Preston Model Railway Show 2024 - Part 2

- This impressive show was held in the Sports Hall (and the squash court!) of Preston College in Preston in the north west of England.
The exhibition was organised by the Preston & District Model Railway Society and featured an excellent show guide booklet for an extra £1.
We had fun with our travel and managed to use the services of ScotRail, TransPennineExpress, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry all in one return trip!
For layouts we have featured in earlier videos we try to concentrate on new features and/or different rolling stock if possible.
This video comprises four parts and we visited Preston on 2nd March 2024.

Nice to see the second part. I wish it had come before the third!!
They are published in the right order via CZcams. Do you have notifications set for your channel subscription? Sometimes we have videos on Fridays as well as Mondays so being notified by CZcams is the best way not to miss any.
I’m noticing that more and more exhibition layouts are being given DCC Sound. This can only be a good thing because it both looks AND sounds more realistic!!
You are correct, a lot more layouts are DCC these days. Although the sound can be a bit quiet in large halls, it really does enhance the layouts. O gauge with sound are the loudest though and really impressive.
I believe the strange looking wagon on the front of the Pannier Tank is known as a shunting trolley. Am I right?
I believe so, not totally sure but looks like it assists with the wagon shunting.
I bet there was not a tt120 layout does that tell you something
You are correct, there were no TT:120 layouts at the Preston show. There are a couple in the Model Rail Scotland videos but they were on the Hornby and Hornby Magazine stands - that also tells you something!
The TT thing. It always seems there's a long list of models or types of this and that , gaps in the market. They say how much it costs to put different models into production yet starting another RTR scale seems like more choice with less options
@@grahampartridge9335Yes, there is not really enough choice to make different TT layouts unless other manufacturers join in as well. If it's just Hornby then probably wont see a lot of them at shows for a long time. Be interesting what Hornby announce next week regarding the TT range.
Where about is Scarlington? Or is it a made up name for an actual coastal location?
I believe its a made up name for a generic north east location, bit of Scarborough and Darlington maybe?
