I find that the creativity part of my job is now secondary to the admin of running my business 😩

Another comic artist who watches Midwest Magic Cleaning! In my second burnout era, I ended up finding a lot of cleaning channels to watch because it became my comfort food when I couldn't do what I used to enjoy doing (hobby-into-job high five)! Subscribing for the relatable neurospice, comics and tummy hurts.

I have autism (ASD), and I'm certain I have ADHD too. and I have multiple things to do so that I don't get burn out with my main hobby!
For me, it's almost necessary to take activities 'little and often' because if I get sucked into something I just go and go and go and then lose all appetite for it for months on end - or even years, I used to do a lot of writing, fan fiction stuff, but I literally haven't typed a sentence in years and years, which makes me sad, as I have loads of ideas, but zero appetite and motivation.
So yeah, little bites, then stop, do something different and keep rotating through hobbies and activites to maintain some momentum without getting bogged down and turned off.

I get it. I'm not in the same boat, but adjacent enough situation to empathize. For what it is worth.

I'm learning how to draw and on the burnout cycle I'm definitely at stress build up when it comes to drawing heads and hands and reptiles

It's like I'm listening to myself, though we've both had chats about struggling with enjoying finishing our comics after trauma-related delays. Sending love, and burnout recovery vibes. Touch grass. Read books. Consume without creating. You're more than your art and comics, and so is life

Feeling this very strongly. I'm not doing comics myself (in an uncharacteristic moment of practical thinking; younger me just assumed that wasn't a realistic avenue) but I did turn my other major hobby into my job, and it only took about a year before I was completely and utterly burned out, and it's taken months to try and get back to normal.
Still not convinced I'd prefer going back to the soul crushing monotony of a regular job though, lol

I completely agree with you. As an autistic writer with ADHD, I started writing to educate people about autism. My passion turned into a career, and just 3 years later I stopped writing. Total block to this day.
I'm just trying to remember why I started writing again.

It's not the thing we love that burns us out. It's capitalism and the need to profit that cause the burnout I would think. I mean anything can get tiring if you do it too much. Even something you LOVE to do. But the fact that we NEED to do stuff when we'd rather just take a break is 100% capitalism. If we didn't need to worry about things like rent, food, healthcare and all that would we push ourselves so hard? I kinda doubt it. We would just do what we want. Work would just get done at a healthy pace.
