There are thousands of love songs sung sweetly and strummed softly by a big guy with a big heart. But there's only one William Prince. The singer-songwriter from the Peguis First Nation has a disarming presence at the Tiny Desk - his voice warm, eyes smiling.
Prince had flown into Washington, D.C., on a red-eye flight. Jetlagged, he took a long nap on one of our couches, roused himself, then quietly commanded the room. These songs, two of which are from his 2023 album Stand in the Joy, swoon at the wonders of love, but more importantly give partners space to grow and bloom over time. Prince had performed a Tiny Desk (home) concert in 2021, so here he improvises a little song of gratitude with a wink: "I'd thought the Desk would be tinier."

Boy that spoken word lead-in in the first song just gets your mind to begging for him to sing. And then he does and it’s more than you can ever have hoped for…Knocked the breath out of me.

Saw him in Vancouver the past month. I have seen hundreds and hundreds of musicians and this is the very first musician where his words touched the soul so much the tears were drippin’. So talented.

The instant feeling of peace and calm I got as soon as he started singing... Just wow. Frisson to a T. The way he adds an element of story telling to his songs and makes it sound so natural is just astounding.

Our first dance together as a married couple was to Breathless, and we can't wait to hear "our song" live together in March. Way to go, William! So glad to see all these people experiencing your music for the first time.

Met him at the Forks once in Winnipeg. We talked a few minutes. He noticed my limp and asked me about it. It moved me that he noticed my post surgery limp. Says alot about him.
