My grandmother was from Bagheria, Sicily. She immigrated with her mother and siblings to Buffalo, NY in 1922. She often spoke of the place as being very romantic--almost mystical. She loved the balconies everywhere, and recalled how, in the evenings, you could sit outside on these balconies and musicians would go around serenading with guitars and violins. At 8:01, it shows a public library. My great grandfather's name was Ferdinand Scaduto. His family owned lemon orchards and, according to my grandmother, shipped lemons the size of grapefruits all over the world. He was educated and came to the US before WWI to start a business, in Buffalo. When the war broke out, he returned against the advice of those around him. He could not bear the thought of not seeing my great grandmother and his children, again. He was forced into the Italian Army upon arrival in country, and eventually perished in the war. My great grandmother went to stay with him for a few weeks in a hospital in France, while he recovered from severe frost-bite. He was sent back to the trenches as soon as he could walk, again. He was not a physically rugged man. That was the last time she saw him. It took three years for the Italian government to declare him MIA. She was given his medals of honor, from King Victor Emmanuel (I still have them). After finally obtaining some closure regarding Ferdinand's death, my great-grandmother Christina packed up her three children and came to Buffalo, leaving everything behind. It has been my dream to return to Bagheria to see the land of my ancestors. I hope that this beautiful city is not destroyed due to the economic and humanitarian crisis in Europe.

My grandfather came to Cleveland, Ohio in 1921 with his brother, and his name was Francesco Scaduto. He was married and had a son and four daughters. One daughter was my mother. How lucky I am to come upon your detailed comment. I wonder if we are distantly related?
