This made me tear up. FINALLY a piece of pjo media where it is shown that Luke ACTUALLY was Percy's first friend at camp, that he ACTUALLY was a well-liked person for a good reason! In the movies you immediately get the feeling that something is off about him, while just listening to this guy's voice made me trust him with my life. And THAT is why the betrayal hurts. It IS supposed to hurt. I love this song.
@HannahBanana you're right, Grover was already his best friend, but when he first got to camp he also did find out that he was a satyr "hired" to keep an eye on him, and I wouldn't say he was really friends with Annabeth at that point yet? Idk I just always felt like during his first few interactions at camp Percy didn't really feel anyone was close to him until Luke offered some help and sympathy to him, but it's just my opinion of course💓
"I want my birthday cards and fishing trips! Child support and homework tips!" This part always gets me, because all Percy ever wanted was a sign that a father existed. His male "role-model" was Gabe... and Gabe was..., well, Gabe. He's held onto his mother all these years, cursing his father for not being there for them both. He wanted normal, father stuff, but always just had his mother say that his father couldn't be there, so he supressed his dreams and wishes. NOW he knows his father was out there, and was all-powerful and could have been there for him and his mother- all his years and expectations of his father are coming back to him, and he reconnects with his need for a 'sign'. I think this is one of the most powerful lines in the musical, seeing Percy figure out his anger IS allowed! That his father (spoiler, Poseidon) could've been there THE ENTIRE TIME. It's a show of his emotional turmoil, especially as after, Percy says he doesn't want to whimper or whine- he doesn't know how to feel, AND TBH I DON'T EITHER OUR POOR BAB
KopiKaat gabe was never his role model,, percy hated the shit out of gabe. sally only stayed with him so percy would attract less monsters because gabe is so human. percy had remembered his dad, he knew this when he met him
Yes, however, Gabe was typically the only male figure in Percy's life. I'm by no means defending him, and can sympathize with Sally and her struggle to protect Percy, but Percy had little to no memory of his father- he was far too young to remember much of anything at that point. Gabe was the only real male figure Percy had, and to learn his father could have been there the entire time, (and in Percy's eyes, thinking that he COULD have if he wanted to) it's a hard situation to digest, and truly think about- leaving Percy allowing himself to feel such overwhelming anger for the first time, not truly understanding how to feel- about Gabe, and his mom, or about Poseidon.
if anyone wants a harder cry: when Percy says "don't mean to whimper or whine" i imagine him taking several steps back because he thinks Chiron's gonna hit him for complaining
i honestly wish there was more intensity in the verses like in the "well i want my birthday cards and fishing trips, child support and homework tips!" part

When you see it live there’s a lot more emotion because here in the cast recording they just want their voices to sound nice but in the musical their acting and the way they sing it differently really makes a difference.
Sometimes I just get so emotional thinking about Chiron, he's been alive for centuries and mentored all these heroes through the tragedies that were they're lives and UGH the feELS It's probs so hard for him to keep going...but he does because he knows there are still scared kids out there who need him. Sophia Balough movie luke is terrible. i like this guy *i forgot his name tho*. my friend and i watched the first movie and we were throwing pillows at the wall like, “DIE LUKE” or “DIE MOVIE GROVER”! *dont kill me this grover and book grover is my favorite thing the movie just makes him so damn annoying and adds random storylines like the *i have to help someone to get my stupid goat horns* thing
Standby because I’m gonna say the things I liked about the movies: - All cast members (although I’m split on how Annabeth, Clarisse, and Grover are portrayed). They do try their best with the material they’ve been given. - The action scenes are cool. - The Lotus Casino from TLT and the taxi/Hermes/hippocampus from SOM. - The special effects are on point. - The scores are good. - There are some scenes and quotes that are book accurate. I’m not saying they’re good. I guess I’m just lenient with movies.

Somehow, the songs in this musical add even MORE characterization to Luke! It's so cool! I can't way to see it in May!
I think this really develops Percy's character. And adds to the plot, of him going on the quest because he loves his mother so much. Also, it pretty much foreshadows Luke's, yeah.
And in this moment, my crush for Luke came back to me...

Edit: Anyway, has anyone ever noticed how when Chiron gave Percy’s pen and said that his dad said to give it to him. Sooooooo, Chiron knew Percy’s dad was ( **SPOILER** ) Poseidon the entire time?
Maybe his dad didn’t reveal himself while telling him that just left it and told him that in the most generalized way possible as to not ruin the secret.
Hang on, I just noticed, Percy mentions fishing trips. I know that's a very stereotypical dad thing, but that seems like some really good, maybe unintentional foreshadowing that his father is the god of the seas.

Rip my poor cousin who finished the first book and the first thing she ranted to me about was Luke and what went down in the first book. She didn't see the twist coming and it legitimately broke her heart because Luke seems like such a great guy.
