    The AKG 712 pros are going to be my next and probably last headphones. I started with a pair of AKG 140's 30 years ago. At the time, I really wanted to buy the more "popular" Bose, but the pushy salesman convinced me about the AKG's. I have no regrets about that decision. Now I own the classic AKG 240's the (big brother to the 140's) and despite their low price I have not really thought about replacing them. They are that good ! With that said, the AKG 712's will probably take me to HI-FI heaven ! Thanks for the review, glad there are some AKG fans out there .

    I have a pair of AKG K172 Pro headphones, which I got for only €198. I think it's an absolute bargain for what these headphones are.
    At that time, I was looking for something higher-end and tried the Hifiman Ananda and Arya, the Audeze LCD-2C, and the Meze Audio 109 Pro.
    Finally, when I found the offer for the AKGs and saw such good reviews, I decided it was a better investment to buy them and see how they performed, rather than risking spending much more.
    That's why I like these comparisons, because if at some point I decide to buy something more expensive and theoretically better, I would like to be sure that I will really notice a difference. Right now, I'm attracted to the Hifiman Arya Organic, but they cost €1300... they have to sound much better for me to buy them.

    Fund a pair of these marvelous AKG712 PRO at 150USD delivered and it was the best headphone purchase I ever made. I cannot believe the music quality these output. I just came back from Japan and I compared them for couple of hours of listening in a second hand audio gear shop with the HD800 and HD800S. I couldn't believe how close these 712 sounded to the top Sennheiser top ends headphones. The 800 I fund them annoying as there was a high pitch in some songs that really bothered me. The 800s they were more neutral and toned down in the highs and fund them more similar to the AKG but still I could listen to a more enjoyable and detailed mids in the AKG at least on my ears. I listened back and forth for nearly 2 hours also using different amplifiers. AKG made a jewel with these 712 pro and I cannot believe you can pick them up for a fraction of the 800s price. Also much more easy to drive and so light and portable. My ears they do touch the inside driver and I wish there was a little more pads thickness but you get used to it and it does not bother me much after few minutes. These cans are a bargain for what they can offer!! Thank you AKG!!!!!!!

      The Sennheiser 800 have 300ohm while the K712 have what 80 ohm ? If you plug the K712 to an phone, the K12 will sound obviously better because to feed the 300ohm of the sennheiser will take power that a phone simply does not have, but if you plug both headphones to an amp that is able to support at least 300ohm, the difference between the 2 has to be substantial.

    The mids might seem weird is because they may sound a little recessed? I had the 712's and for $300 I prefer them over my HD600. They are more fun to listen to. I sold the 712's and purchased the 7xx from Massdrop. They are the same as the Q701's. Just less expensive. With the 2 decibel bump ( like the Q701) they are a fun headset to listen too. Wide soundstage and very detailed along with Annies( 712 pads) make them a bargain at $200.00. They are on sale at Massdrop. Another AKG that is worth looking at is the AKG 220( same as the 240's) also on sale at Massdrop. Metal 571 does a good review on these as the 240's.... Good Luck!

      Peter Mota They are a little recessed, but not like too bad. It still sounds a bit strange. I sold my K712s for the Monolith M1060. The M1060 are SUPERB! They were a step up from the K712s, but it wasn't a huge step. The M1060 sound better than some $1000+ headphones for sure. Yeah the K7XX are actually very good headphones for the money.

      240's have no bass at all, just very generic. they are good to listen to classic music or something but if you try to listen to electronic and such, they fall very far behind compared to the dt 990 pro 250 ohms, I'm comparing them with. It's a huge difference. I hope the 712's don't have same issue as I'm aiming at those too.

    Would you recommend these K712 Pro for classical music? I have the MSR 7 and the Sony Z7 and I love both but I was looking for a set of open back headphones. I was nearly buying the massdrop HD6XX for 200USD but canceled it as I did not like the HD600 I demo in Japan last month as it was too dry for my taste. I fund now a pair of these K712 Pro for 235Usd delivered to Australia. Do you think may be suited for classical and Jazz and do you think are a good value for this price? These or do you recommend something else? I will use my LG V20 to drive them so 60+ ohms impedance is what suit the bill for me as it can turn on my phone in high impedance mode and it sounds really good as long I don't use headphones with too much impedance like the 300 ohms Sennheiser. From my PC I am using a Creative Titanium HD and it sounds really good but with some tracks I could use more power from an amp like in classical music. I generally need to max the volume in the PC at 100% but about 80% on my LG20 phone which it is really powerful (with my 70 ohms Sony MDR Z7). Thank you for this video.

    Hey I have HD600 and K702 right now. Both have their own advantages. I have a question though.
    When compared to the HD600 the K702 sounds much less detailed. HD600 sound is sharp while K702 sounds smoothed out. Do you know if the K712 has that also? I really like the K702 bass and mids, but it just sounds like all the detail is missing and the soundstage is a bit too big.

    • @SamualWilliams
      @SamualWilliams  Před 6 lety

      pasi123567 Absolutely not. The K712 are extremely detailed. The detail was actually comparable to the HD800. They are very analytical sounding headphones. You will pretty much hear everything. The mids are odd, but I absolutely love the mids on them. I would say they are a poor man's HD800 almost. They have a bit more bass than the HD800, but the highs aren't as sibilant. They are fantastic sounding headphones.

    • @mistersurrealist
      @mistersurrealist Před 2 lety

      The K702s are absolutely NOT "less detailed" than the HD600s. I own both and I should know it.
      In fact I think I get slightly more detail on the K702s, it's just that their soundstage is so massive that the mids sound a bit recessed compared to the very intimate/claustrophobic HD600. They're both great headphones, but completely different flavors. They each present music in wildly different/opposite ways.

    • @pasi123567
      @pasi123567 Před 2 lety

      @@mistersurrealist Man I tried so many things since I wrote that comment. My opinion has changed a lot. The problem the K702 has is mainly that the huge soundsatge makes the center image dissapear a little, so sounds are more diffused and less in your face. Since the HD600 has a very close soundstage everything seems more detailed and focused. Depends on the music which to prefer.
      I also had the K712 since then. It is basically a more studio oriented K702. More detail, bit less soundstage, more center image but definitely bigger in sound than a HD600. To me the K712 really sounds like the perfect studio headphone but the K702 is better for music listening in my opinion.
      I tried a lot of things and came to the conclusion that the K702 is my endgame. It has this nice texture to strings, like you can hear them decay more or idk how to describe it but they sound more like they would in an actual room. Almsot no other headphone I tried had this effect. Not even in the 700$ range. The only other one with similar effect was the DT880 but I dislike the bass on that one.

    your ability to create a narrative using many words is weak. When I was 18 the average vocabulary was 55,000 words , today it has shrunk to 9,000 words, no words,= no ability to create a meaningful narrative. I've owned two hd 800 and they literally fall apart, worst built headphone i've ever owned and I paid $1500 and $1300 respectively, Of course the wire I use to hook them up with is my own, patented audio cable that is
    more linear in sound than anything ever made. The sound is linear and cohesive because the wire that I use is internally a litz stranded cable with magnet wire that is so tiny, it can't be seen in my hand unless I shine a light that can reflect off the polysol enamel coating, I'm rambling again, but it is lonely at the top.
