- The full match replay of the 2019 Major League Rugby Championship between the San Diego Legion and Seattle Seawolves on June 16, 2019 @ Torero Stadium.
San Diego Legion entered the Championship Final as the #1 position after defeating Rugby United New York in the Playoffs. The Seattle Seawolves defeated the Toronto Arrows for their second appearance in the final, and a shot at defending their Championship Title.
Good game America. Keep on going, I’ve been watching MLR since last year, and it’s growing. Love it. From NZ.
I sincerely hope it does grow. I'm an American who recently spent some time learning about it and wow, what a sport! Such a great spirit about it as well. I'm doing my part: bought season tix for next season!
CZcams Censors
I do hope so. And that’s great man, keep it up.
I’m impressed with the quality of the games, given that it only just started last year. The addition of RUNY was great and they were very competitive.
If the US take this game seriously like in the 7s, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
Can’t wait for next year with more teams.
@@sionesione956 World Cup coming up. Doubt we'll do well, as long as we can beat someone, I'd be happy. I think we start with England...
CZcams Censors well england are kings at choking so i wouldn’t put it past them
since you’re from NZ do u think we have a chance for rugby to get popular here?
This is amazing. It may be small now, but whoever made MLR knows this will be a lot more popular in the next 5 years - 10 years.
Well done USA for a success MLR season. These two clubs are really good. From a British well-wisher.
Thanks, I'm an American who recently really put some time in learning about Rugby. What a sport! Great culture/mindset around it. Once I watched a match I was hooked. Bought season tix for next season. Quick question: any suggestions for a team to support for primiere rugby? After a bit of research, I like the Wasps.
@@youtubecensors5419 Wasps are a great club. I guess it depends on whether you think you will ever visit England. If you visit London you could go to a Harlequins game or a Saracens game. Saracens are a better team, but Harlequins are a more popular club. If you wanted to see more of England, Bath is a beautiful city surrounded by beautiful countryside, and isn't too far from London. The difficulty though might be getting a ticket as I think they are hard to get if you don't have a season ticket. Bristol are another good option. Not far from Bath. They have a huge stadium so you'll get a ticket no problem. I don't actually support a particular team but I think I will support Bristol. I live in South West England but not in one of the cities with a professional rugby team.
@@chesterdonnelly1212 Great reply, thanks a lot! I'll stick with the Wasps.
@@youtubecensors5419 good choice. Wasps are a great club. And their stadium is one of the biggest in the English Premiership, so if you do ever come to England you will be able to get a ticket to watch them, no problem.
In MLR rugby I will support the Seawolves because my sister and her family are from Seattle.
CZcams Censors I’ve supported Sale Sharks the past 4 years. They have AJ McGinty (USA Eagle) Ashton and Solomona (2 Ex League players) and the best Rugby player in the world in Faf DeKlerk. Wasps are good. No one will call you a glory hunter.
Rugby needs to become more popular is the US
What a game!!! A ton of action that you’d want in a rugby union final!! Absolute pleasure to watch! The crowd was awesome, an overflowing stadium, the energy, the roller coaster ride of emotions!! Great rugby union ending to a great season, can’t wait for season 3 to start!!!
San Diego played more exciting rugby, but Seattle played cleaner and more opportunistic rugby, and as often happens, that won out.
Michael Cruz Brother. Do you bring out the fam and we go to SD vs Free Jacks game or do we do the Las Vegas weekend and watch both games that day? Thank God for MLR!!!!!
If rugby goes big in America it's going to be awesome
Champaign rugby like this is what's going to make MLR grow continuously throughout the Americas. Tough luck SD but well done Seawolves on retaining the championship.
enjoying MRL from cape town South Africa
Shaheen Hendricks Well done this year in final! 🏉🏆
My first MLR game. Seattle just got a new fan from Samoa, boo ya
💯 Congratulations Seattle Seawolves
Unlucky San Diego. I know next season you guys will come back stronger. Have a 🍺 and enjoy the off season🏉
Running out of rugby to view here in lockdown England, but found this. Well done USA. What great game! I'm now a subscriber to USMLR.
Thanks for posting! I’ve been excited to watch this since I missed it live on CBS.
🤩🤩🏉🎉💙💚
This was a great final! Looking forward to seeing MLR expand.
Great match and a wondrful advert for rugby. Congrats Seattle!
first time watching the MLR (from england) real spot on by the commentators explaining the sport as it goes along, i know for me american football is hard to understand because they say loads of shit i really don't understand.
Taylor Wilson Yeah, goes both ways. I’m not new to rugby, but at one point, I was completely clueless until college. It was completely foreign to me. Now I play it in my spare time with my buddies.
amazing! just what you want from a tournament final! cant wait to see how mlr expands in 2020! best wishes from UK!!
So...let's see. 2018 - Glendale beats Seattle twice, then both play for the title which results in a Seattle win. 2019 - San Diego beats Seattle twice, both play for the title and the result is... another MLR championship for Seattle. I'm seeing a trend here...when the pack goes hunting, the rest of the league had better be on notice!!! Congratulations, Seattle Seawolves. (And thanks to CBS and Major League Rugby for posting the 2018 and 2019 videos on CZcams for those of us who had no ability to watch the games. I am currently in Russia visiting my in-laws with my wife, proudly wearing my Seattle Seawolves polo shirt and celebrating the win. Other sports should take a page from MLR and proudly post their games a week after they have been played).
The Seawolves are the Sounders of MLR.
What a game
This game is really fun. It's going to be big give it 5 years.
Shah Alladin I agree!!
Seattle Seawolves have yet to be number 1 in ranking yet wins every finals.
Absolutely gutted. First off congrats to Seattle Seawolves for playing exciting Rugby the past 2 seasons. And an even bigger shout out to the Seattle fans who are phenomenal. The away support is amazing. Went to 2 SD Legion games this year. MLR is hands down the best sporting value in this country. $33 adult and $25 kids tickets and I’m front row! And they play the replays on CZcams for free. These owners are going to be paid handsomely for their investment in time. Can’t wait for ATL, DC and. Boston soon. This league is #1 for me in the USA/Canada. 🇺🇸🇨🇦🏉
By far the best telecast by CBS of the year. The product is improving quickly...but not toooo quickly! Fantastic match!
The commentary is very very good!
Really amazing game to watch! Good to see usa talent making it
Great game, move over Rugby World here come the Americans.
Ehh we're a ways off still. Too much competition with more popular sports right now
Half the players aren't USAmerican though lol.
Magnifique !
What a game!! What a batlle. Rugby is getting more and more popular in USA
strange decision to drop goal and give seattle the ball with 3 minutes left, should have just kept possesion.
To be fair, it does force Seattle to go all the way to get 5 rather than just close enough to get 3 in the event of a turnover. Problem was the high tackle.
@@stevendebettencourt7651 if you had 10 or 15 minutes left id agree, but they only had to retain possession for 5, bad call on the kickers part, you never see top tier teams do this.
@petnzme01 I thought the same. Just should have kept it as far up the field as possible.
good to see rugby grow in USA ! you can become a big nation of rugby ! cheers from france !
12 months later and it's all gone. Hope too see it back next year.
Those Seawolves jerseys... my god 😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Listening to that in stadium announcer drone on all game would drive me crazy, shut up and let us hear the game ourselves. Is this common at all MLR games?
Soon enough, USA will be another hotspot for club rugby. Great stuff MLR.
Have the commentators wardrobe for the playoffs been supplied by the Vermont Flannery by chance? 😉
God bless 10s that drop goals
Didn't know rugby is such popular in the US that the crowd fills the stadium! The US is potentially strong at many sports, so should be at rugby! Can't wait for the next world cup to see how the US will be much stronger! Cheers from Japan
Great game, but they really need to get better announcers. They didn't even notice that it was past the 80-minute mark.
what an ending!
I'd be curious to know how CBS' ratings for this were. Also - they should revise the rolling maul - not get rid of it, but somehow make it more spectator-friendly.
Zel Believe the viewership was 510,000 households.
@@ratedrko111 Many thanks. Is there an online source for that?
All we need now is an Oklahoma team!
Need to get across the line in the final seconds. Put all the big boys up front and smash it in for back to back titles.
Where should I have seen this scenario before. Hmm...
I was one of the kids in the yellow I was the first one to the left
Why no helmets?
In rugby it's not mandatory to have helmets
Only thing close to a helmet would be a headgear for some players
!
Hi
The amount of knock on is too damn high
We got to spread the game.
I agree the mistakes were tolling, but we were all newbees at some point in the road, I'm just glad we're all stable this time 'round
Looking back on it, I personally wouldve pulled out the yellow card, but it wouldve been a good yellow card. amazing unintentional hit. Sloppy game, but good game.
that was the worst decision making in the final three minutes of that game. The only reason why the legion lost
Was a great game. However the I guess San Diego fans never heard of respecting the kicker.
this is how MLR is than i would like to see the world cup rugby held here or staged here in America
There are talks about America mabey bidding for the 2027 world cup
@petnzme01 I agree, they need to atleast be able to make the quarters if they are going to host. I think 2035 will be a better option for them
@@ruangreyling2073 japan hadnt made the final. I reckon if the us get gold in the olympics theyre good
@@Tom-vu1wr 7s is much different from 15s and the 15s team needs to be competitive in order to host. Japan won their pool and made it to the quarters.
@@ruangreyling2073 ye lol but not before hosting it
My colorblind eyes can’t tell what’s going on here.
MLR > NFL
03 AI I’ve been to many NFL games and even a Super Bowl and I agree with you.
Rugby league seems like it would make better television for a sport that is new to most people. Not sure why they went with union
Union is much more of a global sport.
League seems to struggle for traction outside of Australia.
At least the final could have been played in a proper stadium. This one looks like a high school stadium. I mean, surely USMLR lacks financially, but at least the final.....
What you want to put several thousand fans in a 30000 seater?
Attendance for the 2019 MLR Championship was a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans.
Change the championship trophy from a shield to a drum and call it a cup. .
CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY IDEA:
Fabricate from Silver & nickel alloy a replica REVOLUTIONARY WAR
DRUM with a 4 inch deep raised MLR logo on top. Incorporate brass top lip and bottom lip. Emboss yearly champions on side and MLR logo on top. Use flintlock musket trigger guards as cup handles. Fabricate rattlesnake lookalike rattlers on the lower stems of handles. Emboss repeating wolf and bear claws around top lip and bottom lip of cup.
Call it the Slater Cup (The First USA rugby Captain to win Olympic gold).
Make it Unique!
@petnzme01
Youre fact claims are wrong. A simple search could have saved you from looking very STUPID. LOL.
Successful MLR Podcasters said they like my idea and will pass my idea on to high up MLR people. Many people pushed the like button on other channels.
Makes your opinion mean ZERO.
WW1 ended 1918.
USA won Olympic gold twice. In 1920 Antwerp and on 1924 Paris.
Colby Slater Captained USA Rugby Team in both Gold Medal matches.
John Woodgate Current trophy is terrible.
@@usarugbyleagueunionfan Yes I agree.
John Woodgate I love MLR. I watch a ton of Rugby all over the world. Love our league.
@@usarugbyleagueunionfan I do to. 18 team MLR league is best with relegation of 4 teams into a lower division league ideal. Season start and finish dates are great. Not a Basketball fan. LOL. MLR team logos should be mascot compatible not like old glory or new orleans. Stay away from soccer crests. MLR Owners should partner with MLS for venues. Venues should be logo interchangeable. Teams need to ramp up merchandise to brand the fans. Much like AFL in Australia. I think I have covered everything from Champoinship Trophy to venue.
5:38 Not rules! Laws!! LAWS!!!
I'm crying here. You've broken an old man's heart.
And don't get me started on the rucks and mauls. When this sport was still fit for human beings, ALL the forwards used to get to breakdown and join in as fast as possible.
So just be done with it.
Restart after a tackle with the scrumhalf toeing the ball through the mark. Hell, go ahead and abolish the wing forwards.
G-d knows they all dress now like League players anyway. More ads than a Talladega GTO superstocker.
At least my little spaniel/poodles Tighthead and Loosehead didn't live to see this travesty.
But I'm not bitter.
Legion just hates to win so much they kick it away every time.
The comentator that was actually at the game was terrible
Questionable refereeing
What calls did you not like.
Thought this was Rugby League but its Union kinda sad..
Union will never make it in america its too different. Rugby League is alot more like NFL more likely to win over fans.
@Valcor League has very little presence in the US. I don't think that "it's more like NFL" is the selling point you think it is. We already have the NFL. Different is good and interesting.
@Valcor Have to disagree. I like union because it is different. League is okay, but honestly, I’d rather watch gridiron football than league any day.
Also, while I understand the use of the word league in this case is very confusing to people outside of the USA, but in America, Major League simply refers to the highest level (professional) of that particular sport, much like Major League Baseball (MLB) or Major League Soccer (MLS). Considering aspects of the MLR’s model is based off MLB and MLS, the name selection is not surprising, albeit confusing for those that don’t know any of this.
Scam! This is not rugby league, but the slow and conservative version of rugby.
On several occasions in the second half, we were able to note there were too many defenders on the field, and the last two tries of the match were typical of rugby union. Was not the last try a disgrace to rugby, and to players safety?
America, drop rugby union and switch with rugby league!
what was wrong with the last try? you dont like rolling mauls?
@@zel3888 Who was carrying the ball? Has the ball carrier put the ball on the ground? Without slow-motion, it is unclear. And these heavy players who collapse on each other, do you like that? Even some backs have participated in this masquerade of rugby.
You don't like players safety ? You don't like clear actions?
This rule that allows team-mates of the ball carrier to bind to him, isn't it archaic from security point of view, and for entertainment? Why has rugby league got rid of this rule?
@@daunte8106 well I agree mauls should be changed to make the action clearer to spectators. But I wouldn't like mauls to be removed entirely - I think the option to use team strength to force through the opposition occasionally makes it a richer game. But you are right it should be made safer and more clear to spectators
@@zel3888 And how would you make mauls clearer? By limiting the number of players allowed to participate? So there would be forwards who would not serve any more in this phase ? This is the solution the 13-men code has found more than 110 years ago.
Furthermore, you know what team strength promotes. And the 15-men code is already riddled with PEDs.
@@daunte8106 league is a great game, but rugby has the vaiety of mauls and rucks and scrums. I wouldnt want to change that, but just revise mauls a little. Maybe by making it that you must score the try to the side of the maul, or that the maul cannot go past the try line or something, forcing them to break the maul at the last second and running the ball for the try.
