@@117Industries tbh mate it all depends on 3 factors:
1. How intense and quickly you wish to get around the hills on the patrol
2. How fit the team already is
3. How experienced your team are
I had a team thrown together and got 2 weeks back in wales to get my team âhill fitâ. I had 1 guy that had done Cambrian before (luckily he was in Recce troop with me) and the only person with operational experience was me. (I was the 2IC and only Recce Commander in the team)
Iâd been training to go back on selection so I knew the hills like the back of my hand (was a big help when the clag came in on the patrol btw lol) and the remainder of my team was also relatively fit so that also helped. But the biggest factor is itâs a team effort and everyone has to be able to have an input. Be that med, the CTR, the overall keeping track and writing of everything you see on the patrol (after all it is a long range Recce patrol and there is always a back brief to be delivered at the end of any patrol) down to just keeping everyoneâs morale up. No one can finish it alone (well you could but you wouldnât get anything lol)
What people donât realise about when we did it was that one of my troopers unfortunately got run over whilst on that 2 week prep week and got killed by a heavy goods lorry so that gave us even more determination to succeed.

If youâve done it you know how it is, if you havenât and you get the opportunity to do it, I strongly advise it to anyone that ever asks me as it is one of the best mental and physical tests you can put yourself through outside of operations đŹđ§đŹđ§
In total 8 gold medals were given and 5 were won by Gurkha regiment

I done this 4 times in the 80's, first time we came second and i spent the next 3 years trying to win it never did, best i done after the first year was 3rd, It used to be called the Cambrian marches and it was 4 days for regulars and 2 days for TA, respect to anyone who completes this, well done guys
I've heard that this is one of the toughest training cycles in Europe for Troopers on the ground but well worth the experience in the knowledge and tactics gained. Just watching the clip my feet hurt Lmao!

I've not seen any country's military worry too much about us Lefties... At least my Issue Beretta M-9 had ambidextrous safeties.

@@remybanjoholden989 fair enough, I thought it said in the video it was an infantry based exercise. REME 103 Bn seem to do it regularly when I Google it.

Smart move handicapping everyone by making them carry an L85...heavy thing to lug around compared to most modern service rifles...
Did it back in the mid 80s..I had a lot of non issue gear..the DS were not happy with what I was using...
I did this with the ccf very recently. Insane experience. Looking forwards to doing it again
i did this in cadets when i was about 15 and even though it was a slightly watered down version it still killed. Tried our best though and finished with bronze

Is that why British units that have a choice of what service weapons they use choose ArmaLites and Colt Commando variants, never using the SA-80? It has been that way for almost 60 years now.
