    Great explanation and incredibly helpful. was able to get the cooler off from the bottom and replace the gasket. Could not get to the side gasket since I could not get a good connection on the bolt above the sensor. Will plan to go back for this later. The cooler gasket was the main issue.

    • @WorldMechanics
      @WorldMechanics  Před 9 lety +1

      Alfred Abiodun white smoke most of the times on a Mazda CX-7 is a sign of a blown turbo. The turbo most likely will need to be rebuild or replaced. It could be something else. It is hard to tell without seeing it but we have replace two turbos so far because they were blown and the car was smoking like crazy.

    Thanks for the video you are a great person who is helping many people who can't afford this. My cx7 is leaking around the same area and is caked all over the plastic just like this one, however, Is it possible it could be only the gasket that goes to the block and not the O-ring, I like to know if there's a way to tell without taking off housing so I know which seals to order.

  • @amandafoster7941
    @amandafoster7941 Před 3 lety

    Torque on big 15mm bolt going thru the cooler into the oil filter housing is 25-29 ft/lbs., The 10mm bolts holding the housing to the engine block are torque: 21 ft/lbs, Get creative with extensions & sockets to get the torque wrench in there. You can get a torque wrench between the front lower crossmember and the lower bumper facia. Use ONLY 6 sided sockets..not 12 sided or you'll round off the bolt heads, especially on the 10 mm. I was able to do this repair WITHOUT draining coolant or removing cooler from hoses. I only removed the oil filter housing. Got my gasket from Rockauto (Dana Brand) & no leaks yet on initial start up & idle. Will update for long term leak test. Thanks for all the tips World Mechanics!!!! Great video!

    good video, very helpful. I do have one question, how often does the housing go bad. I took the car to a shop and was told I needed a cooler, housing, gasket ,valve cover gasket to the tune of $1100. I took the car and bought these parts from MAZDA for $230. looking at your vid the housing didn't look bad and you didn't replace it. So, how often does or would a housing go bad.

Can not find any pictures on line of how it goes as mine fell right off while driving. And i think the parts place I bought the part from gave me a right rear link while i need a left. I am trying to install it but do not have the space for it. Thats why i think its the wrong one it is going in the same.direction as the one on the right when i look at it. Are they the same link or different. Hope you can help

Eso afloja la banda serpentina y la sacas de la polea loca. Ocupas una llave larga o dos llaves para hacer palanca entre ellas.

    So i replaced the gasket and oil seal about 15 months ago. And it worked awesome. But I just went to a Jiffy Lube to have the oil changed (because it is almost as cheap to have them do it then myself), and l found that the oil is leaking again. It happened immediately after having the oil changed. Is it possible that they use high compression to push the new oil into the engine and caused the seal or gasket to fail? Have you ever run into this problem? should you ever use any type of sealant on these gaskets or seals as an added measure? Im assuming Not, but just asking.

      Firstly, all the quick oil change places actually destroy the engine, by using power tools to replace oil drain plugs, if they even remember to do that! Secondly, Mazda n3eeds to run SYNTHETIC OIL, such as the Phillups Petrolium, sold at Walmart, in the grey jugs, Super Tech 5w20, FIVE QUARTS for $15.98.

      You may have got the gasket for the newer style cooler. The cooler was redesigned and the new one has a just a rubber gasket whereas the original version had a rubber or silicone gasket inside a rigid plastic retainer. The new gasket will not work on the old model cooler. The new gasket is much cheaper, a couple dollars vs around $20 for the older style. (Old Q but answering in case it helps anyone else)

    Hey just wanted to get your opinion. I have a 2009 CX7 and I took it to firestone. They said the engine was knocking and I have an oil leak so they didn't feel comfortable doing the oil change. They said it was dry 100% and threw oil in there for me. They told me "We plugged the leak so it shouldn't leak right now, but it wont last". I take it to my friend right up the street because firestone said "We have no idea where its leaking from so we can't show you." (after they told me they plugged it) I pop the hood at my friends shop and they left the oil cap off so my engine and side panels were covered in oil. I took it back and they cleaned it the best they could.
    I didn't notice any knocking at all before I took it to them. Now I can definitely hear it. Do you have any tips on how to pinpoint the oil leak? I'm about to go out there and leave a white towel underneath my car to see if its leaking from there. I have NEVER had any oil spots on the ground.

    What would the torque specification be for the oil filter housing gasket???? Would anyone be able to help me????

    • @WorldMechanics
      @WorldMechanics  Před 8 lety

      +Alex Cerezo I could not find the torques specs anywhere. What we did, we used a 3/8 ratchet and one person holding the oil filter housing while the other one is getting it tight. You will start feeling the gasket sealing but pretty much when you cannot go more give it a little bit and that should be good. It is hard to explain it. I will do more research and see if I can find the torque specs tomorrow.

  • @stronglikebull2994
    @stronglikebull2994 Před 5 lety

    It's a defective part. It needs to be replaced with the updated Mazda oil cooler. The faulty one is Famoco or Ford Motor Company. You can purchase the Mazda oil cooler for around $150 on eBay direct from Japan. It will also come with a new gasket. This is the way to go otherwise you're going to keep replacing that o-ring

    • @jaxjaguarz
      @jaxjaguarz Před 5 lety

      $150-$200 to replace the part on a car with 100k+ miles (meaning the original gasket, and perhaps the aftermarket ones too, lasts around 100k miles). Or just spend $20 on the gasket and do it again at 200k miles, then again at 300k miles, etc. You would have to get to 1.1 million miles before you spend an equal amount to replacing the entire cooler. And the new cooler has a replaceable gasket too so who knows how long that one lasts (200k?). You can get a FelPro replacement gasket today from most parts stores for less than $20.. no waiting for ebay delivery.
      Paying for the updated version just doesn't make rational economical sense for the DIY'er. Now if you're planning to keep the car for another 500,000 miles and are paying someone to fix it, then yeah, maybe I would get the updated cooler and cross my fingers it would last that long or the ROI goes out the window there too. You should be able to find a mobile mechanic to replace this gasket for a Benjamin or so.
      In any case, I doubt most people are keeping the car long enough to have to perform this more than once.

    • @jaxjaguarz
      @jaxjaguarz Před 5 lety

      For the record, I have a 2006 Mazda 5 with over 120,000 miles and it's leaking a very tiny amount. Not enough to drip anything but last time I changed the oil I saw some black gunk buildup on the oil cooler and the filter housing so I am going to be replacing the gasket before it turns into a dripping problem. I switched to synthetic oil early on so that may have helped in allowing the gasket to last as long as it did, who knows. I don' expect I will still be owning this car at 240k (that would be like in what, year 2033?).
