Hi, I want to use a compactor to compact the 3/4inch footing gravel and later the gravel beneath the slab. What weight and Centrifugal Force unit should I use. Would a 3420lb/f with a Operating Weight of 194 lbs do the trick. Thank you

Thank you very much for this video. Indeed CZcams never had a video that compares the two and thus informing us DIY or builders which one would be the best to choose. For instance I recently removed suspended wooden flooring and I am planning to be filling the void with filling soil. Filling soil is a soil type that you can make a ball with in your hand while it's not really wet. It is easy to compact. I have to fill about 6 rooms in total and I am at a stage where I must choose between a plate compactor or a jumping jack. One thing I don't understand about Plate Compactors is that in specifications they talk about Centrifugal Force in KiloNeutons (ranging between 10 and 14kN) instead of specifying the impact depth like they do for jumping jacks. Can you please clarify whether centrifugal force relates to compaction depth or not? Thanks in advance.

Nova Caldera You are very welcome. Centrifugal Force is the force generated in pounds by the plate itself as it vibrates or hammers. The greater the centrifugal force the farther/deeper it’s going to compact. Taking into consideration the type of soil that you will be compacting, I would go with the jumping Jack. The golden question now is how deep are you trying to compact? How large are the rooms?

Thank you so much for your reply. Much appreciated. The rooms have various sizes with the smallest being 15 square inch to the largest being 19 square inch. The depth of soil to be compacted is about 6 inches.

Nova Caldera That’s not too bad. Check out the MTX70HDR or the 60.

Thank you so much. I will most certainly do. What is your view on the Plate Compactor Wacker Neuson MP15? Can it do the kind of job I described?

    • @salcoequipment905

Wacker and Neuson is a reputable brand. The mp15 is small unit. I'm not familiar with the specs of that unit. My vote is still for the jumping jack just because of the soil you will be compacting. Are you looking to rent or purchase? Many companies offer a really good package deal.
