Overpriced Nitrofurantoin - Clinical Pharmacist’s Tell What You Can Do

Dr. Kerry Yamada, Clinical Lead Pharmacist’s at University Health was asked by KCTV5, on what you can do if you need the Nitrofurantoin antibiotic. Nostrum Pharmaceuticals made a decision to raise the price of an antibiotic mixture called Nitrofurantoin from about $500 per bottle to more than $2,300.
Nitrofurantoin prevents and treats urinary tract infections including the kidneys, bladder or urethra. Brand names for Nitrofurantoin are Macrobid, Furadantin, and Macrodantin.
Dr. Yamada is one of the Clinical Lead Pharmacists in Internal Medicine as well as one of the Postgraduate Pharmacy Residency Program Coordinators at Truman Medical Centers.
