ^^
We will have to try this hike next time we travel to Germany. Thanks for the idea. As Canadians, we would say "Hi" to most everyone too. Just the way we roll. LOL
All people I know say hi, when meeting strangers on a hike :-)
I feel you bro. Aus Hannover
"Do you say hello to people?"
No, not hello but in my area we say "MOIN" ! 😃😃😃
In Austria everyone you meet greets you when you pass each other on the hick.
That is really true, I enjoy that about Austria
In Deutschland eigtl auch. Das sind halt die Ossis xD
True! And also when entering shops etc, love it
@@Schmissgesicht
i was sleeping in the hotel on top of the Broken during my hike on the Harzer-Hexentsieg, the best moment on the Broken was in the morning around 6 a.m.
Schöner Vlog! :)
It was cool to have met you up there :)
Greetings Robert ✌🏻
Likewise! :)
Schönes Video and love you guys!!
You guys definitely got lucky and it definitely is one of the most beautiful hikes i ever did, i didnt do a lot in my lifetime tho
I always did and usually I would get a smile or nod.
Wow, that’s a lot of people!
3:23 I've also been thinking about this everytime..
So, if you hike in the Alps and someone crosses your way, everyone greets.
What did you do? Pipi. haha XDDD Unsere gute Thüringer Rostbratwurst! :D
Tolles Video! :)
Ohh we'll have to check out Teufelsstieg! 🤗💜 Danke!
what Deana was saying about it being awesome even if it was the worst food, that’s what the first food after having a baby is like. i remember fondly the food in the hospital, i know it was typical hospital food, but it tasted wonderful
I love your videos.
We are glad you do! 🤗💜
In Bayern sagen fast alle Grüß Gott beim Wandern.
What a nice nature 💖
Dauert halt einige Jahrhunderte. Glück Auf
You make me hungry even with your hiking video, love german food
I don't know if it's just where I'm from in England, but dog walkers always say hello to other dog walkers!
Kleiner Tipp zum Parken, 300m Richtung Altenau ist ein kostenloser Parkplatz.
I miss the Volksmarches. Nothing like that here in the USA. Now if a bunch of Americans who are Deutch ancestery and who enjoy the culture could get a "Volksmarchen Association" together and host events in Montana and Colorado, that would be cool. 😎 🍺
Here where I live a hike doesn't have a pathed walkway.
Preferring Kartoffelsalat to fries is also quite German... but you forgot all about German bildung, though. This always has to go together with wandern. Mens sana in corpore sano.
So homework for the next vid is to prepare a recitation and literary commentary of the Walpurgisnacht from Goethe's Faust:
etc.
Haha. You are in my home area.
Hope you got a Brockenhexe as a souvenir.
Eine Brockenwanderung ist was Feines
Right. Same for me. After sport or hard work in the sun i like a cold water best. But carbonated, because the following "hill billy burp" is part of the fun.
One thing is scary and pisses me off: the high amount of dead and brown trees.
Btw. Phil looks a bit bobafettish with his antennae camera. Film on...
At last. Best is: you do the walking and i only have to watch.
walking through a dead forest - wonderfull germany!
be the change that you want to see in the world. always say hello, nod, wave...acknowledge the people you see on the trail. some will return the greeting, others will not. it may take weeks, months, years but eventually everyone will join in. and then, one day, people will realize that we are all sisters and brothers in the world, together on our planet.
"Hi!" or not:
I´d say if the others look like they do hiking somewhat more regulary, the chances for it are much greater than with the ones who seem to just do a walk.
5:23 Thank You Phil
Schöner Ausflug! :)
Wie heißt denn das Lied am 6:10? Shazam findet es nicht... :D
Coconut - (dyalla remix)
czcams.com/video/_2UiKoouqaY/video.html
Yes Deanna like you I want to say Hi to acknowledge people as I am walking. I guess that is more of an American thing to do.
The CUP!! 👍 😃
And yeah... hiking is nice! If you're in good condition, and don't do it everyday ^^
If you like hiking, come ans visit the Schwarzwald. Not as crowded and more spots...
Fries or Potato Salad?! That's the question! 😁
Both and share with meeeeee!
What is the song in the beginning of the video?? It’s chill af 😋
@@Ashley-jp4nn it's "Coconut - Dyalla remix"
2:50 Looks Like the Hogwarts train😂😂
Never seen a real steam train before????
Gotta say: that would have been too crazy many people for me, and trail not interesting enough either. When I hike, I don't want to be surrounded by hundreds of people and I much prefer any sort of natural path.
But, living in the South, I guess I got some "geographical advantages" when it comes to finding hiking trails, so I just skip this sort of "tourist" destination thing ...
I would look at the other hiker/s and if make eye contact, I would smile or wave and most would do the same. Some people don't make eye contact and that is okay.
Grüße aus dem harz
Looks great! Don't they care about corona in the Biergarten?
👍
Why is eating part the best thing about hiking? Isn't it normal in America?
Again with the sausage 😆
Come to Arizona and I'll take y'all hiking, deserts to mountains to canyons!
Only in Germany will you find a national park over run with biergsttens.
Yes, realy a big part is totaly "Tod"
Release the Brocken 🐙
😂😂😂
I'm from the Harz and to greet the other hikers is normal. Hikers who don't greet are tourists.
For me is hiking family time and time with the family is the best. :D
As a hiker you Greet other hikers
I would say that it is customary to greet each other when you meet while hiking or walking in nature. However, if you constantly meet someone, as you do in the video, the behavior tends to approach that in the city and you no longer greet each other every time.
The wooded areas are beautiful! The American forestry could learn, CLEAN UP YOUR WOODS! This is why California is burning! To much debris!
It seemed like most people left with what they brought. 😍
🤦🏻♀️
This is so true, California needs to learn forestry management
Don't forget to rake the forest like in Finland
